AIBU to think nearly everyone has stopped wearing them?

At the weekend we visited a local tourist attráction, went swimming, went to the pub, went for a meal out, and went shopping. During this I saw no more than a handful of people wearing a mask?

In Scotland. People are still wearing them here - I’d say about 75% from what I saw at the weekend here

alltheapples · 28/02/2022 14:38

I should have said I am in England.

Many people wearing them here, apart from the staff in Sainsbury’s.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 28/02/2022 14:41

Loads of fuckers wearing them in my town. Grin I'm done with it all tbh but I do wear them when I feel under social pressure to wear them! Blush

Today will be the first pick up where we've been told we don't have to wear masks so I'll be interested to see who still wears them. (We stay outside and socially distance so I can't feel too embarrassed about not wearing them in this case.)

Hbh17 · 28/02/2022 14:45

There is no longer any legal obligation to wear them anywhere in England, so the only astonishing thing is that some people are still doing so! Happily, tho, the numbers of mask-wearers are dropping steadily.

megletthesecond · 28/02/2022 14:46

Lots of people not wearing them.
I'll be keeping mine for the foreseeable future. I haven't had covid yet and I'd like to try and keep it that way.

BabyTurtIe · 28/02/2022 14:47

You don’t have to wear them in England anymore so....

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/02/2022 14:47

Today we went to a shopping centre and some out of town furniture shops. I'd say less than 10% had them. Including staff on the floor.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 28/02/2022 14:48

TBF you can't really wear one while swimming, eating or drinking so some of those occasions in your OP are forgiven.

I'll wear one if I remember, but I often don't.

alltheapples · 28/02/2022 14:48

I know you do not have to wear them anymore in England. I was just struck by how 99% of people have stopped from my experience of this weekend.

OP posts:
ohhooh · 28/02/2022 14:50

I don't understand the confusion - the temporary rule about wearing them no longer applies, so of course the majority of people won't be wearing them 🤷🏻‍♀️

alltheapples · 28/02/2022 14:50

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea I used to see people wearing them going into the leisure centre and changing rooms.

Round where I am the majority of people haven’t been wearing them for a long time tbh

EvilPea · 28/02/2022 14:52

In my local supermarket the majority are. I went shopping to a high street yesterday. I think I was the only one

Ciaram55 · 28/02/2022 14:52

I can understand if people want to continue wearing them in the supermarket but I don't understand those that wear them outside in the fresh air.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/02/2022 14:54

No one near me really wears them. Handful at most. I don't wear one anymore

SquirmOfEels · 28/02/2022 14:55

Much less - I'd say under 10% on public transport - but a bit higher on the Tube (up to 30%) because IRS so filthy and unventilated.

Probably around the 10% mark in other indoor places too - which figures, when you think of the proportion of the vulnerable in the population.

Nearly everyone in mecidal settings - got a text from GP today reminding all patients that masks are still to be worn at the surgery

DappledThings · 28/02/2022 14:56

@alltheapples

I know you do not have to wear them anymore in England. I was just struck by how 99% of people have stopped from my experience of this weekend.
But why is this surprising? About 1% of people were them when they had a cold pre-covid. A return to 1% seems highly likely to happen quickly rather than a significant number of people still wearing them.

It is a week since they became optional in my office and I was amazed that about 80% were still wearing them. Reckon it will drop very quickly now though.

DoNotTouchTheWater · 28/02/2022 14:57

Some people are still wearing them here, most people aren’t. I’m over it tbh.

Shoxfordian · 28/02/2022 14:57

Why are you surprised when people don’t legally have to wear them anymore?

EthelTheAardvark · 28/02/2022 14:57

I'm wearing them, as are most people in our local shops.

SeaKingdom · 28/02/2022 14:59

I'm happy to wear them if required but have found over the last few days in particular the numbers have plummeted dramatically even in M and S, which is like the last bastion of mask wearing. I tend to wear a mask if the shopkeepers are.

CaptainHammer · 28/02/2022 14:59

Where I am in the south of England the majority are still wearing them in supermarkets. Smaller shops I’ve been in it’s around half
