AIBU to think nearly everyone has stopped wearing them?

At the weekend we visited a local tourist attráction, went swimming, went to the pub, went for a meal out, and went shopping. During this I saw no more than a handful of people wearing a mask?

Masks do work.
I am not wearing one though.

Funny how you are concerned out people not wearing masks and yet you were visiting various different places.

Where did OP say they were concerned?
mnnewbie111 · 28/02/2022 15:02

I just wear in the doctors. Love not having to wear it any more

itsneilthebaby · 28/02/2022 15:02

Hang on, are you complaining that other people aren't wearing masks, but you've just said you don't wear one either?

itsneilthebaby · 28/02/2022 15:03

Or are you just saying you're surprised that people have stopped wearing them?

nannybeach · 28/02/2022 15:03

Those who claim masks "don't work," won't mind the OR staff ditching their PPE then, save the NHS a fortune

Toottooot · 28/02/2022 15:04

@alltheapples

Masks do work. I am not wearing one though.
So why the shock at others not wearing them?
millymolls · 28/02/2022 15:05

Good!

Did you ever wear one?
alltheapples · 28/02/2022 15:10

Yes I did used to wear one.
I just thought more people would be wearing one. I am surprised it has went from most people to virtually no one so quickly.

I went into a shop the other day, and for the first time in ages I didn't put my mask on. It felt very weird. I think it's going to take me a while to stop wearing one now.

echt · 28/02/2022 15:13

@SexyLittleNosferatu

Is this one of those fake "I don't understand why people are/aren't doing x, y and z".

Masks aren't mandatory. A lot of people have finally realised how pointless they are. A few people still want to wear them to virtue signal. What is there left to understand?

Are doctors and nurses virtue signalling?

Are they wasting their time wearing masks?

alltheapples · 28/02/2022 15:14

How tiresome. No it is not fake.
I am just surprised how quickly it has changed and wondered if it was the same elsewhere.

We went by train to a city yesterday. The start of the journey was on a Transport for Wales train where they are still meant to be worn - although we are in England so most people don't bother although more do than on other trains. We later caught a London bound train on our return and there were a few people wearing them but interestingly there were almost all from the BAME community. We wore ours but were definitely in the minority.

GirlInACountrySong · 28/02/2022 15:18

Hardly anyone wearing them here, and those that are are half heartedly, with their nose out

GordenBennett · 28/02/2022 15:20

I'm still wearing mine, so are about 90% of people in the local supermarkets, the small independent businesses are still asking people to wear one
I really mind, we've got to start somewhere, each to their own I think. Hopefully it will balance out

gogohm · 28/02/2022 15:21

It's about 50/50 in the supermarket but haven't worn one in the pub for many months as it wasn't part of the plan b enhancements.

GordenBennett · 28/02/2022 15:21

*don't mind 🙄

Boood · 28/02/2022 15:22

I’m wearing them at the moment because I have to have a negative pcr when I go on holiday in a couple of weeks. I’m not risking missing my holiday just so I don’t look like a dick in tesco.

Hotcuppatea · 28/02/2022 15:24

I'm in London and I'd say about 20% of people I see in public wear them. I never wear one, but I don't care if others do. Each to their own.

Parker231 · 28/02/2022 15:24

Masks have worked. If not perhaps DH should get rid of his at work in the hospital

I’m still wearing my mask on the Tube and will continue to do so. In Waitrose at lunchtime - the majority were wearing a mask

gogohm · 28/02/2022 15:26

@nannybeach

In 2019 there was actually a study commissioned of the benefits of wearing the basic surgical masks in hospital settings, it was ongoing when the pandemic hit so obviously was halted/abandoned. I saw some preliminary results in early 2020 that said both masks and gloves provided no clinical benefit in non infectious disease situations. I trust medics to be wearing their ppe correctly too unlike the general public- today there were to older ladies in masks but noses showing
