Face Masks

AIBU to think nearly everyone has stopped wearing them?

At the weekend we visited a local tourist attráction, went swimming, went to the pub, went for a meal out, and went shopping. During this I saw no more than a handful of people wearing a mask?

on the bus in North London this morning going to work - Most people still had a mask

GirlInACountrySong · 28/02/2022 15:30

Yes the grubby masks worn over and over....incorrectly

pawpaws2022 · 28/02/2022 15:34

Still wearing FFP2 masks and will be for the foreseeable as trying to protect myself

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 28/02/2022 15:36

Not really being worn here (outer London). Except in London transport where I think you still have to.

I’ll wear one in shops etc because I think it’s best but the majority aren’t

Hotcuppatea · 28/02/2022 15:40

Masks no longer a condition of carriage on TFL. It changed last week.

ShanghaiDiva · 28/02/2022 15:42

I was in Waitrose yesterday and about 80/90% of people were wearing a mask. Independent shops are still requesting customers to wear a mask.

Nelliephant1 · 28/02/2022 15:43

It's still the norm in Scotland thankfully. My son is in England for work just now and said that they're rarer than hens teeth there.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/02/2022 15:45

See I see them being rarer than hen's teeth thankful. Not the other way round!
GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 28/02/2022 15:47

Is YABU for or against wearing facemasks? Not clear.

KatRee · 28/02/2022 15:50

I've had an egg collection for IVF this morning. I had to test negative for covid beforehand or it would have been cancelled and we would have lost the eggs and the thousands of pibes we've spent on this cycle

I've been semi-isolating and wearing a mask the last couple of weeks in the supermarket to try nd minimise the chances of a positive test as far as possible. I've seen quite a few articles about small studies suggesting mask wearing, particularly FFP2 does reduce the spread

There will be lots of people in many different situations where they really can't afford to catch covid. I wish people would stop labelling everything as 'virtue signalling'

BeeDavis · 28/02/2022 15:50

It’s not law anymore ffs.

nannybeach · 28/02/2022 15:51

Definitely worn correctly here. Was nursing over 40 years. Did barrier, reverse barrier, isolation. Came into contact with some pretty nasty stuff.Im in a Covid study,I do have PPF2 and proper surgical grade disposables. Home made with 3 layers fine weave cotton, believed to give 60% protection to wearer and contacts. While masks were mandatory, colds and flu went down vastly

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 28/02/2022 15:52

Other than the last week before they became mandatory again 🤦‍♀️ I've worn one every time I go out.
Today I didn't.
No one else was.
I expect we'll be back to wearing them again in about 7 days if last time is anything to go by. Shock

I don't mind wearing them, but I don't want to be the only one.

KatRee · 28/02/2022 15:52

But in answer to the question, yes, where I am the number of people wearing them has decreased a lot in the last 2-3 weeks I've noticed

MorningStarling · 28/02/2022 15:53

Probably under 10% of people in shops are still wearing them round here, and 0% of the people who have coughs.

I've carried on wearing them but increasingly feel the odd one out - at least people don't know it's me, though.

MayBMaybenot · 28/02/2022 15:54

In our supermarket this morning and about 60%-70% wearing masks ?(including me). I've been doing it for 2 years now so will be a hard habit to break!

TimBoothseyes · 28/02/2022 15:55

@nannybeach

Those who claim masks "don't work," won't mind the OR staff ditching their PPE then, save the NHS a fortune
Since the OR is a sterile environment, I don't think it's comparable to not wearing a mask in Tesco really is it? Unless your local branch requires you to "scrub in" to get a pint of milk and a loaf of bread.
OnceuponaRainbow18 · 28/02/2022 15:56

I wore mine today at work- in a secondary school, most teachers and staff did moving springs the building

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 28/02/2022 15:57

Moving around…!

saveforthat · 28/02/2022 15:59

They are still mandatory for patients in medical settings.

elisenbrunnen · 28/02/2022 16:00

I work in a supermarket, and was told yesterday by a customer that i/we should all be wearing masks.

I said that it was no longer mandatory, and she said she knew that, but her dad is 90 and in a care home and if she tests positive, she can't see him. She suggested that I/we should 'Be Kind' Hmm and wear them to protect her dad.

I smiled outwardly, and inwardly suggested that she stay the fuck at home if she is so concerned about it.

I'm never wearing a mask again, unless forced to.

Howareyouflower · 28/02/2022 16:00

Our "social" life is reduced mainly to hospital and doctors appointments, and my visits to the pharmacy and supermarket. We wear masks still, use hand gel, and I sanitise trolley handles. My husband is extremely clinically vulnerable, so things are more risky, not less, for us.
Since England has relaxed the rules, our local hospital has increased theirs, and we now have to show a negative Lateral flow test to security guards before we can enter the building. We were told they have 106 Covid patients in the hospital just now (only 6 of those are vaccinated).

BogRollBOGOF · 28/02/2022 16:02

Few people wearing masks in public wear a well-fitted, regulated, hygienic product.
Most people wearing them have gappy bits big enough to let a mouse through let alone any actual use at containing viral particles.

It's great being able to hear and lip-read more people again.

Wizzbangfizz · 28/02/2022 16:05

Hardly anyone wearing one and I noted when I was on the tube last week it was at best 50/50. Heartening to see.

Topseyt · 28/02/2022 16:05

The only place I now wear a mask is in medical settings such as GP or hospital appointments.

I’m very relieved that mask wearing dropped off so quickly. Masks are such shitty and ineffectual things.
