would your DS join up

Hypothetical but if you have a DS aged 16-25 would they join up in the event of the government requesting volunteers to go and fight in Ukraine. If they did would you try and stop them. I have hear stories about so many young men in Ukraine volunteering and it got me wondering what would young British men do?

I'm 34, if NATO is invaded and we're in full scale war, I'd go.

Moonface123 · 26/02/2022 08:57

Well it is so interesting to see so far on this thread no screaming feminists shouting about equality and how !ales have it so easy.
Absolute silence.
Why should it be that only males are conscripted ?

Moonface123 · 26/02/2022 08:58

Males

User7497521 · 26/02/2022 08:59

If they had wanted to surely they would have shown an interest in joining the forces.

MushroomCat · 26/02/2022 09:00

This scares me, my DS has autism but he would sign up. He's already said he would fight. I'm hoping they keep the disability rules if we're ever invaded and not just a free for all.

User7497521 · 26/02/2022 09:00

It would probably be18-50 anyway

musicalfrog · 26/02/2022 09:00

@Moonface123 I think it's been explained (perhaps in another thread) that it's still mostly women who are responsible for caring for children and the elderly and therefore indisposed for combat.

I'm sure many women would be willing to take up arms if circumstances allowed.

StScholastica · 26/02/2022 09:01

@SiobhanSharpe

Nope, I'd be sending DS to family in (neutral) Ireland. He has an Irish passport.
No surprises there then.

I was just about to comment on this!

I don't think we should he talking about sons and husbands - children and partners surely? Anyone could be called up if it gets to that point.

Mouldyfeet · 26/02/2022 09:02

You know women are in the armed forces too right?? Why only aim this at sons 🤷‍♀️

FuckThatBullshit · 26/02/2022 09:04

@Katya213

Judging by these snowflake comments on here, it's a good job Britain isn't at war. Sending your child back to Ireland? How cowardly!
Oh fuck off!!
MrMrsJones · 26/02/2022 09:04

Why are you being sexist

My daughter was in the Army for 8yrs, from 17yrs, in the REME.

Not just boys you know!!

And she is just outside the cut off for being returned if requested. But she would if the country needed her.

User7497521 · 26/02/2022 09:07

It's only males in Ukraine so that's probably why OP said males

User7497521 · 26/02/2022 09:12

The government would probably target the NEETs and those at crap universities

Hyenaormeercat · 26/02/2022 09:21

mumdiva yes, I also said that Ukraine is under direct attack, desperate people do desperate things..not something to worry about over here...and hopefully never will have to.
The government is not going to be asking for volunteers to fight in Ukraine at any point although the regular forces may do a longer term recruitment drive when they realise they need to keep large aggressive nations at bay...those would then be properly trained.

No, several people have said why not DS/DD.
yoyo1234 · 26/02/2022 09:34

I would hope not.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 26/02/2022 09:35

I reckon they’d be better training up a load of 14-21 year old gamer types as cyber security / cyber warfare specialists, remote drone operators etc

That way even people with disabilities or who wouldn’t physically be willing to fight ‘in the street’ so to speak would make an amazing contribution

Also when it was all over, very good skills gained

Broads93 · 26/02/2022 09:43

Our government has done absolutely nothing for the younger generations. We should not give our lives up for the elites, they wouldn't do it for us.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/02/2022 09:43

I have to ask why would my 28 year old Dd who has been shafted by student loans, can’t afford a house on a good wage, can’t get an NHS dental appointment, has been repeatedly termed a ‘snowflake’ by the press would even contemplate conscription🤷🏼‍♀️ No way he would. What exactly has the U.K. done for him?

Look on Reddit. Loads of subreddits about people definitely refusing to do conscription.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 26/02/2022 09:44

My ds 20 is on 5 days notice to go to Poland. Been in the army 2 years.
Have absolutely not been watching the news..

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/02/2022 09:45

He’s a ds not Dd! But Dd wouldn’t go either. Gen z are even more cynical about what the U.K. has done for them than Millennialls.

First of all, women are already part of the armed forces, it'd be both males and females. No sex would be exempt unless ofr medical reasons. Now take your entitled male ego somewhere else.
LowlandLucky · 26/02/2022 09:46

I have one Son, many relatives and so many friends in the Armed Forces, i am proud of them all.

Buzzinwithbez · 26/02/2022 09:57

I'm far better in a crisis than my 17 year old son.
