It's not WW3

To wish people would stop conflating the Ukrainian invasion with WW3.

It's shite and completely unacceptable and my thoughts are with thee innocent people affected but it is not a world war and isn't going to become one.

IABU - WW3 is here
IANBU - it's a localised war.

?????

Sirzy · 24/02/2022 13:15

I think it has the potential to become much bigger than just a localised war. Putin doesn’t seem to care what happens in persuit of what he wants and that is worrying.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 13:15

you have a crystal ball then?

AlistairCamel · 24/02/2022 13:17

It’s a bit like when people said that Covid wasn’t going to lead to a global pandemic…you just don’t know.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 24/02/2022 13:18

YANBU it isn't WW3, and it won't be.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 24/02/2022 13:18

We have a bit more to go on with this though.
LemonViolet · 24/02/2022 13:18

There is a lot of middle ground between “localised war” (which this isn’t; this is a major world power saying fuck you and your democracy and your diplomacy, to the rest of the world) and “WW3” (which this isn’t; yet ; but the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand wasn’t WW1 on the day it happened, either, and we don’t have a crystal ball).

So I say YABU at this stage for being so dismissive of people sharing their fears in a public forum, on a day when such major news is breaking.

Beees · 24/02/2022 13:19

@TellMeMoreHellebore

you have a crystal ball then?
My sentiments entirely. Are you privy to some knowledge the rest of us don't possess?

You absolutely cannot know that this won't become a global issue and impact more than just those in Ukraine and Russia.

What an utterly daft thing to profess and fixate in given the events currently unfolding.

SantaHat · 24/02/2022 13:19

Some people with some impressive psychic abilities here.
🙄

GnomeyGnome · 24/02/2022 13:19

You don't know how things are going to escalate. There's no need for hysteria but the prospect of a World War is not some far fetched idea anymore. Let's all hope it doesn't come to that.

Wandda · 24/02/2022 13:19

Nobody is saying it is a world war. The worry is that if Putin continues his invasion into a NATO country (and Ukraine is surrounded by them) we, and many other countries, will be automatically pull into war.

battenburgHatday · 24/02/2022 13:20

Nobody knows if it will be ww3 or not

Kassle · 24/02/2022 13:20

IMO people are being sneery and downplaying this because they are scared and it helps them to sneer at others and pretend everything will be fine.

A bit like they did with covid at first.

Sirzy · 24/02/2022 13:21

And if the risk is underplayed then that actually feeds right into Putins hands. Nations need to be realistic about the potential risks

BearOfEasttown · 24/02/2022 13:21
Hmm
MissyB1 · 24/02/2022 13:21

Stupid thread.

BearOfEasttown · 24/02/2022 13:21

Not true

People on social media and these forums are exactly calling it WW3.

There is no way Putin will invade a NATO member - Moscow would be flattened in hours.

He's a madman with nuclear weapons.

This could quite quickly escalate into a world war and you're wholly naive if you think otherwise.

This.
FrownedUpon · 24/02/2022 13:25

Stupid thread. There is no way of knowing how this will pan out. It certainly isn’t just a localised war and by stating that, you sound really ignorant.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 13:26

FFs everyone....get Boris on the phone, @TheRealityCheque has it!!
she knows whats going to happen, has predicted it ALL.....whilst we are at it lets get NATO in on the act too....

DazedandConcerned · 24/02/2022 13:32

It’s horrible and my heart is with the people of Ukraine. But I doubt this will expand unless Putin attacks a NATO member. Then article 5 kicks in and we defend them. It’s war. Right now I suspect the UK will hand wring and sanction Russia. We’ll probably send more arms to the Ukraine who won’t go down without a fight.

But it’s a bit like Iraq. The USA and UK invaded and those who didn’t like it had to lump it. I hope to see some form of deterrent from Putin going forward like deployment into NATO members in Eastern Europe but not even sure we’ll see that.

Wonder what Biden will do…

FrenchBoule · 24/02/2022 13:34

Hitler invaded only Poland to start with.

Ukraine first, then who? Latvia? Lithuania? Poland?

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 13:36

@FrenchBoule

Ukraine first, then who? Latvia? Lithuania? Poland?

and those are NATO countries....so thats it if he does

but i think he will, i think this because it seems to be ukraine wanting to join nato thats got his back up.

he has said already that if they try to stop him it will be consequences not seen before.....chilling
