To ask what you wear to go to sleep?

Ok, I know this might be an odd question but I have wondered this for a long time and I’ve finally decided to ask.

I am 39 and for my whole adult life my bedroom “attire” has been the very attractive combo of over sized men’s t-shirt and pants 😬😳 Ever since I was a teenager, every night, come rain or shine, heatwaves and snow storms this is what I wear when it comes time to close my eyes and actually sleep! I am very happy with my outfit of choice and won’t be changing it but I do realise that perhaps it is more of a “young persons” sleep style. I can’t imagine that I will be wearing the same when I’m 80 BUT I don’t feel comfortable in anything else so have no idea what I would wear!!!

So ladies (if you don’t mind sharing) what is your sleep suit comprised of, and if you are feeling really brave what age are you? Am I still living my best teenage life in my dreams (literally) or am I completely normal and all the adverts for silky, fleecy, penguin covered items are fake news for those of us —nearly— in our 40’s

Linen blend shirts from H&M (I have the boxy shorter shape and the long night shirt ones in a few colours) and either the matching shorts or topped bottoms. Worth the investment as they last for years and lovely natural cool fabric . I like to iron them before wearing. I take more pride in my bed clothes than I do in going out clothes 😆
I can't sleep in knickers or with a bare bottom either....

catfunk · 20/02/2022 22:53

*cropped bottoms ffs

ButtockUp · 20/02/2022 22:56

M&S mid calf oversized jersey nightie.
Don't like bed clothes closely fitting.

Thatsplentyjack · 20/02/2022 22:57

Very short shorts and a vest top, but I actually really like the sound of an oversized t-shirt for bed. Something I've never thought to buy but I might just have to try that. I need shorts though, can't wear pants the knicker line drives me mad. Even womens "boxers" are too high on the arse cheeks these days. Imaybe ill get mens boxers.

oviraptor21 · 20/02/2022 22:58

I wear what seems to be called a chemise or a cami night dress. Usually in satin/silk, or sometimes a soft cotton jersey.

HollysBush · 20/02/2022 22:59

Cotton Pjs, dressing gown and socks in winter. Nightie and pants if really hot in summer.

DragonMamma · 20/02/2022 22:59

Usually a cheap stretchy vest and knickers or a soft cotton bra and the same. Very rarely I’ll wear a t shirt or similar but it has to be cold.

I actually can’t believe I used to wear full pyjamas as a young teen- I’d boil with DH in the bed (plus the dogs!).

Kazplus2 · 20/02/2022 22:59

Pants! That's it. 😁

Bumpsadaisie · 20/02/2022 22:59

Usually nothing at all as I'm like a thermonuclear power plant.

But tonight I've got t shirt and pants on till it warms up a bit 🥶

UnsureAndUnsteady · 20/02/2022 23:01

@catfunk I love the sound of those shirts although I’m not sure I could iron the items I sleep in! First I would have to find the iron…🤣

@ButtockUp I can’t stand close fitting either but jersey material is too warm for me. Otherwise that would sound perfect.

@Thatsplentyjack I have been known to steal DH boxers and they are the BEST for a good nights sleep! Now I’m wondering why I don’t do it more often.

A slip nightie...I think they're sometimes called a chemise. I wear them whatever the weather. I detest wearing pjs in bed.

DragonMamma · 20/02/2022 23:01

Actually, my mum bought me this and it’s great for winter evenings - it’s really soft!

FloBot7 · 20/02/2022 23:02

Usually just my knickers. When it's cold, I'll wear pyjama bottoms too.

Justgorgeous · 20/02/2022 23:02

Pants !

honeylulu · 20/02/2022 23:02

I wear a cotton based slip nightie. I like to have my armpits and nethers unrestricted or I feel bundled up and sweaty. It doesn't actually have much purpose except that if our youngest wakes me in the night because she needs the toilet I can just jump up and be covered. Before kids I slept naked. I only wear pyjamas if it's very cold.

I'm 47.

Workyticket · 20/02/2022 23:03

Just my knickers (proper arse covering pants)

I had to wear jarmies when in hospital with ds for a couple of weeks and was so uncomfortable

I shared a bed with a pal on a weekend away and wore jarmie bottoms and a vest. My boob popped out of the vest which was embarrassing Blush

SweetPotatoDumpling · 20/02/2022 23:03

I can't bear anything on or near my legs in bed, so usually the top from whatever PJ set I've been wearing that evening (I always change into PJs when I get home from work, to be comfy 🥰). The bottoms get whipped off and flung on the floor when I get into bed 👍

BlueFlavour · 20/02/2022 23:03

Nothing. It all annoys me Grin. I have got an electric blanket though. Best thing ever.

UnsureAndUnsteady · 20/02/2022 23:04

@DragonMamma that looks lovely and a good mix between grown up and comfy 🥰 but I wouldn’t cope with the fabrics on my arms while sleeping.

BlueFlavour · 20/02/2022 23:04

I’m 53.

Titsywoo · 20/02/2022 23:05

Nothing. Good to give everything a good airing Grin plus I get hot and annoyed by clothing when sleeping. Noone in my house wears anything in bed.

SmallChange11 · 20/02/2022 23:05

I have a variety of well worn tatty vest tops which I wear all year round, no undies but I do sometimes wear socks if v cold.

Thatsplentyjack · 20/02/2022 23:05

I'm in desperate need of ne pjs. I've had some of them since I moved out of my parents house...12 years ago! 🤣. I think maybe a trip to primark for mens big tshirts and boxers is in order tomorrow.

UnsureAndUnsteady · 20/02/2022 23:05

@Workyticket that made me laugh out loud! I hope it was a close friend! 🤣🤣

Nothing, I love being free of clothing as it annoys me.
