To ask what you wear to go to sleep?

Ok, I know this might be an odd question but I have wondered this for a long time and I’ve finally decided to ask.

I am 39 and for my whole adult life my bedroom “attire” has been the very attractive combo of over sized men’s t-shirt and pants 😬😳 Ever since I was a teenager, every night, come rain or shine, heatwaves and snow storms this is what I wear when it comes time to close my eyes and actually sleep! I am very happy with my outfit of choice and won’t be changing it but I do realise that perhaps it is more of a “young persons” sleep style. I can’t imagine that I will be wearing the same when I’m 80 BUT I don’t feel comfortable in anything else so have no idea what I would wear!!!

So ladies (if you don’t mind sharing) what is your sleep suit comprised of, and if you are feeling really brave what age are you? Am I still living my best teenage life in my dreams (literally) or am I completely normal and all the adverts for silky, fleecy, penguin covered items are fake news for those of us —nearly— in our 40’s

Oh and I'm 43

SocksAndTheCity · 20/02/2022 23:06

I wear either soft cotton/cotton jersey pyjamas (usually with a t-shirt or vest rather than a button up top) or a long nightie; M&S often have nice ones.

If it's very cold in winter I'll wear an old t-shirt or even a thin cotton sweater over the top and I have a nice thin white cotton nightie and a shorts set for the handful of hot nights in summer Smile

SocksAndTheCity · 20/02/2022 23:06

Sorry, I'm 49!

Marmelace · 20/02/2022 23:07

@BlueFlavour

I’m 53.
52, and same as you, minus the elec blanket.
Redshoeblueshoe · 20/02/2022 23:07

I am old enough to be your mother, so last night I wore my Harry Potter PJ's. But I bought a white sundress in the sale at Primark which is so comfortable. I'm intending to embroider it.

SilverOtter · 20/02/2022 23:08

PJs, which have to have short sleeves (but not a vest top) and long legs. And they have to be nice soft fabric.

DarkChocolateMint · 20/02/2022 23:08

Very often.....naked Blush window open 365 days a year!!! Cant stand being too hot

I love PJs too!!!! Most often would at least take the bottoms off to sleep if im not totally in th scud x

VestaTilley · 20/02/2022 23:09

Pyjamas from M&S, John Lewis or similar - I’ve even got a pair of blue and white striped ones that look like something from the old toothpaste advert.

I even got DH wearing old fashioned stripy ones, it’s great, makes him look like a teddy.

linmanuel · 20/02/2022 23:10

@ButtockUp

M&S mid calf oversized jersey nightie. Don't like bed clothes closely fitting.
What are the sleeves like? I need long sleeves as bed invaders steal the duvet
Pascha · 20/02/2022 23:10

Nothing for years until Ds1 started climbing into bed with us. Now it's just pants and a vest lies over the end of the bed for nighttime excursions and early mornings.

Seren85 · 20/02/2022 23:11

I'm the adult in Dumbo/Pooh Bear/Eeyore pj sets. Usually fleecy. In summer I wear the pants and a vest top. I also have several tartan sets. I'm 36.

Theredtoyphone · 20/02/2022 23:11

Big pants only. I hate wearing anything on my top half in particular

JenniferWooley · 20/02/2022 23:11

[quote DragonMamma]Actually, my mum bought me this and it’s great for winter evenings - it’s really soft!

I have this & it's definitely comfy & cosy on the colder nights.

Generally though I wear an oversized t-shirt & pants/boxers combo.

I did used to love wearing my grans old lady nightdresses though so will probably end up with those when I'm 80 & need something more grown up & ladylike 👵🏻

BearOfEasttown · 20/02/2022 23:11

One of these. Smile

BearOfEasttown · 20/02/2022 23:13

Mid 50s here.

Eightiesfan · 20/02/2022 23:13

After my shower in the evening I always wear a pair of cotton PJs to loll around before I go to bed. I then put on a chemise nightdress to sleep in.

Lifeslooser · 20/02/2022 23:15

Naked, hate clothes at night plus I’m sleeping with another adult next to me and the body heat!!

Skybubble · 20/02/2022 23:16

I lounge around before bed in cotton pjs but take them of when I get in bed because I don't like to feel restricted or hot. The room also has to be cold.

Isababybel · 20/02/2022 23:16

I genuinely cant sleep in anything unless it doesn't have side seams, as the seams on the side im laying on painfully dig in to my hips/ribs!! I can only buy and wear certain types of seamless knickers. I don't know why i have this issue at all Confused its like a type of hypersensitivity.

Discwriter · 20/02/2022 23:17

35 and I wear pajama sets. M&S button downs with knickers. I have a bath/shower everynight and look forward to my full outfit change.

Chishnfips · 20/02/2022 23:19

Tshirt and shorts

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/02/2022 23:19

I sleep naked. I'm 51. Haven't worn anything in bed for a good 25 years unless it was for "mutual entertainment" Wink or I'm away from home in a hotel etc and I don't want to be stark bollock naked when the fire alarm goes off at 3am (I'm thinking of you Sofitel Philadelphia grr!) Or staying at friends' homes I don't sleep naked.

When I do wear something, I have a much bigger selection than is necessary for someone who rarely wears anything to bed of silk PJs / silk vest & shorts sets / silk strappy nighties / silk nightshirts. I like what I'm wearing to feel nice against my skin hence the silk.

notacooldad · 20/02/2022 23:19

My lovely pjs from Asda!!

For seamless knickers I highly rate the company My Oddballs. Very comfy and flattering compared to the M&S ones I used to live in.
EezyOozy · 20/02/2022 23:20

I live in a freezing house and I really feel the cold. Tonight I have in thermal leggings, socks, a vest, a PJ top and two jumpers. Under a 13.5 tog duvet AND a bedspread! I still feel a bit cold.
