To ask what you wear to go to sleep?

Ok, I know this might be an odd question but I have wondered this for a long time and I’ve finally decided to ask.

I am 39 and for my whole adult life my bedroom “attire” has been the very attractive combo of over sized men’s t-shirt and pants 😬😳 Ever since I was a teenager, every night, come rain or shine, heatwaves and snow storms this is what I wear when it comes time to close my eyes and actually sleep! I am very happy with my outfit of choice and won’t be changing it but I do realise that perhaps it is more of a “young persons” sleep style. I can’t imagine that I will be wearing the same when I’m 80 BUT I don’t feel comfortable in anything else so have no idea what I would wear!!!

So ladies (if you don’t mind sharing) what is your sleep suit comprised of, and if you are feeling really brave what age are you? Am I still living my best teenage life in my dreams (literally) or am I completely normal and all the adverts for silky, fleecy, penguin covered items are fake news for those of us —nearly— in our 40’s

Some combination of a (short) nightshirt or pyjama top, and shorts - men’s boxers are REALLY comfy for this, though for me they have to be soft jersey & without a big waistband. I think most of the ones I currently have are from Primark. I don’t like my legs to be covered most of the time, even in the winter, though long sleeves are fine & even necessary due to husband’s duvet stealing my tendency to have my arms up around my head while sleeping. In the summer, T-shirt & shorts or a light nightdress. I never wear pants in bed aside from when I have my period, can’t understand how so many people wear them!!

EezyOozy · 20/02/2022 23:21

I always wear leggings type bottoms (thermal ones!) as I cannot be doing with loose PJs getting all twisted up.

MeAndHimAndHer · 20/02/2022 23:22

Nothing. Can’t bear any clothes on in bed. But it’s now getting to where I need to think about wearing pants as 7yo comes into our bed a lot and I don’t want her to be an adult with horrific flashbacks of butt naked mum going for a wee! And she like cuddles, and she too sleeps in the buff (her choice) which is beginning to feel a bit tooo naked.

Ragwort · 20/02/2022 23:23

Cotton Pyjama bottoms and a strappy t shirt top ... can't imagine wearing knickers to bed Grin.

Hairyfriend · 20/02/2022 23:24

In Winter I sleep topless with tracksuit or PJ bottoms and socks. In summer, I wear I nightie which I take off to sleep.

Polomints · 20/02/2022 23:25

Aquafresh advert style button up pyjamas!

frostedfruit · 20/02/2022 23:26

Big tshirt / big knickers too!

I've tried other things - nothing is as comfy

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/02/2022 23:28

PJ's. Bottoms have to be cuffed. And cosy socks. T shirt and trouser ones tonight. Sometimes shorts ones or long sleeved. Just depends on weather.

Salamander91 · 20/02/2022 23:28

Massive belly warmer knickers, crop top style bra and a baggy tshirt. If it's cold I might wear pj bottoms and if it's hot I might not wear the tshirt.

UnsureAndUnsteady · 20/02/2022 23:31

@DarkChocolateMint I also have to have the window open! I need fresh air to sleep and find hotel rooms really stuffy

Winday · 20/02/2022 23:31

I go for PJs. Stetchy legging type, with short sleeved t shirt tops. I can't sleep naked, I've tried! I get the fear of intruders or a fire breaking out and me running outside with my arse on display.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 20/02/2022 23:32

I’m 40 and have worn a t-shirt (with or without pyjama bottoms depending on the weather) to bed since I was a teenager.

heyitsthistle · 20/02/2022 23:34

I wear a fitted but not tight t-shirt. If it's cold it'll have long sleeves. I'll also wear pants, but again, if it's cold I might wear DH's jogging bottoms.

Lampface · 20/02/2022 23:38

My Gran still wears a big men's tshirt and pants and she is 80. Do what you want OP!

I wear nothing. Even when it's freezing Grin

bellsbuss · 20/02/2022 23:38

Nothing but I keep a dressing gown next to the bed at night just incase.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 20/02/2022 23:41

Nothing. I hate the feel of the seam on pj bottoms. Ok to lounge in but not sleep in. Hate the feeling of feeling trapped when I'm in bed. I toss and turn a lot so if I wear them I usually end up with the legs rolled round my knees and the top part all twisted round. Hate shorts, can't sleep in a nighty never have being able to cos again after all the tossing and turning it's usually either half way over my head or I'm nigh on strangling myself. If I go away and share a room with someone (not DP) I'm mega uncomfortable all night. At best and only if it's mega freezing outside a pair of leggings are ok but that's about it.

AllLopsided · 20/02/2022 23:42

I'm in my 50s - in winter, a long sleeved plain cotton jersey nightshirt that comes to just below my knees. In spring and autumn, the same with short sleeves, and in summer a shorter strappy one (cami style). Outside temp at night can be down to -15 in winter and in the mid-20s in summer so I need a variety! When I was younger and lived in the U.K., nothing or a t-shirt that covered my bum if anyone but DH was around.

FangsForTheMemory · 20/02/2022 23:42

M&S pure cotton nightdresses. They must be loose or stretchy. I cannot bear the constriction of pjs.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 20/02/2022 23:43

I’m late 30’s and have just decided that I’m a bit too old for my current attire of fleecy penguin pyjamas and that I need something a little more attractive. I’m currently breastfeeding a baby that doesn’t like to sleep in the cot so spend a great deal of time sat up with baby on my chest. So right now anything with sleeves is a winner with bonus points for easy boob access.
I do like the traditional pj style, think fat face type. I’ve got some red tartan Christmas ones that are really comfortable. Even in summer I like my shoulders covered so no sexy chemise for me

Girlmumdogmumboymum · 20/02/2022 23:43

31 here!
Always worn proper pj's, though I've stopped wearing shorts the past few years! The dog always jymps into bed in thd coldest hours and I have woken up having lost my duvet courtesy of the dog freezing!

If I'm cold, it's the Pj's, plus nightgown, plus bed socks. I have a tendency to be freezing when everyone else is comfortable, and it's heating as high as it goes or I need to layer up so everyone else in the house isn't sweltering

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/02/2022 23:45

Great, big t shirts that my husband grew out of donkey’s years ago. They’re really comfortable, 100% cotton and I expect at least another 10 years out of them. Knickers, too (mine Grin)

LegArmpits · 20/02/2022 23:45

Nothing, ever. If I ever fall asleep in a tshirt or (worse) socks, I wake up and rip it off in a temper 😂👀

MagnoliaXYZ · 20/02/2022 23:48

Usually nothing. Knickers when I'm on my period. I have a drawer full of pyjamas for staying at other people's/hotels/when I have guests staying over (though often forget to pack them when I go away, hence the drawer full!).

Bussinbussin · 20/02/2022 23:48

I need reasonably fitted clothes, hate them flapping about and getting twisted up when I move!

Normally it's cotton knickers and an old soft tshirt that's retired from everyday use. Thermal leggings and fluffy socks if it's freezing.

I do have a few silk and satin slips that come out if I want to impress my partner Grin

baggies · 20/02/2022 23:49

Very loose knee length jersey nightie, no pants.
