to be so sick to death of being embarrassed by Boris Johnson

Just watching him speak at the Munich conference now. Having spent the week following the Russia/Ukraine situation, and having heard numerous world leaders speak, including Joe Biden last night, I can't help but wince at the contrast. Johnson's speech is typical; peppered with clever-clever public schoolboy humour, facile metaphors and smirking, bombastic jingoistic rhetoric. He looks and sounds like an utter mess. This is who we are now, as far as the rest of the world is concerned. My toes are fucking curling Sad Angry

I avoid listening too him.

I don't like Boris Johnson, but there could be worse. Fancy Priti Patel or Jacob Rees-Mogg as prime ministers?

Let’s race to the bottom shall we? How about thinking that we should aim for someone good. What a state of affairs when it really is 'best of a bad lot'.
Pedalpushers · 19/02/2022 12:03

As much as I loathe PP and JRM and think they are sociopaths, they at least know how to behave in public and conduct themselves with a level of dignity.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 19/02/2022 12:10

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 19/02/2022 12:11

Thank goodness we still have the Queen.

There could be better as well.
TooBigForMyBoots · 19/02/2022 12:18

YANBU @sadpapercourtesan. Our Prime minister is seen as an irresponsible buffoon and liar abroad. The people of the UK look like idiots for wanting him and voting for him in.Sad

SirChenjins · 19/02/2022 12:22

The people of England - we certainly didn’t want or vote for him here!

He’s an absolute disgrace and when the only argument put forward for keeping him is that there’s no-one better than you have to assume that those people either think he’s actually ok but know that admitting that makes them look as ridiculous as him, or that we really are fucked.

Sundancerintherain · 19/02/2022 12:22

@daimbarsatemydogsbone exactly!

It's not either or, there are other options and I'd rather take my chance on either of them ending up with the leadership (which they won't because neither is likeable/electable enough as PM) than Boris Fucking Johnson clinging on for another couple of years. As a PP said, at least they know how to conduct themselves in public.

Thank goodness we still have the Queen.

Don't jinx her.

He is a worthless cunt

He lacks the requisite warmth and depth.

IpanemaPeaHen · 19/02/2022 12:25

I read a piece that described him as having ruined the UK’s international reputation for a generation. I think that’s where we’re at.

Comedycook · 19/02/2022 12:26

I tell you something though, he makes all the previous prime ministers we've had look absolutely amazing doesn't he?! I long for the good old days of Brown, Cameron and May!

Hospedia · 19/02/2022 12:28

Could you imagine Johnson wibbling his way through a period of national mourning and then a state funeral followed by a coronation? Standing at the Abbey doors shaking the hands of world leaders muttering "thanks for coming... vaccine programme... world beating ... fastest growth in the G7... yes yes" like a broken record while secretly breaking all the national mourning protocols and - to use his own phrase - spaffing money up the wall on as much pomp and circumstance as possible so all the flag-shaggers can get off on a bit of Rule Brittania while the country continues to crumble around them.

Nightmare.

Arf, you're right. What an unsettling thought. Even Theresa May - at least she was a fucking adult. Not a bumptious overgrown toddler with no idea how to conduct himself in civilised company.

PrawnDrench · 19/02/2022 12:29

His behaviour as the Mayor of London was also toe curling at best. It was downright infuriating, at worst.

I cannot fathom how this man, whose antics have time and time again embarrassed the whole country, continues to be Prime Minister. Someone should compile a video of all those lies and mistruths. He would have been perfect as a clown, he clearly missed his calling.

I just wish there was a better alternative. Quite frankly, he is the “best” of a bad bunch.

Unfortunately this is true. If we get rid of that Johnson clown, who will we get in replacement? There's not much left at the bottom of the barrel to scrape.
Hospedia · 19/02/2022 12:34

Does the House resume sitting this Monday? I'd expect the next leaked scandal sometime tomorrow evening in time for the morning papers and for them returning from recess.

SnowD · 19/02/2022 13:05

I just refuse to feel embarrassed by someone i didn't vote for. I don't base my identity on my nationality. I'm not saying anyone else does, I'm just saying why should I feel embarrassed by where I happened to be born which none of us have any control over, whether it's in a respected or hated country. The people who voted for him are the ones who should be embarrassed but I bet they don't care. It's usually the wrong people feeling embarrassed. It's not an achievement to be born in a respected country or a failure to be born in a shit country. It's just an accident of birth. I've never been a "proud to be british" type anyway so don't feel corresponding shame either.

SnowD · 19/02/2022 13:07

Oh and 57% of us didn't vote for him. We just have a crap voting system. I support a party who would change it

At least they both look like they shower and groom themselves before representing us in a global forum. (That's the best I can come up with for either but it's still one-up on Boris)
AdamRyan · 19/02/2022 13:11

Yeah, I'm fed up too. The situation in Ukraine is serious and worrying, its a shame we are largely irrelevant (having left the EU so with little influence) and when UK government does intervene, they are total muppets (also looking at Liz Truss talking over the interpreter).
I'm so embarassed to be British.

AdamRyan · 19/02/2022 13:12

Well English specifically. I think the other UK nations can be comforted that at least they didn't choose this bunch of clowns the English have foisted on them

EatSleepRantRepeat · 19/02/2022 13:12

I didn't mind Theresa May out of the Tories on offer at the time @sadpapercourtesan - she took on the job at a time when few others wanted it, knowing it was a poisoned chalice but the others would completely fuck it up. Even her deal was better than what we got under Boris but the male egos thought they could do one better. Typical male politicians - let a woman do the backbreaking negotiations then shaft them when it's 99% done. Labour are no better - Mo Mohlam did the vast majority of work on NI but got very little credit compared to the men in charge.
