to be so sick to death of being embarrassed by Boris Johnson

Just watching him speak at the Munich conference now. Having spent the week following the Russia/Ukraine situation, and having heard numerous world leaders speak, including Joe Biden last night, I can't help but wince at the contrast. Johnson's speech is typical; peppered with clever-clever public schoolboy humour, facile metaphors and smirking, bombastic jingoistic rhetoric. He looks and sounds like an utter mess. This is who we are now, as far as the rest of the world is concerned. My toes are fucking curling Sad Angry

'My European family always speak of how embarrassing he is to the UK as in on the world stage.'

Well my European family and friends say the opposite. Suppose it depends who we mix with? Italy require face covers outdoors I believe. Imagine trying to make us do that here, they'd have no chance. It was bad enough in the middle of the pandemic.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 19/02/2022 16:34

@FatFredsFriedEgg still isn't the first shot though

Using the same logic, sending tanks over the Ukraine border wouldn't be 'firing the first shot' if the Ukrainians reacted to it..

It would be a deliberate military incursion with no possibility of an excuse of 'straying over the border'. The Clown has announced it in advance.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 19/02/2022 16:35

Well my European family and friends say the opposite

Of course they do.

Cherryblossoms85 · 19/02/2022 16:36

Yvette Cooper for PM.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 19/02/2022 16:40

I was just reading the comments on this article www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/boris-johnson-photoshoot-raf-plane-b2018309.html

...he's not the funny, pie in face, kind of clown, more like the Stephen King, Pennywise, kind.

DowningStreetParty · 19/02/2022 16:40

If Boris Johnson had any integrity he’d have resigned ages ago. I’m horrified that we still have so long to go to the next general election. And that Labour are not scoring massively despite the open goal they have. It is really depressing.

Mischance · 19/02/2022 16:42

There are I believe a number of Tory MPs who are also deeply embarrassed by BJ but are playing their cards close to their chests at present, awaiting their chance to pounce when it looks as though a coup might be successful. We can only hope so.

longwayoff · 19/02/2022 16:49

My MP is embarrassed by Boris. My Tory MP.

SpaceyCake · 19/02/2022 16:51

@VladmirsPoutine

My European family always speak of how embarrassing he is to the UK as in on the world stage. A lot of the UK's gravitas has all bad disappeared over recent years with brexit, covid responses etc. We are absolutely seen as a joke nowadays.
Yep. My European friends and family find him really cringey and they often ask me for the latest "Boris gossip" so they can have a good old laugh. I think they're shocked that someone like him can actually be a world leader. It is bonkers.

I find him absolutely insufferable and embarrassing.

Yvette Cooper for PM.
100% this.

When you look at the current quality of other UK politicians she really is in a different league (not that it is a particularly high hurdle these days).

I struggle to understand why she isn't more high profile, my only hope that this is of her own choosing.

Sloth66 · 19/02/2022 17:34

I didn’t vote for him, I’d seen his woeful performance as London Mayor, so no surprises. I think he’s an embarrassment and disgraces the country. The bigger question to ask is how we ended up with a system that delivered someone like him, to the job.

TheHateIsNotGood · 19/02/2022 17:49

Until more perfect/uncringeworthy people like me not me stand for political office then we get what we're given.

Are we such a total bunch of back seat drivers and sideline experts that all we can muster is a bunch of critique from our sofas without offering ourselves to the scrutiny and criticism involved by just getting 'involved'?

I wouldn't do it myself, please step forward anyone here would....

TheHateIsNotGood · 19/02/2022 17:50

who would....

Vanellopee · 19/02/2022 17:55

Notwithstanding his embarrassing incompetence, he’s the only prime minister, in my lifetime, that I don’t believe even cares what is best for the country.

Not really the point is it.

He stepped forward. He's not up to the job he's doing. He's lied to parliament and the country.

He won't step down.

He wanted the job - he should at least have attempted to do it properly!

Grilledaubergines · 19/02/2022 18:16

He’s a cock.

I’m English, didn’t vote for him.

And I feel no embarrassment for him, I’m not his mother!

Mumoblue · 19/02/2022 18:19

He’s a hateful prick pretending to be a fumbling idiot and he looks like cottage cheese. The sooner we’re rid, the better.

I’d almost say it’s better because then more people will see that he’s a disgrace, but anyone who is still on board the Bojo the clown train is wearing logic-proof armour.

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/02/2022 18:27

Do you not think that it says more about what most people thought of the alternative that they went with BJ.

What what wrong with Jeremy Hunt? Not that I'm a fan, but at least he was a grown up. I watched the Conservative leadership race, JH gave proper answers BJ blustered, and blew.

I wouldn’t put myself forward because I have sufficient self awareness to know that I wouldn’t be able to do the job well. If only that clown had a similar level of self awareness we wouldn’t have the most incompetent PM in living memory at a time when we needed far better.
CorrBlimeyGG · 19/02/2022 18:37

Hunt wouldn't have won over the neanderthal red wall Brexit supporters.

JimmyDurham · 19/02/2022 18:38

Why on earth should you be embarrassed by BJ making an idiot of himself? He's the head of the UK government, not the embodiment of the whole UK population.

TheHateIsNotGood · 19/02/2022 18:42

wierd whatever the thread's 'point' is, which seems to me about describing the ongoing, "embarassing" ineptitude of Boris in as many ways possible; just adding my bit -

we get this version of political leaders until more of 'us' stand for political office. And accept that absolutely none of us are perfect.
Whilst there's a continual hunt for 'dirt' on anyone who dares to step forward, it reduces the pool of candidates.

TheHateIsNotGood · 19/02/2022 18:44

Therfore only the very thick-skinned and deluded sociopaths will apply.

cathotel · 19/02/2022 18:50

Everyday I wake up and the news comes on and I think - “surely this will be the day when the investigation into the parties comes out and he had to resign.....’

What is happening with that?

I can’t stand it any longer.
