What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

@RupertOscar1999

Towels... Why is everyone shocked about toilet roll? They will replace it anyway so why not take it Smile
Why would they replace the whole roll? It’s just penny pinching .
Hendalle · 14/02/2022 08:08

Only toiletries and not all the time. It’s a family joke, I collect them up & give them to my DGM.
Back on my first trip abroad with my aunty & cousin, DGM was very animated telling us that the toiletries in the hotel would be complimentary and we could use them or keep them as souvenirs.. this was repeated so often that we bought toiletries from the hotel & toothpicks & napkins (both unused!) from the plane as a gift for her Grin

And I am guilty of having a loud conversation on the Orient Express (with the same aunty) about what you’d like to steal from your compartment & what would be the best/easiest thing to steal. I had my eye on a crystal candlestick thing in the compartment Grin
We didn’t steal anything..

In the late 1980s my future husband and I went to Austria on a package holiday and had a day trip to Vienna. Like dutiful tourists, we visited Hotel Sacher for coffee and Sachertorte. I decided that the eye-watering bill could only be justified if the hotel branded ashtray on the table was included in the price, and slipped it into my bag.

Other than that, nothing. I'm the sort of guest who takes their own coffee and cheese into hotel buffet breakfasts.

countrygirl99 · 14/02/2022 08:09

I stayed in a hotel in Namibia where there were a family ofmeerkats in the grounds. They used to wander around the open-air bar area so were very used to people. The hotel had a problem with people stealing the babies. Some people are just selfish barstards.
**@GoBrookeYourself* I don’t owe @flowervest75* an apology at all. She is a brazen thief and thinks nothing of it so calling her out on her lack of common sense is fair game, both on this thread and on her previous thread.
You really do though. It was a totally totally shitty thing for you to say

DP and I always take a couple of big towels just because we can😂 they’re always super long and so comfy. I love them lol

Christ are you that hard up you can't afford towels. Wouldn't never occur to me to take them.

Not that hard up that they can't afford to stay in a hotel. You could buy some lovely super long towels for the price of a night in a hotel though. It's all very very odd.
Laiste · 14/02/2022 08:10

A pair of curtain tie backs and a tea spoon.

Tie backs - no excuse, in my defence your honour it was years ago, i was young and skint and they matched my cheap arse curtains at home.

The tea spoon - it was from the most beautiful and expensive place i've ever stayed over night and where i'd got married earlier in the day. It's 10 years ago and it still gives me happy feelings when it's the one i happen to grab out of the teaspoon pot.

Zonder · 14/02/2022 08:12

@shrunkenhead the poster is right. I've seen it happen in several pretty decent hotels - the chamber maid had a large version with a pump head on her trolley - no funnel needed. She just wiped the bottles and refilled. I also think she used the same one for the shampoo as for the body wash!

Roselilly36 · 14/02/2022 08:12

This thread has really made me laugh 😂 I realised how am I doing everything wrong when I stay at a hotel, I don’t take things I bring them, inc toilet roll, I always take my own as they never supply enough and I don’t want to ask for more so I bring a few from home. I prefer my own toiletries so they are of no use to me. Shocked that people would take towels and robes though.

flowervest75 · 14/02/2022 08:13

@CailleachGranda

A culture that steals and calls people "hun" perhaps
@CailleachGranda let’s not do that shall we. What culture advocates stealing?

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll let’s not start getting offensive over some hotel towels

SarahBellam · 14/02/2022 08:14

@Ylvamoon

A set of lovely bath towels... it had the hotels name on them, which is also my name. Just couldn't resist!
Your name is Travelodge?

@PartyPlan can you read? The thread is about what things have you taken from somewhere. I’ve taken something so I’ve commented. Calling me a ‘brazen thief’ when the thread is literally about stealing is humorous. Still no need to link any past threads when that has nothing to do with the price of fish or my common sense. Some people like you just can’t help themselves though!

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 08:16

People must take some very large suitcases to get the super long comfy towels and all the loo rolls in. Unless they are just strollling past Reception with them.

Laiste · 14/02/2022 08:17

@SarahBellam lol

Livpool · 14/02/2022 08:19

I take toiletries I will use and biscuits.

I'm not Ross from Friends though!

flowervest75 · 14/02/2022 08:20

The people calling me thieves on here are actually making me laugh. For the 50th time, the whole thread is about what things you’ve NICKED from a hotel. As in, what things have you stolen/taken that doesn’t belong to you. Why then come along and tell me a I’m a thief as if that does anything for me. The whole reason I’ve commented is because I’ve nicked something. Reading is fundamental.

It’s like someone starting a thread to say how many times have you taken money off of the floor and not handed it into the police. I comment saying I always keep money that I see on the floor and loads of people come along saying ‘wow I can’t believe you do that’ even though that’s literally what the thread is aboutHmm very strange comprehension skills on here!

flowervest75 · 14/02/2022 08:20

Again, back to you OP @Teadrinker11 🤣

WelliesWithHeels · 14/02/2022 08:21

How mortifying to steal anything, much less toilet paper and heavily used towels!

newbiename · 14/02/2022 08:22

@flowervest75

I’d love to hear the difference between taking toilet tissue or towels from a hotel and taking glasses from a pub. Surely they’re all stealing no but I bet I’ll hear that one isn’t as bad as the other🤔
There isn't a difference. Theft is theft. The cost of people thieving is passed on to other customers. Not hard.
ENoeuf · 14/02/2022 08:22

Well thanks @flowervest75 I’ve just added the Blakemore to hotels to try, having googled it. Also the pile on is mad. Other pps have mentioned towels and things and it’s only you getting it. The thread is about nicking things! It’s like pps have seen the title and decided they fancy telling someone off.

We’ve taken the free slippers, pens by accident, toiletries and biscuits for the kids. Bought a pen in the Langham as dm loved the room one. Also guilty of nabbing mini Nutella’s.

Rivermonsters · 14/02/2022 08:22

Flowers needs to calm down

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 14/02/2022 08:23

It's not OK to steal glasses from a pub either! When I was young and sprightly and worked in a pub it used to drive us mad when people stole glasses, ashtrays and bar towels. The publican has to buy new ones you know, they don't grow on trees!

I don't think that is the case anymore. DH and I were on a rare date night out and partook in one to many glasses of Estrella. The branded glasses were so lovely that I was incredibly cheeky and asked the barman if I could keep 2 for home.

He said it was fine - they are given branded glasses by the breweries and always have loads!

They still have pride of place in my cupboard.

RampantIvy · 14/02/2022 08:23

@flowervest75 I think it is because you actually stole from the hotel whereas everyone else has just taken items that are meant to be consumed and not reused - drinks, biscuits, toiletries etc.

There is a difference.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 08:24

@WelliesWithHeels

Exactly. They probably have the lightbulbs away too.
Maireas · 14/02/2022 08:24

@Laiste - curtain tie backs are a weird thing to steal! I've never even owned a pair!
