What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

I really cba taking anything.. even the little shampoos would probably leak in my suitcase, & it's heavy enough anyway!
If there are those little Biscoff things on a saucer in a cafe when they bring my coffee, I'll take those for my youngest, but that's IT!

RachelGreeneGreep · 17/02/2022 17:00

@ArticSaviour

Pens. All the pens.

In the days before Covid when I used to go to meetings/conferences in hotels, I would go round at the end and collect all the spare pens too.

I'm a teacher so they are not for me

Pens are usually intended as promotional items, with the name etc of the hotel on them, so I think hotels want you to take them.
Monopolyiscrap · 17/02/2022 17:29

@Sparklingbrook towels are always washed between guests unless a hotel is totally shit. Even the cheap hotels wash towels.

Er, thanks but that's what I was saying. Confused

I agree. No point having the hotel logo and phone number on the pen unless it's going to leave the hotel.

I thought this thread had pretty much died. I have only just looked to see how many times the OP had posted. Once. Last Sunday. I wonder if @Teadrinker11 got the replies they were after?

They're busy writing their story as we speak......

Is it not in the Daily Mail yet? Surprising.
Sparklingbrook · 17/02/2022 18:21

An AS is quite illuminating...

Capri3 · 17/02/2022 20:22

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

I have heard so many nasty stories about those kettles I just can't use it.

Yeah, lots of people tell tales about them, but they're just full of crap.... so it's probably not a bad idea to bring your own after all Grin

Same here.

Thank goodness for Nepresso machines in hotel rooms. No way anyone can boil their undies in one of them! I do miss having tea, but way too much of a risk 🤮

chesirecat99 · 17/02/2022 20:55

I saw this thread trending on Apple News a few days ago, @Sparklingbrook. I think it was in the Sun rather than the Daily Hate Mail.

Isn't it just

Lots of one post starters, then nothing

myfaceismyown · 17/02/2022 23:27

Just realised I have been duped. I added a genuine story thinking I was sharing it with other Mums who, like me, struggle with the ups and downs of life. I am sure none pf us want to be part of some rubbish tabloid feed

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2022 00:03

Thanks

CounsellorTroi · 18/02/2022 08:30

@Sparklingbrook

They are easily put in the bin by mistake when clearing up I know people steal things. But unless she has posh cutlery, I don't believe there are lots of people desperate to steal a teaspoon from a cafe

She’s worked there long enough to know that people are stealing the teaspoons.

Quite possibly they are stealing them for their office, there is always a teaspoon shortage in offices. Not that that excuses it.
Mxflamingnoravera · 18/02/2022 08:38

In hotels in Taiwan there is a price list in the room, for EVERY ITEM, lightbulbs, towels, sheets, phone; the Taiwanese woman I was working with said theft from rooms was so bad that they simply listed the inventory of the room with a price in dollars for every item and would deduct any missing items (that were not consumable) from the card you had to use to check in.

Naiceholiday · 18/02/2022 10:17

Nothing, I did used to take all the little bottles of toiletries but now I can't stand the clutter so I leave it all.
I have just liberated a pen from the hotel I stayed in yesterday but that was more to stop DD drawing on the walls with it and I forgot it was in my back pocket.

woodhill · 18/02/2022 12:32

No pen or pad to take where I was staying but there were mini toiletries which I will use

moneymoneymoneybags · 18/02/2022 12:34

Towels Blush

Sassoon · 18/02/2022 16:11

Taking the toiletries isn't stealing - you've paid for them?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/02/2022 17:10

I agree that no business with any business sense is going to object to people taking pens away with them. They want you to do just that.

The whole idea of them is that, whereas a standard business card might get tossed straight into the recycling, this being a handy, useful pen, it will be kept and used - and every pair of eyes that sees it is another potential customer being advertised to for however many months/years it lasts.
