What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

Why would you want a stack of mismatched, well used towels? Hotel quality towels are easy enough to buy.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 13/02/2022 22:06

I know you say you are not ashamed of stealing towels PP, but you should be. That is out and out theft. I am shocked.

cheekychaplin · 13/02/2022 22:07

@Dutchesss

Toiletries, biscuits and teabags. Only because I assume they will be thrown away if I don't. I know most hotels are supposed to throw and replace these things in case previous guests have tampered with them.

Sorry to break it to you, hotels are not throwing away anything 'just in case'

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/02/2022 22:18

you can help yourselves to towels and keep topping them up so it’s not like you check in with a set amount and are expected to check out with that same amount. So there’s no charges or anyone getting in touch about anything.

I'm pretty sure you are expected to return the same number - it's just that it's possible for dishonest guests to betray their trust in basic human decency and get away with it. There are charges in replacing stolen towels - but the hotel have to absorb these charges or spread them across all guests, including the majority honest ones, in their prices.

Nope, not if they haven't been started. It would be pointlessly wasteful if they did that. In fact, considering all the pooed-in hotel kettles you hear about, some places probably don't check very thoroughly at all....

You are a thief plain and simple flowervest75 and you brag about it. Hope someday they make you open your luggage and embarrass you but you probably wouldn't be. Get a job and pay for them yourself.

@flowervest75

DP and I always take a couple of big towels just because we can😂 they’re always super long and so comfy. I love them lol
I'd be embarrassed to admit to that.

^ Reason everyone pays more for hotels -that’s called stealingHmm
WingingItSince1973 · 13/02/2022 22:26

Oh it's OK to take the towels because everyone knows that hotels have a never ending supply of towels that don't cost anything so no-one is having to absorb the costs of these stolen ones! Seriously, buy your own!

Wtf steals used towels?! That's really weird. Big towels aren't exactly rare enough that you couldn't buy them.

elfycat · 13/02/2022 22:33

I took a teaspoon from an AirBnB. It didn't match the rest of the set and was really cute DD2 gets to love things - may turn out to have some kind of neurodiverse issue but her teacher and I agree she's not at a threshold yet . I replaced it with a generic other teaspoon I bought so I left the same number behind.

Ohjustboreoff · 13/02/2022 22:34

I'd like to preface this by saying this was not me but I used to travel a lot for work and one of my colleagues loved the curtains in a particular hotel. One stay she ran to the room, took the curtains down and hid them under the bed, then called front desk to say there are no curtains in the room. Then packed them up in her suitcase when she left. She was a massive CF all the time though!

Blush I don't know whether to feel guilty, or grossed out that my toiletries and snacks may have been manhandled. Envy I would never use a wall attached shower gel but the individual ones felt personal.

RampantIvy · 13/02/2022 22:34

I don't stay in hotels that have toiletries worth bringing home. The only things I have taken is the biscuits, especially If they are Border Biscuits. They have been out there for my consumption so it isn't stealing.

I don't steal towels because I have a moral backbone.

mindutopia · 13/02/2022 22:35

I’ve never taken anything from a hotel (can’t think of anywhere I stayed that had anything I ever would have wanted to take), but I’m known for taking glasses from pubs if they are particularly interesting. And I have an entire set of the little flutes that Virgin Atlantic serves their prosecco in. I figure I paid enough to earn them!

CounsellorTroi · 13/02/2022 22:39

My DH once returned a couple of wine glasses to a hotel bar. The barman was surprised we’d bothered, he said people have taken them and even things like TV remotes.

I never bother with the toiletries, they are never as good as what I use myself.

Siameasy · 13/02/2022 22:40

The toiletries are useful for when DD goes swimming that’s all I take

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/02/2022 22:41

I always take the herbal teabags and biscuit packs for the ladies at work but was a bit embarrassed when I went to a very fancy hotel. Checked in, went to the room, had a look around, emptied the tea bags and biscuits into my case as I knew I wouldn't use them and went out for a walk. Came back an hour later and they'd already sent housekeeping in to refresh the room and they'd refilled the basket, so just of known I'd just packed the lot. I really wasn't expecting them to be watching for us to leave the room within the first hour of our stay 🤭

tiktokontheclock · 13/02/2022 22:41

I work in hospitality. Please don't steal the towels! Supply chain issues are REALLY affecting hotels right now, and even if a hotel is say, a Holiday Inn or a Best Western, they are still owned by independent owners (the big groups just lend them the brand names), so you are in effect stealing from much smaller businesses than you think. I know some owners who, because of supply chain issues, are having to fill the gaps by buying laundry from chain stores while they wait for their hotel grade linen to come in, etc...it's a mess. Just take the amenities like most people and be done with it!

And...toilet roll? Really?!

flowervest75 · 13/02/2022 22:42

it's just that it's possible for dishonest guests to betray their trust in basic human decency and get away with it.

I never said it was the right thing to do but it’s a couple of towels not £100 grand from the safe. Clearly no one has taken anything from a hotel that they’re not supposed too

flowervest75 · 13/02/2022 22:44
@flowervest75 posted yesterday that her 9 month old daughter is wearing size 7 nappies and she’s wondering what to do. She’s hardly the sharpest tool in the box.
@PartyPlan lol I knew someone would do this what a loser. You clearly have way too much time on your hands. Last I checked this is a parenting forum where people come to get advice. I made a mistake (on something that other people had also got wrong) and came to MN to find out what I was doing wrong. We can’t all be perfect parents like you😉

CounsellorTroi · 13/02/2022 22:45

I used to work with someone who had an entire set of canteen crockery at home that she’d stolen one piece at a time.

HollowTalk · 13/02/2022 22:47

The thing is, I would not want a partner who steals. I wouldn't want to sleep with him or talk to him or be with him. I'd be incredibly judgmental of an adult man who steals a towel, ffs. Same goes to you @flowervest75.
