What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

Taking the little toiletries and tea bags etc isn't stealing - they are meant for you. Taking towels, toilet rolls etc is stealing - and pretty desperate behaviour.

DillDanding · 14/02/2022 20:40

I would think I'd reached my lowest ebb if I had to take toilet rolls from a hotel.

My husband takes the mini toiletries to use at the gym, I never take anything.

Xenia · 14/02/2022 20:43

Nothing ever. It is a crime. I would also lose my whole career- a life's work.

Ilovecharliecat · 14/02/2022 21:02

@TheRealityCheque

Had a few towels. Bathrobes.

Two particularly comfortable feather pillows.

Radio / CD / MP3 / clock thingy.

A funky waste bin, oh and a beautiful looking stainless steel fan.

I'm trying to work out if you are being serious or sarcastic?

I think there will be a version of Hotel Interpol in the future. Hoteliers and B and B owners will share info on guests. ‘I’m sorry, no we can’t take your booking. You’re on the black list ‘. It will happen.

carbon60 · 14/02/2022 21:10

When I worked at a hotel the boss used the hotel bed linen and towels in his own house. He also had the cleaners clean his house, I think he thought we were servants!
The toiletries, coffee, tea, pens and biscuits are there to be used and just get replaced, but not towels and robes. However ,one day someone got away with a shower, the whole thing! A full coffee percolator ( that was hot) disappeared from a packed reception.
some people will nick anything if its not nailed down, and sometimes if it is!

Nothing although I have taken fruit at buffet breakfast to eat mid morning

There have been threads about Disneyland hotels (IIRC) saying people make a full packed lunch using the breakfast buffet Shock

@NeverTouchWarmPants

Can someone please clarify if you can take the slippers sealed in plastic please? Ive always left them as I thought they could be reused
They are cheap disposable slippers. Basically cardboard covered in towelling. Once worn they can’t be used by anyone else so if you leave them they will be thrown away. Yes, re the slippers-if you've worn them they are yours. If I haven't worn them I leave them. I don't need any slippers at home.

I wonder if any of the posters who claim to have never taken anything have done this? A few extra mini jam jars, food from the buffet for a snack later? When we were on a school trip (1980s) I remember being told by teachers to take some daytime snacks from the breakfast buffet. The hotel staff provided paper bags. I grew up thinking it was ok everywhere! Obviously the teachers had come to an agreement as it’s not generally good etiquette.
Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 21:47

I've never taken anything from the breakfast buffet for later in the day because I'd buy something to eat. I wouldn't want to be eating bread and jam from the breakfast buffet hours later.

Monopolyiscrap · 14/02/2022 22:01

I take lunch from the breakfast buffet. And I do not eat bread and jam.

What's for lunch then?
Monopolyiscrap · 14/02/2022 22:02

Cheese, ham and salad sandwiches with fruit.

Monopolyiscrap · 14/02/2022 22:03

Basically because after a breakfast and dinner out, I only need a small roll or similar during the day.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 22:07

You sit at the breakfast table making sandwiches? Where's the salad at the breakfast buffet?
Monopolyiscrap · 14/02/2022 22:08

There is always tomatoes and cucumber with the ham and cheese. And yes I do.

Blimey.
Monopolyiscrap · 14/02/2022 22:09

If I am in a hotel that only has cereals and a cooked breakfast, then no I do not make anything. But I prioritise a good buffet breakfast.

toddybell · 14/02/2022 22:13

Husband and I are not tea or coffee drinkers and never know what makes a good brew so we regularly 'steal' teabags and coffee sachets from hotel rooms so any guests we have at home can choose their favourite!

I was tempted once to steal a pillow from a hotel we stayed at because it was perfect. I had the best sleep during my stay at the hotel because of that battered old pillow. Left it behind with a heavy heart.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 22:16

DH takes his own pillow everywhere, but we make sure to pack it in the case or a bag so there's no misunderstandings. Grin

My search for the perfect pillow continues (I have tried them all), please feel free to share the brand/model of your DHs pillow!

If it was so old and battered, they might have sold it to you if you'd asked.
Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2022 22:22

Not sure of exact make and model of pillow, IIRC it came from House of Fraser and quite a while back. It's feather and quite solid, he has to bash it into the perfect shape each night Grin
