What things are you guilty of nicking from hotels?

I'm definitely guilty of stealing things from hotel rooms. I never go for anything overly big, usually teabags, toilet roll and the toiletries when I leave.
What are you guilty of nicking from hotels or your workplace?

@TheHoptimist

The hotel I am in today has a price list. Robes are$180 and glasses $54
DH bought a robe from our honeymoon hotel, tbh it wasn't expensive and of course we got a brand new one, not the actual one from our room. He used it for years.
LaChanticleer · 14/02/2022 16:32

I 'm curious about stealing toilet rolls, in my experience hotels tend to have appalling quality toilet paper. I usually end up bringing my own paper in rather than taking their paper out.

Indeed, @MorningStarling And how embarrassing- to be so hard up, you have to rolls of loo paper from a hotel!

Every day’s a school day on MN.

Hippophile · 14/02/2022 16:32

There are some low rent posters on this thread 😂

A v brief ex of mine stole a bathrobe from Soho Farm, and they charged his credit card when he’d left

NotMeNoNo · 14/02/2022 16:32

No, my sister used to run a guest house, I've seen the other side of the work involved replacing the huge amount of things dirtied/broken/nicked - beyond belief.
Don't be under any illusions - staff see everything, including what you throw in the bin and the handbag-stuffers at the breakfast buffet.

Hippophile · 14/02/2022 16:35

The hotel we stayed in as part of our honeymoon has the most amazing king size pillows. We asked if we could buy a couple. Yes, we were told. They were £250 each! Didn’t cross our minds to steal them Confused

We found v similar in JL when we got back for half the price.

@flowervest75

Shame on you

WomanStanleyWoman · 14/02/2022 16:52

@ajandjjmum

What is it with you *@flowervest75*?

You seem to be doing everything to can to antagonize people who already have a low opinion of thieves.

Go and do something useful?

To be fair, people do keep popping up to tag her and tell her how awful she is. I don’t agree with stealing from hotels either, but you’re not telling me these people aren’t enjoying the argument as much as @flowervest75 is.

I can’t believe anyone honestly thinks their post is going to make flowervest75 have a sudden revelation and repent for her sins. Newsflash: she doesn’t give a toss.

WomanStanleyWoman · 14/02/2022 16:52

Case in point. What do you think that comment achieved?

But you are conflating issues. Of course, things will be broken and dirtied. That happens.
DrSbaitso · 14/02/2022 16:57

Apparently, hotels rarely charge for theft on the credit card because it's not worth the bad publicity.

JovialNickname · 14/02/2022 17:02

Re. the stealing 2 big towels thing, I wouldn't only because surely it would take up so much suitcase room to take home 2 big bath sheets? You'd need an extra medium suitcase just for them! It wouldn't be worth the inconvenience to haul them cross-country when you could just buy some new ones from a shop.

TarpaulinEyes · 14/02/2022 17:02

Nah. You need to take them off the trolley in case they count them in your room

The joys of browsing the housekeeping trolley!

I stayed in a 5* London hotel once and rang down for some more shampoo as ran out. A carrier bag of posh goodies was delivered to my room within minutes with housekeeping compliments. Basically if you ask you will normally be given a few extra shampoos if you want them.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/02/2022 17:02

I'd say what bad publicity - after all they'd only be charging for what someone's had - but the lowlifes who steal would probably go straight on social media to claim they'd been robbed

Ironic really ...

fairycakes1234 · 14/02/2022 17:05

@LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood

I know you say you are not ashamed of stealing towels PP, but you should be. That is out and out theft. I am shocked.
@LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood

youre easily shocked :)

fairycakes1234 · 14/02/2022 17:09

I take tea/coffee sachets/sugar/shampoo conditioner, notebook and a pen, em let me think, anything else...no thats it, never take the towels cause they never seem fluffy....toilet roll...no, not that hard up, did take toilet roll when i was a student working in hotel, we were hard up then...

MissBridgetJones · 14/02/2022 17:25

@Footsanitiser

At one hotel I went to the shampoo was labelled "the best you've ever stolen" or words to that effect. It actually annoyed me because as they were individual containers (tubes so not easily refillable) they must budget for a new one each time. They're not going to leave a half used one with suds and strands of hair round it! Confused So yes I did take it.
Malmaison used to do this... you are actively encouraged to take them!
NeverTouchWarmPants · 14/02/2022 17:50

Can someone please clarify if you can take the slippers sealed in plastic please?
Ive always left them as I thought they could be reused

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/02/2022 18:15

But you are conflating issues. Of course, things will be broken and dirtied. That happens.

Of course there will be a certain amount of normal expected wear and tear, genuine accidents and cleaning required, but I assume PP was talking about the far greater amount of things that are deliberately and selfishly/carelessly broken and dirtied, as well as outright stolen.

HollaHolla · 14/02/2022 18:46

@LaChanticleer

I stay in hotels a lot for work. The toiletries are usually crap. Not worth using let alone taking home as a “treat”. Except one hai in Texas that uses Le Labo rose products. They were worth using. And I didn’t need to stash them - housekeeping just put new ones in the bathrooms each day, even when I hadn’t used a whole bottle of body lotion. That was a nice suite hotel.
I've stayed in the Fairmont (for work!) and it's all Le Labo products. I stayed 5 nights, and came back with all of my daily tiny bottles. Grin
LaChanticleer · 14/02/2022 19:23

Yes it might have been a Fairmont hotel. Can’t remember the chain.

But I do remit had the most luxurious and comfortable beds I’d ever slept in. A pity my work meant I only had about 5 hours a night in them.

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 14/02/2022 19:44

That sound really pathetic. Depressing. Why do you do it? For the sake of few pence?

RachelGreeneGreep · 14/02/2022 19:45

I have always assumed they get thrown out tbh.

How do you know if something is deliberately or carelessly broken?
NeverTouchWarmPants · 14/02/2022 20:18

@RachelGreeneGreep bugger! I’ll know next time 🙄😄😄

CurlyMango · 14/02/2022 20:24

Nowadays I even take my own coffee to hotels, as that what I like and so that’s what I’ll use.
