If there was a war who would fight?

I am keeping my head in the sand. No news. But my child has come home from school asking about the Russian War thanks parents of little charlie and I have been noticing more planes and helicopters.

It's making me scared. Who would fight?
Would our husbands be made to leave for war?
My husband is the breadwinner. I don't work at all. I have small children would he have to go? how would i feed the children? clothe? house? wash?

Would women have to go? What would happen now we have 'equal rights'?
If only men would have to go to war would transmen count? What about transwomen?

Is it just people in the army?
please put my mind at rest.

I am so scared please don't call me a scare mongering idiot. My head was in the sand until my child came home talking about something I am trying to ignore. After a bit of further probing it turned out about a 3rd of the class have been told we are going to war by their parents so that is the reason for this thread.

You seriously need to calm down. Any idiots telling their children were going to war haven't got a brain cell between them. Who tells their child things like this - not a responsible parent! As to who would fight - the armed forces.

Even if there was a war it wouldn't be like WW2 with your average man being conscripted. The most that's likely to happen is Russia has a go at The Ukraine, the international community puts sanctions in place, there's posturing and Russia either leaves or stays.

I don't know but I guess similar to the other recent wars, the husbands weren't called up then, it was just those in the forces.

Thank you, I think I needed that laugh! Perhaps we should delete mumsnet threads, don't want the men to know who is really running things!

There has been loads of wars in my living history, Iraq war,Afganistan etc and it has only involed the armed forces.

Wwre not going to go to war over Ukraine, all that will happen is some speeches about how terrible it is and some sanctions. If we did go to war we have trained armed forces for that, they're not going to start conscription, war has changed a lot since ww2, having loads of barely trained people fighting won't be helpful.

to be fair @Redhotchllisteppa I can write my inner mist thoughts on here and it doesn't matter because its anonymous. But in real life I'm not sitting on the floor rocking back and forth mumbling 'war, war, war is coming' I'm just normal!

No-one will do conscription again (maybe America)

A world war serves no purpose there is no real battlefield battles anymore its not like call of duty we actually don't need as many infantry just people pushing buttons from a distance

Even when there is conscription, you still get paid a wage for being in the forces. We're not going to have conscription unless something goes seriously, seriously wrong. If things went that wrong we'd have rationing and all sorts of other societal changes, so we'd be living in a totally different kind of world.

I can't see it happening but then, I would never have thought I would be breaking the law having my mum round for a coffee.

I hope we don't have to go, if they did make all the men go life insurance costs are going to go through the roof!

Since most of the British population can’t manage wearing a mask to protect other people, I highly doubt they’ll manage to be conscripted into an army anytime soon.

The Army
The RAF
The Navy
The Marines.

There won’t be mass conscription. It’s not the 1940s.

Honestly though, all joking aside, I think if there were to be a world war, most of it would be fought using drones.

Oh and just to add ... it would just take a few good cyber hackers to hack in and get nuke codes (or destroy economies) so I wouldn't worry too much, you wouldn't have time

I think the times of land wars are mainly over. If we have a war I expect it would be a nuclear war.
