Ciaram55 · 11/02/2022 20:19

Oh hell, I'm worried too. It's very scary right now.

XenoBitch · 11/02/2022 20:20

Switch the news off. There is nothing you can do anyway.

BuritoCat · 11/02/2022 20:22

Yes, however Putin knows it could easily end up as world war 3 I think he's waiting to see what happens and who gets involved he's not stupid nobody wants a world war 3 what would be the point?

Try not to worry. It's most likely to be a Cold War situation.

Nailsbythesea · 11/02/2022 20:24

He will invade and we will do nothing - receipe for disaster long term

wonderfulworld45 · 11/02/2022 20:27

Oh no the comments have made me worse, was hoping someone would tell me I'm being ridiculous

OP posts:
Ciaram55 · 11/02/2022 20:28

Apparently they've advised UK citizens to leave. I'm so worried now.

Turn the news off, and it goes away. The only time I will worry is if my parents call and beg me to stay "because of the news". Until then, head in the sand.
HeddaGarbled · 11/02/2022 20:31

He will invade and we will do nothing except some performance hand-wringing and a few light sanctions, carefully chosen not to have any impact on our economy. It won’t affect you.

TheVolturi · 11/02/2022 20:31

The best thing you can do is be oblivious. Carry on your life. Because ultimately, nothing YOU can do will help the outcome.

FindingMeno · 11/02/2022 20:32

Always remind yourself that the media are looking to create impact.
A lot of people are working very hard for a peaceful outcome remember.

MasterGland · 11/02/2022 20:32

There won't be a war in the traditional meaning of the word. The US and UK have already ruled out boots on the ground. The war would be economic, waged with sanctions. This would probably create an energy crisis in Europe, however.

Comedycook · 11/02/2022 20:33

Unless you live in the Ukraine I wouldn't worry too much

XenoBitch · 11/02/2022 20:33

Yes, this. Remember how scared the media have made us all of Covid. Fear sells.
Ciaram55 · 11/02/2022 20:40

Bidens sending more troops over. Im hoping this is just a scare tactic.

DrManhattan · 11/02/2022 20:42

He will take Ukraine and the world will do nothing.

Ifailed · 11/02/2022 20:49

This conflict has been going on for years, before the Soviet invasion of Crimea. Just remember that 90% of what's going on is from Putin to the people in the rest of the USSR, it's all about him and his perceived 'strength'

Before anyone tries to correct me, the Russian Federation is now the same as the USSR to all intents and purposes.

notimagain · 11/02/2022 20:49

Well…you’ll probably get grumped at for that TBF you have a bit of a point.

The Ukraine is not a member of NATO…..NATO members have no treaty commitments to step in should Russia invade that country.

There’s lots of talk of reinforcements arriving from the States, etc, but those troops are in general deploying to member NATO states in the region.

VladmirsPoutine · 11/02/2022 20:54

Putin more or less said he doesn't want to result in nuclear warfare but will do if push comes to shove. Shit just got very real.

MarshaBradyo · 11/02/2022 20:57

@DrManhattan

He will take Ukraine and the world will do nothing.
What would you like to see in retaliation?

Just out of interest, I’ve not really been following the news much

Ciaram55 · 11/02/2022 20:58

But if it went nuclear what would Putin gain, surely he doesn't think there could be a winner.

BuritoCat · 11/02/2022 21:00

I don't think Ukraine are going down without a fight.
They're teaching children how to use guns.

Putin won't be pressing any red buttons, soon as he does that everyone else in the world will be pressing there's. There's no winner when it comes to nuclear.

LaPufalina · 11/02/2022 21:01

He won't do anything until the Winter Olympics finish, apparently. I have a well-connected colleague who told me.

BTYU · 11/02/2022 21:02

This is what you get with men in charge everywhere. They just don’t know how to back down. Before you know it and argument leads to a fight. I’m convinced it every world leader was female, the world would be a much safer place.

It will be bloody and lots of people will die unfortunately but it will probably be over quickly and some agreement reached.

America don’t help matters with their non stop rhetoric.

XenoBitch · 11/02/2022 21:06

Everyone on MN has a "well connected colleague".
Bagelsandbrie · 11/02/2022 21:06

Can anyone explain to me in very simple terms why Russia wants to invade (?) Ukraine…? I have no idea what’s going on and the news articles are so dense to wade through.
