How would you split the holiday?

So basically I have booked a holiday with my son (5), my dad and my dad's wife. We have got two rooms and also a free child place. How would you split the cost? Would you split per room so basically half the holiday each or per adult which is the holiday split into 3 as the child place was free?

Is it not itemised? I'd pay for the room you were staying in and the flight costs for you and your child (if applicable)

StrangeAddiction · 09/02/2022 18:22

If it was my dad I would hope they'd want to split the holiday between the 3 adults unless he really couldn't afford it and you're a millionaire!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/02/2022 18:23

Difficult one.

Gizlotsmum · 09/02/2022 18:23

Typically split holidays by bedroom..

becca3210 · 09/02/2022 18:23

Per room makes most sense to me

User135792468 · 09/02/2022 18:24

Per adult and the child is free. If you’re dad thinks 50/50 then he’s using you for a cheaper holiday which is very poor form.

mobear · 09/02/2022 18:24

Per room.

notacooldad · 09/02/2022 18:25

Have you asked them what they think is fair to get an idea of their thoughts?

PicaK · 09/02/2022 18:25

Well the child place isn't really free - the cost is built in isn't it?
I'd offer 40%

User135792468 · 09/02/2022 18:25

My reply is based on it being a package holiday abroad where you pay per person and the child is free. If it were a cottage in the U.K., then I agree it’s per room as theres 2 if you and two of them.

22Giraffes · 09/02/2022 18:26

I would do it per room

Piggy42 · 09/02/2022 18:26

If flights are involved Split by three adults. If accommodation only split by room

Blossomtoes · 09/02/2022 18:26

Why should two other adults benefit from the free child place? It’s yours @Mumstheword8.

Marmm · 09/02/2022 18:28

Per room for accommodation if it's just accommodation ie not all inclusive meals involved etc. Any flights pay per person.

Mumstheword8 · 09/02/2022 18:28

I thought splitting into 3 was making it fair but she thinks that because if I took my son away on my own it would of been more expensive for me so the holiday should just be split in half? Which means I'm really paying 1 and a half adults surely? So they pay £825 each and I have to pay £1650 even though the child place was free

If the price was per person then I'd say split by 3 as the extra adult impacted the cost, if the cost was by room then you should split 50/50 as the extra person hasnt made a difference to cost (obviously if their are flight costs that should be per person)

GettingThemFromHereToThere · 09/02/2022 18:28

How is the holiday cost advertised? Per person? Or per room?

If it's £500pp then, I'd offer £500 as your child is free.

If you've booked a 2 bed villa, for example, and it's £1500 for the villa, then I think you owe £750.

But doesn't the fact you're going make it cheaper for them too?!

Good point. How is it priced pp or per room?

Its irrelevant what a fictional holiday would cost you, this cost should be worked out based on the facts at hand
BuanoKubiamVej · 09/02/2022 18:30

If just the 3 adults were going with no child, and the 3 adults were splitting the cost on the basis of one having a room to themselves and the other two sharing, then I would be splitting the cost with 40% being paid by the single adult and 60% (ie 30% each) by the couple.

As the child's place is free I would think that something similar to this would be appropriate.

No, you pay £1100 each. She’s a cheeky fucker.
bruffin · 09/02/2022 18:32

What does the recept say per person

Tohaveandtohold · 09/02/2022 18:33

Is this including the cost of feeding, flights, etc or is the cost just to book the accommodation.
I think in this scenario, you need to itemise what’s included because I notice that when places say the child is free, it’s mostly their feeding and activity.
Because I would expect the accommodation will be split 50:50 as your dad and his wife will have a room and you and your son will have a room.
For the food, it’ll be per head so the 3 adults pay and the child is free I guess
For the flight, you pay for you and your son and they both pay.

Mumstheword8 · 09/02/2022 18:33

It is an all inclusive package holiday and was booked on price per person with a free child place but somehow feel like I'm at wrong asking it to be split into 3 because of the free child place
