With most people their age unable to buy any sort of home of their own, it just annoyed me. What's wrong with Kensington Palace and a Norfolk mansion. Confused Doesn't portray the Royals in a good light to me. AIBU?

Aren’t they around 40 years old? Statistically two thirds of people own their own home at that age ( obviously with a mortgage) so you are factually incorrect.

Why should they not move just because others can't

Wasitworthita · 08/02/2022 12:25

I can’t get excited about it. They are Royal and bring in a lot of tourism. People expect a certain amount of grandeur from Royals surely?

It’s a plan that they may ‘ultimately’ move to Windsor as it’s more convenient than Amner. They will at that point be heirs to the throne so it’s hardly inappropriate. Would you prefer they joined a housing association list or left Windsor empty?

It’s inevitable that there will be changes when the monarchy moves on and it’s hardly news that they own a lot of very large and grand properties.

Er no, why don't they stay put. Windsor can be a tourist attraction.

I've reported the troll post.

I can't get excited about them moving house. William's grandma has umpteen Windsor properties available for them to use. I hear Frogmore Cottage is available Wink

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 08/02/2022 12:28

Wouldn't it be more tone deaf for them to pretend poverty? Let's be realistic, they're the future King and Queen, members of the Royal Family, we all know they have more money then they could ever spend. Pretending anything else would be ridiculous.

I mean, lots of things they say are tone-deaf. They literally can’t relate to the average person. I don’t tend to pay it much attention.

I suppose you're right, but still it did feel that just right now with everyone facing the cost of living crisis it's a bit much to expect people to be pleased for them.

I can't get exercised about members of the royal family living in Windsor. Not everything has to be turned into a theme park.

Yes, that is the problem. They own so much, and do so little.
Pinkstegosaurus · 08/02/2022 12:31

Doesn’t the Queen spend most of her time there? Maybe they want to spend more time with the oldest member of their family? Can’t imagine why it would bother me where they live though.

AgentCarterRocks · 08/02/2022 12:31

Making use of one of many properties on the Crown Estate at Windsor is hardly earth-shattering news. Beatrice is currently in Frogmore Cottage i think, so Fort Belvedere is probably a potential. I have to say i cant get worked up about it.

Icantgetalifeifmyheartsnotinit · 08/02/2022 12:31

They probably don't have Netflix / go to the gym / Starbucks every day, so can afford their 3rd property.

formalineadeline · 08/02/2022 12:32

It's slightly weird that the nature of a monarchy means the platinum jubilee celebrations are being used quite so heavily to try and mentally prepare the population for the Queen dying.

All these announcements about how things will be after she dies, what to expect, what title people will have...

To be fair, I don’t think they’ve said “we need to move out of these tiny dumps to somewhere nice!”

I do see your point, but equally I don’t think this is something they’ve talked about, is it? Just something that’s been reported by journalists as “it’s being considered” “William and Kate may move”.
Wherever they live, it doesn’t solve the issues of having a royal family, so I don’t really care about it specifically. It’s just a small detail. The RF already own the place that’s being considered, what difference does it make who lives there.
