It feels tone deaf William and Kate talk of moving to Windsor

With most people their age unable to buy any sort of home of their own, it just annoyed me. What's wrong with Kensington Palace and a Norfolk mansion. Confused Doesn't portray the Royals in a good light to me. AIBU?

Totally agree with you Op. The number of homes freely available to them is unbelievable.

Mamamia7962 · 08/02/2022 12:59

They're not moving in to it next week OP. Kate and William haven't said anything about this at all. It's just speculation about what may happen some time in the future. Bit of a non story really.

QuinkWashable · 08/02/2022 13:00

This pair are being given another home at taxpayers expense. It's not like they're going to let go of the others is it. So to me that seems ott

They're not being given it - their family owns it, and their family happens to be the British Monarchy

The monarchy is run like a business - it pays all its taxes (voluntarily), it's struck business deals where various of their properties are open to the public, or rented for peppercorn rent to councils etc.

People, even fabulously wealthy people, are allowed to have their own property.

AngryMuppet · 08/02/2022 13:02

YANBU OP

Cuck00soup · 08/02/2022 13:03

@Icantgetalifeifmyheartsnotinit

They probably don't have Netflix / go to the gym / Starbucks every day, so can afford their 3rd property.

Important that. I bet they're so glad they followed Kirsty's advice.

What I want to know what will happen, once George has got into their catchment school and they move again once they've got a foot in the door...

Blossomtoes · 08/02/2022 13:06

If they move from Kensington Palace to Windsor they’ll be moving from one rented property to another. I personally don’t give a shit where they live, it doesn’t affect me in the slightest.

whynotwhatknot · 08/02/2022 13:06

Dont worry theyre not bumping anyone off the housing list

Newgirls · 08/02/2022 13:07

Moving to Windsor rather than living tucked away in Norfolk seems like a good move to me. They will be more avail for royal duties etc

Windsor is well used to royals living there and still functions as a tourist attraction.

In a way they will be giving up more of their privacy which is interesting.

mpsw · 08/02/2022 13:08

Why wouid they move to Windsor when they have DC settled in a London school?

It would be a gopping school run

And this 'story' has been doing the rounds in the US tabloids/gossip rags for a few weeks now, without a hint of a decent British source

Lockdownbear · 08/02/2022 13:09

Who cares, if they move to Winsdor to send George to the school within walking distance down the road.

Even if it does cost a bit to do the place up, it's providing work for someone.

Hmmph · 08/02/2022 13:09

It’s not morbid to think about and plan for death, it’s sensible. Everyone should. We should all make a Will and discuss arrangements with our loved ones.

Also, the Queen is 95. Prince Charles is 73. Prince William is next in line and, at 39, is the most sensible person to take on a big chunk of the “monarchy” roll and to support his grandmother and father. It’s easier to do that in person.

Think of it as relocating for work...

wordler · 08/02/2022 13:10

It would make more sense for them to move to Windsor - then move the last of the Queen’s cousins out of Kensington Palace as well and rent it out for office space - it’s prime London real estate and would help pay for other Royal estate upkeep.

That’s what I would do if it were up to me.

Svalberg · 08/02/2022 13:10

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Theres probably all sort of discussions going on at the moment. Who lives where just one of them. They are probably in discussions for future schools for the children as well... and it probably won't be the local comprehensive! Is that also tone death?
Oh, I don't know, Charters school is highly sought after by those who don't want to pay for schools, I'm sure they'd stretch their distance criteria to fit in the young Wales's if they aren't already in catchment in Belvedere
Blueroses99 · 08/02/2022 13:11

Anmer Hall was convenient when William worked for the air ambulance there. Windsor is more convenient for education and family. Kate’s family are in Berkshire and Windsor is closer to the Queen and to Prince Charles, whether he is in London or Highgrove. Life changes, I see no reason why we should begrudge them a move.

OfstedOffred · 08/02/2022 13:11

Their kids are at school in London, it makes sense for them to have their family home nearer than norfolk

Camoye · 08/02/2022 13:11

It's slightly weird that the nature of a monarchy means the platinum jubilee celebrations are being used quite so heavily to try and mentally prepare the population for the Queen dying.

Totally agree. It’s like a creepy desperate publicity campaign. I wish that when the Queen goes (god rest her soul) that the entire thing be wound up. Then all the palaces returned to the people & start generating proper income we desperately need. We do not need a royal family and the whole thing has just turned into an equivalent of the Kardashians for the British. Enough already. Let them go in peace with a few million each and give the rest back. It really isn’t as complicated as they like to make out.

Wasitworthita · 08/02/2022 13:11

I am not rich but them possibly moving doesn’t offend me. They are not given to vulgar displays of wealth, they work hard and are humble and down to earth. Should they pretend to be poor then? Confused

dipdye · 08/02/2022 13:11

Time for the revolution methinks

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 08/02/2022 13:12

@Maskingforit, a shyster is an unscrupulous dodgy dealer engaging in sharp practices. It is thought to have originally referred to a dodgy lawyer.

Exactly the sort of person who probably has a whole bulging portfolio full of real estate.

theDudesmummy · 08/02/2022 13:13

I don't care a hoot about the royals, but had to comment on this:

@MaskingForIt

What an offensive and stupid thing to say. I am neither a shyster nor ne-er do well and I am happy with my life choices. I was a senior NHS consultant, who until two years ago, aged 56, had never owned any property and had rented in London for over 30 years. The reasons why are nobody's business. I never had a mortgage and never wanted one. I bought a house for cash in 2020. BTW: Not every country has the obsession with home ownership and getting a mortgage that the UK has, you know.

Ghastlyghoul · 08/02/2022 13:15

*So I’m in my 40s and I’m an ICU nurse. I rent my home. Have I made bad choices? Am I a ‘ne’er do well’ ?

Of course you are. There’s no other possible explanation as to why you are still renting . You clearly need to get a proper job, knuckle down and sort yourself out.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 08/02/2022 13:15

One is so fearfully humble, one doesn't even order one's manservant to spotclean the ketchup stains from one's shell-suit before popping down to Asda for some Frosty Jack's.

It may be that it's just practically easier at the moment. It's the Platinum Jubilee year and Her Majesty is getting frailer. They may wish to be nearer to her for personal reasons, as well as for convenience.
