It feels tone deaf William and Kate talk of moving to Windsor

With most people their age unable to buy any sort of home of their own, it just annoyed me. What's wrong with Kensington Palace and a Norfolk mansion. Confused Doesn't portray the Royals in a good light to me. AIBU?

@MaskingForIt, aren't you an expert at making friends and influencing people 😂

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/02/2022 12:36

@formalineadeline

It's slightly weird that the nature of a monarchy means the platinum jubilee celebrations are being used quite so heavily to try and mentally prepare the population for the Queen dying.

All these announcements about how things will be after she dies, what to expect, what title people will have...

I was thinking that yesterday. They either think pushing this all out during the jubilee will put a happy spin on things or know the reign is drawing to an end....
FloBot7 · 08/02/2022 12:36

Didn't the Queen and Prince Philip move to Windsor when she was still a Princess? Maybe it's the natural place for the heir to be so they can support the monarch. Based on the Camilla announcement it sounds like they are focussing on arrangements for life after the Queen. Morbid as it is, they need her 70 years of wisdom. She's seen monarchy's fall apart and the transition to Charles will be tricky to navigate.

wordler · 08/02/2022 12:37

It’s not something they have announced themselves though. It’s just speculation from reporters to fill newspapers/article quotas.

anon12345678901 · 08/02/2022 12:37

I don't see the issue. Why can't they make use of it? Windsor already houses the RF staff. What's the problem with Kate and William living there to?

Damnloginpopup · 08/02/2022 12:39

I think they are tone deaf for having children when some people can't. And walking about without assistance because some can't. And wearing nice clothes because some can't.

Not to mention that they seem to have a grip. Perhaps you should consider getting one too op? You might not get so pointlessly offended about nothing then.

They lived in Clarence House I believe. But the king was based at Buckingham palace. Whereas the Queen is based more in Windsor I think.
Pinkdelight3 · 08/02/2022 12:40

I'd have thought the ne'erdowell post was a joke, following on from the Kirsty stuff. It's clearly not meant to be taken seriously with that tone.

Xiaoxiong · 08/02/2022 12:40

I don't think they expect anyone to be pleased or annoyed or anything for them - royals move between royal residences shocker. If you read the news, it's "insiders" who are "indicating" this, not an official press release or a demand on your attention. Anyway, they've been visiting prep schools in Berkshire for ages so it's likely that they're moving for their kids' education.

MaskingForIt · 08/02/2022 12:41

But they won’t own it, they’ll be renting, just like all the other poor souls who are still renting in their 40s through no fault of their ken whatsoever. I think it makes them totally relatable.

People in rented houses often have to move frequently and uproot their children, so it is nice that the royals are doing it too.

Poetrypatty · 08/02/2022 12:43

I think these places cost numerous millions to renovate before they move in, so a google says 4.5 million on KP. All I'm saying really is that timing wise it seems tone deaf. But then again royals are going to be royals I suppose. I do personally think the whole RF should be slimmed down a lot after the Queen and that includes not wasting millions.

It's perfectly normal for 40-somethings with growing families to move for schools, jobs, family commitments. I see no difference.

Norfolk was a lovely place to be out of the public eye while the kids were small, but there will be more choice of schools in Berkshire and it's much nearer to the family business HQ as William steps up for his eventual role. This is the "forever home", for the next 20 years.

LosingTheWill2022 · 08/02/2022 12:48

How is (potentially) moving from one Royal residence to another "tone deaf"? Confused

Your post makes no sense. There are so many republican arguments you could make but griping about moving between palaces / castles isn't one of them.

Georgeskitchen · 08/02/2022 12:50

The question I always ask on this subject is: if you were born into a fabulously wealthy family, would you say sod this I'm moving into a council flat on a sink estate?
I think we all know the answer to that!!

Andante57 · 08/02/2022 12:50

Op do you object to anyone moving into a house they’ve inherited?

SickAndTiredAgain · 08/02/2022 12:51

All I'm saying really is that timing wise it seems tone deaf. But then again royals are going to be royals I suppose.

But the royals haven’t actually done this now, they’ve not announced a move. It’s just journalists saying it’s a possibility.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/02/2022 12:52

They were never going to end up in a three bed semi in Shard End were they? 😂

If I was royal I’d want to live in a nice house too. I’d want the palaces and diamonds and the nice clothes.

Poetrypatty · 08/02/2022 12:53

Interesting points and the majority think I'm BU so fair enough. Not W & K's fault but I do feel despair at the way the super rich in our country are carrying on when around a third of children live in poverty and people can't afford to heat their homes.

This pair are being given another home at taxpayers expense. It's not like they're going to let go of the others is it. So to me that seems ott

OP posts:
IncompleteSenten · 08/02/2022 12:55

It is.
But people seem to want a monarchy so what can you do?

I'd like to see it abolished but apparently it's something to be proud of for some reason.

Ciaram55 · 08/02/2022 12:55

@Wasitworthita

I can’t get excited about it. They are Royal and bring in a lot of tourism. People expect a certain amount of grandeur from Royals surely?
There's no proof they bring in tourists. In fact we might even get more tourists without them..
mogschristmascalamity · 08/02/2022 12:55

Its doesnt sound like they want to leave Kensington tbh.

I think the main thing is that as Prince and Princess of Wales (as they will be then) they will be expected to host visiting dignitaries etc which cant be done from KP (although yes Barak did pop in with Michelle once).

Until the Queen dies its all speculative anyhow.

Yes!

It's quite morbid isn't it?

All I can think of is that they are using the "high" of the jubilee to hope that people will just accept what they would otherwise have opposed!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/02/2022 12:56

Theres probably all sort of discussions going on at the moment. Who lives where just one of them. They are probably in discussions for future schools for the children as well... and it probably won't be the local comprehensive! Is that also tone death?
