Any Tory who defended Boris's Savile smear as 'cut and thrust' should immediately recant

noblegiraffe · 07/02/2022 20:27

Any of the despicable lot who did the media rounds defending Boris making a far-right smear in parliament as 'political cut and thrust' should be faced with a journalist tomorrow asking whether they had reconsidered in the light of the mob surrounding Keir Starmer tonight calling him a fucking traitor, saying he should be hung, and repeating the same accusation. Their responses should be collated and published.

In recent years we have seen two MPs murdered. These mobs must be taken seriously. They should not be whipped up by the Prime Minister in the Houses of Parliament.

Boris has to accept responsibility for this, and every fucker who defended it as acceptable should be called to account.

Would like to see a few of the usual suspects turn up here and carry on defending the slur, which even for Boris, was low.

AuntyJanet · 07/02/2022 20:31

I’m starting to wonder what Boris has to do to lose the support of some of his MPs.

We’ve pretty much hit rock bottom today. The Leader of the Opposition harassed and screamed at by a noose-wielding mob, emboldened by a right wing lie propagated by the man who holds the office of Prime Minister.

Just utterly fucking disgraceful.

MrsHamlet · 07/02/2022 20:36

This is the political equivalent of "banter", and is despicable.

The already have on another thread
thecatfromjapan · 07/02/2022 20:38

Thank you for starting this thread.

I'm appalled and devastated about this.

I really hope I am not alone in thinking this is totally unacceptable.
I'm glad you make me feel I'm not alone in finding it just unsupportable.

I just hope others feel this way.

user1471453601 · 07/02/2022 20:39

@noblegiraffe, I totally agree. But how can he be held to account, apart from at the ballot box in May?

I've written to my MP pretty much saying what you say, but as they arent in the same party (and cannot vote because they are a deputy speaker) there seems precious little they can do either.

Any suggestions?

noblegiraffe · 07/02/2022 20:39

Who defended him?

Dominic Raab ('cut and thrust')
Kwasi Karteng ('perfectly reasonable')
Nadine Dorries ('he does tell the truth')

Who else?

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 07/02/2022 20:40

That should be Kwasi Kwarteng.

I'm sure there were more lining up to say it was fine.

KaptainKaveman · 07/02/2022 20:40

Sadly it brings a new, more literal meaning to the term "cut and thrust".
Johnson/Trump, what's the difference?

JanglyBeads · 07/02/2022 20:40

As have just seen someone tweet - online abuse does not stay online.

So Trumpian, and they're still uncovering the dubious roots there.

noblegiraffe · 07/02/2022 20:43

I hope journalists will be all over this tomorrow. And I hope that the people in question aren't allowed to hide from being grilled about it. Like I said, I'd like their responses to be collated and published.

I don't know if anyone here has the defenders (or Big Dog himself) as their MP, I'd be sending a pretty sharp email tonight if I did.

All those with Conservative constituency MPs please write to them!

noblegiraffe · 07/02/2022 20:55

James Cleverly ('factually accurate')

Jacob Rees-Mogg ('They are perfectly fair and reasonable points of political debate.')

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60294483

It's finally reached the BBC website but in a somewhat toned down form. Reported later than Channel 4 and The Guardian:

BBC "Two arrested after protestors surround Starmer"

Ch4 "the Labour leader was rescued from a mob of protesters by police."

Guardian "Anti-vax protesters shouting Savile slurs target Keir Starmer – video

Apparently Nadine stoked the QAnon theory in 2019?

Appuskidu · 07/02/2022 20:57

I can’t believe people are voting YABU!

noblegiraffe · 07/02/2022 21:00

There are always cowards posters who will vote YABU on threads like this, but never actually try to defend their vote.

Johnson has done far more lasting damage to his country.

Yes, good point, they are all capable of holding their leader to account.

Already done.

colouringindoors · 07/02/2022 21:06

Totally. Those scenes with Keir Starmer today make me feel totally appalled. Johnson really is Britain's Trump and is dragging us from the gutters down to the sewers.

thecatfromjapan · 07/02/2022 21:09

This is what the Conservative MPs need to be saying.

En masse.

They need to take control of their Leader and their Party.

Any Tory who defended Boris's Savile smear as 'cut and thrust' should immediately recant
thecatfromjapan · 07/02/2022 21:10

And, honestly, anyone who finds themselves on MN trying to defend/minimise this: you're doing the wrong thing.

MoltenLasagne · 07/02/2022 21:10

This is the first thing I've known that has even turned my Conservative voting colleagues. Everything else has been excused somehow but this seems to be the final straw. So it might actually hurt them at the ballot box at last.

Totally agree. Disgraceful, appalling behaviour. What else can you expect from a man devoid of humanity and empathy.

It must be awful for Starmer and his family especially in light of MP murders. I don't know how Bojo can look at himself. The conservative party are a dangerous group of self serving twats.

I will contact my MP sadly conservatives are very popular where I Live.
