Not to want "OUTSTANDING CLITORAL STIMULATION" at the top of every page on here?

Yes, Mumsnet has to make money.

Yes, orgasms are great.

But AIBU to be slightly uncomfortable with seeing "Outstanding clitoral stimulation.” Best sex toys from Ann Summers to heat things up this winter at the top of every damn page? Pretty sure threads from the Sex topic don't appear in Active Convos so why is this OK? I don't need to see it every single time. Sometimes I just want to have a quick look for parking threads and CF drama without having to scroll past "Outstanding clitoral stimulation.” Best sex toys from Ann Summers to heat things up this winter. It's unnecessarily explicit.

Someone did complain back in October, but MN never came back with a proper response.

AIBU or should I accept the constant presence of "Outstanding clitoral stimulation.” Best sex toys from Ann Summers to heat things up this winter. ?

YANBU with bells on. I'm not prude but it's fucking annoying to see that at the top of every page, even though the click-through rate on their sponsored ad threads must be miserable. The vast majority of MN users are returning readers so it they didn't click on that within the first 1-2 days of seeing it, they obviously never will.

Viviennemary · 07/02/2022 09:59

YANBU. except that it's now at the top of the page and in the middle of the page.

thetemptationofchocolate · 07/02/2022 10:00

Ann Summers is a MLM company now - I will never support a company that operates on those lines.

I have to say I howled out loud at the poster who wrote 'Mumsnet, pull your finger out' :) Genius comment.

Fabuleuse · 07/02/2022 10:01

Whoever said it was tawdry is totally correct. Can you imagine a men's forum with a sticky (UGH) thread about stimulating their penis? @mnhq please get rid of this, it's totally inappropriate and many users have told you exactly why they don't appreciate sexual material in their face constantly.

AnyFucker · 07/02/2022 10:02

Yeah, it’s not appropriate for a parenting site

ShittyFingers · 07/02/2022 10:04

Agreed. It’s tacky as fuck

Lonelycrab · 07/02/2022 10:11

Yanbu, if it was on the sex board only, that would be fine but main page it’s a bit much.

I’m a dad fwiw and none of my mostly male forums have “outstanding stimulation for your penis” type stickies... if they did it would be a bitHmm

AuntieStella · 07/02/2022 10:14

I think it's fine that the site acknowledges that parents like sex as a recreation and may be interested in buying toys.

But there have been too many ads for companies that sell them, and thus one has been too prominent for too long.

And if any are now MLMs, then I think MN should not be promoting them at all

LittleGwyneth · 07/02/2022 10:14

I cannot get over the prudery on this website. Truly, it shocks me every single time.

TempsPerdu · 07/02/2022 10:14

Agree with everyone else - not a prude but I wince every time I see this. Not classy.

LittleGwyneth · 07/02/2022 10:14

How do you think people become parents?!
staceyflack · 07/02/2022 10:15

Agree.

stuntbubbles · 07/02/2022 10:16

Even seeing it at the top of this thread is rubbing me up the wrong way.

AnyFucker · 07/02/2022 10:16

How do you think people become parents?!

Did you miss that day at school when they did sex education ? Grin

ginandbearit · 07/02/2022 10:20

It's pure Alan Partridge..just put 'aha' after it ...will fit well with "classic sexual.intercourse"

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/02/2022 10:23

it is certainly eye catching

Kgutdfn · 07/02/2022 10:25

Yep needs to go

ThanksIGotItInMorrisons · 07/02/2022 10:29

I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ve never noticed! Am I the inly one??

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2022 10:34

I do hope that, once the room has been read and the minority of interested people have already clicked on it and responded as they desire, it will quickly fade away.

I have horrible visions of it going down the same non-subtle route as those Numan ads on the telly for erectile disfunction and male-pattern hair loss, where that man with a Big-Brother-type voice just keeps shouting out endless sniggering-schoolboy names for willies or screaming "DESPAIR! DESPAIR! DESPAIR AT YOUR LACK OF HAIR!"

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2022 10:38

Yes!!

As well as the priests who get trapped in the lingerie/'adult' store trying to style it out with "I hear that it provides the most outstanding level of clitoral stimulation of all products available in Ireland!" Grin

BlusteryLake · 07/02/2022 10:39

I agree, I am sick of seeing it. I think there should be the option to hide any of the sponsored threads that are irrelevant to us.

RustyBear · 07/02/2022 10:50

@MsAgnesDiPesto - are you clicking on the correct arrow? It's not the one next to the word 'Talk' on the blue bar, it's the one next to the larger blue-on-white word 'Talk' underneath that, just above where it says Active| I'm On

HorseInTheHouse · 07/02/2022 11:04

How do you think people become parents?!

Well it's not by wanking.

LumpyandBumps · 07/02/2022 11:04

The only advertisement I can see is ‘Grow your own herbs’

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2022 11:07

The only advertisement I can see is ‘Grow your own herbs’

That's probably a euphemism too....
