Not to want "OUTSTANDING CLITORAL STIMULATION" at the top of every page on here?

Yes, Mumsnet has to make money.

Yes, orgasms are great.

But AIBU to be slightly uncomfortable with seeing "Outstanding clitoral stimulation.” Best sex toys from Ann Summers to heat things up this winter at the top of every damn page? Pretty sure threads from the Sex topic don't appear in Active Convos so why is this OK? I don't need to see it every single time. Sometimes I just want to have a quick look for parking threads and CF drama without having to scroll past "Outstanding clitoral stimulation.” Best sex toys from Ann Summers to heat things up this winter. It's unnecessarily explicit.

Someone did complain back in October, but MN never came back with a proper response.

AIBU or should I accept the constant presence of "Outstanding clitoral stimulation.” Best sex toys from Ann Summers to heat things up this winter. ?

Before I hide the thread, can I ask why people hated seeing 'OUTSTANDING CLITORAL STIMULATION' at the top of every page?

Coz I hated it but I don't know why! Confused

Infinitemoon · 07/02/2022 22:20

It has been replaced with something as annoying. Eugh Ann Summers is so naff.

Because it conjured up the image of a couple shaking hands after sex giving each other jolly compliments.

It still feels like MN is missing the point. Keep the sex toys stuff under the sex forum FFS how hard can it be?!

I don’t want little voices on my lap “oh look, it says sex toys up there”. Inappropriate.

Stop ramming sex down our throats. We don’t need your internalised misogyny. Anne Summers is a shit company.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 08/02/2022 10:49

Taking ads from Ann Summers = tacky. Tacky company, tacky associations. Not good for MN’s brand.

Wording of ad = too explicit.

Placing of ad = inappropriate. As others have said, keep it to the ‘adult’ forums, not Active Threads.

Use of sticky article to get round ad blockers = extremely irritating.

All in all, time for a serious rethink MN.

Yes I agree with this.

Also gets around premium membership.

longwayoff · 08/02/2022 10:58

It's paid for content presumably, masquerading as chat or whatever, advertising by the back door. I haven't asked for it to be removed as I assume I'll be ignored.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 08/02/2022 11:04

Oh and who gives a sex toy for Valentines Day!! I mean, how romantic 🤮

This sums it up perfectly for me. I assume the money’s good though.
Viviennemary · 08/02/2022 11:52

Anne Summers. Yuck. Trying to normalize porn.

My ex did … he bought me a “rabbit” and then started texting his mate saying I loved it and asking if his girlfriend liked hers … Did they buy them together or something??

Thank god he’s now an ex

Why is your child who is old enough to read sitting on your lap looking at Mumsnet with you? There are threads with much, much darker words than 'sex' in their titles all over this website. It's for adults. Not kids.
ShittyFingers · 08/02/2022 18:17

If we wanted to talk sex, we’d head to the sex topic. We don’t need it shoved in our faces on here

Lots of people. It's the biggest sales week for companies like Love Honey and AS. Just because you wouldn't like it doesn't mean other people don't. Personally I would find a partner planning a sexy night for us and prioritising my enjoyment very romantic. But then unlike most people on Mumsnet, I don't see sex as a chore which degrades me.

Sex toys aren’t ‘porn’.
SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 08/02/2022 18:40

It seems to have disappeared. Anyone else or just me ?

ghostmouse · 08/02/2022 18:50

MN you’ve missed the point

I don’t particularly want to see it either.

Not because I’m a prude (and who on earth wants a sex toy for Valentine’s Day, how romantic) but because because I find it insensitive (my own reasons)

At least give us an option to hide the thread…

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 08/02/2022 20:04

Oh no, it’s back. It was just me then.

BIWI · 08/02/2022 20:10

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat the sponsored threads are on a sort of loop, so each time you refresh Active Convos, you'll see a slightly different list of them

EatYourVegetables · 08/02/2022 20:38

I do not find it offensive.

Sex toys are not porn; they’re pretty much the opposite. (Other than the fact that both involve sex.)

My issues with porn are that a lot of it is for male pleasure only, commodifying female bodies, leading to distorted views of sex among the young, and, because of the money involved, questionably consensual.

Sex toys for women are tools with which they can explore sexual pleasure without men, often on their own, with no agenda other than their own fun.

However, all this talk of OUTSTANDING CLITORAL STIMULATION in block capitals has put me in the mood now Grin I’ll either whip out something from the Ann Summers drawer or summon DH. Afterwards I might congratulate him by saying “Excellent performance, OUTSTANDING CLITORAL STIMULATION!!” Grin

liveforsummer · 09/02/2022 06:16

@Rosieposie101

Agree! Can't read MN on public transport anymore as I'm a prude and worried someone behind me will see the top thread title and think I'm reading something dodgey 😂😂
Even worse when you have a dc who reads everything over your shoulder and questions it. I know we are supposed to be open about things with our dc but I really can't be bothered after a long day at work to start explaining clitoral stimulation to my 8 year old. Even worse for those at that stage where they are just learning to read, c-l-i-t-o-r-a-l clitoral, what's that mummy? It's also the last thing I want to read about after a long day at work and parenting. Easy info to find if I was so inclined. As is commonly said on here read the room!
liveforsummer · 09/02/2022 06:23

How do you think people become parents?!

Not by way of some sort of pneumatic vibrator from AS that's for sure 😆

There was certainly a Lovehoney involvement in my most recent conception.
BobbyeinArkansas · 10/02/2022 13:38

I have never seen this. I have no idea what the mumsnet algos make of my profile!
