More people spoiled their ballots than votes received by the Psyschedelic Movement

Peregrina · 05/02/2022 10:40

The Psychedelic Movement came second.

There were about twice as many spoilt ballots - so really, none of these came second. What a ringing endorsement.

"Alex Chalk, the solicitor-general, had to be personally convinced by the PMM_ not to quit over partygate on Wednesday: as one of government’s most senior lawyers, he is said by colleagues to be uncomfortable about allegations of illegal activity in No 10." - lifted from Patrick Maguire Red Box in the Times.

I find this interesting and suspect there will be more stories coming out.

@ClaudineClare

Nadir acts as though she wants to punch someone in that interview. So aggressive.
I thought that too, Claudine. What’s with the weirdly pugilistic head-bobbing thing she does? She looks as though she’s all ready to square up to her webcam and deliver a couple of quick jabs.

Utterly bizarre.

longwayoff · 05/02/2022 10:54

I thought she'd started a little early Gin but realise that I am completely mistaken and it cannot be true. Thank you Mr Speaker.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2022 10:56

Lol at this comment

I fear this is the build up to the full Four Seasons Giuliani moment

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2022 11:02

FatFredsFriedEgg That's Rosie Holt out of a job then.

I found myself humming White Flag - "I will go down with this ship."

Think Nadine will be on Strictly?

I love Rosie Holt - but I fear Nadine Dorries and some of the other Tory MPs are just copying her style now.

@BringBackCoffeeCreams

The tory MP who won the by election on Thursday has been on the radio gloating about her 86% majority and how it's a ringing endorsement in Johnson as PM. No mention of the fact that nobody stood against her and only 20% of the electorate turned out to vote.
What a disgrace to the memory and legacy of David Amess. Angry

Has she? Did you hear her or did someone tell you?

I know how easy it is to read something you can imagine to be true because it suits a narrative.

Not that I am saying it's fake news - but it's so easy to want to believe something is true that isn't true.

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2022 13:43

Anna Firth the new MP for southend west admitted that she expected spoilt papers because there were so few candidates up to vote for.
She seemed alright on the ' look East' Local news interview last night to be honest and I'm not a conservative at all , she wasn't gloating and said how sad it was they had to have this by election and how honored she was to win it.
She may have been different during other interviews, but not on this one.

AdamRyan · 05/02/2022 13:56

Really I think the only thing Sunak could do would be to implement some form of wealth tax and cuts at the bottom.
I heard a very wealthy man on the raising talking about how he thought income from investments/trusts was too low and easily avoided, and thought more should be done there. If Sunak said that, based on his experience as an extremely wealthy man, people would love him.
But the conservatives will never do that, so it's just another way they've painted themselves in a corner Grin

FatFredsFriedEgg · 05/02/2022 14:12

Anna Firth, Radio 5 News 10:00 yesterday: "I think that the Conservative Government absolutely can best deliver for local people and I think that the scale of the vote last night confirms that... And of course I believe that the Prime Minister of a Conservative Government is the best person to deliver for the whole country."

thecatfromjapan · 05/02/2022 14:38

Well found, FarFred'sFriedEgg.

thecatfromjapan · 05/02/2022 14:40

Interesting, AdamRyan.

So, any 'positioning' of Sunak would have to be accompanied by policy, not merely at the level of style, rhetoric, narrative?

cakeorwine · 05/02/2022 15:04

I notice that the Telegraph tweeted she won an overwhelming majority in the by election.

I was taking the piss when I said they would be along to celebrate the by-election victory. Just how callous are these people?
OP posts:
Blossomtoes · 05/02/2022 15:15

They’re not just callous, they think we’re stupid.

itsgettingweird · 05/02/2022 16:27

Adding myself.

I was great at following this when I had covid and isolating!

I thought it sounded like she was carefully not saying that Boris Johnson specifically is the best person, but leaving the door open to back some other leader when they come along.
AdamRyan · 05/02/2022 16:48

Huh. My previous post was pretty inarticulate Blush
Yes cat. I think really the only thing he could do to respond to criticism he's super rich/elite/doesn't understand cost of living impact, would be a substantial policy shift to address that.
Otherwise it's just going to be perceived as hot air. And he'll be continually damaged when he spends money on things that are unaffordable to the less wealthy.

longwayoff · 05/02/2022 16:51

the scale of the vote confirms that Grin If you say so.

cakeorwine · 05/02/2022 16:57

I wonder what reaction the Conservative candidate got at the door when campaigning ?
