Maths Disagreement

One person thinks the answer is 165 and the other thinks 67, who is right?

YABU - 165
YANBU - 67

Or what’s the answer if both are wrong?

I'm not sure you can differentiate between the two shapes in grey. One is 10 and one 5.
So bottom sum is
2+3+(3x10) or 2+3+(3x5)
@StrongSunglasses

It isnt just the shapes.
The number on the clock is different.
The number of bananas is different.

You were taught wrong or dont remember. Maths has been the same for many centuries. Multiply first. It will never be 165.
It’s not just me that got 165 so not sure why you’re focusing on me.

You seem very condescending.

I’m not particularly precious about my mathematical ability; I literally just took about 5 seconds to glance at it and quickly get 165, I’m actually meant to be working so I’m not spending significant time or energy analysing the clock faces etc.

Dutchesss · 04/02/2022 14:23

88?

15+15+15
4+4+15
4+3+3
(2+3+3) x 11 = 88

2 because it's 2 o clock, 3 because there are 3 bananas, 11 because there are 11 corners.

I thought it was 38 Confused
Me too!

Aaaargh. There is no correct answer.

Read the thread. It is an attention-seaking gimmick.

summermode · 04/02/2022 14:24

67
3 + 4 + 4x15 = 67 ( math rule: calculate X first, then + or - )

Itsalmostanaccessory · 04/02/2022 14:24

@summermode

67 3 + 4 + 4x15 = 67 ( math rule: calculate X first, then + or - )
Nope.
WaggyWoof · 04/02/2022 14:27

2+3+ (3x11)

Time on the clock is 2 O’clock, 3 bananas in each bunch and 11 vertices in the last shape mix.

The first line shows that a set of 3 shapes equals 15. That means each side is worth 1 Or Each shape is work 5.

The last symbol has 2 shapes, so could be 10. But they have 11 sides altogether, so could be 11.

Cant answer it. 35 or 38 is the closest you can get but cant say for sure which it is.

It is a gimmick. But I do think the answer they would be expecting is 38. Though I agree could also be 35.
SoupDragon · 04/02/2022 14:27

It's 38.

Trying to argue that each completely different shape in the grey shapes is 5 is simply not logical.

BeefSupreme · 04/02/2022 14:28

Why is the black shape different in the last sum?

museumum · 04/02/2022 14:30

That’s sneaky. The grey shape is the sun of the corners.

bongsuhan · 04/02/2022 14:30

"It is a gimmick. But I do think the answer they would be expecting is 38. Though I agree could also be 35."

There is no way of knowing or deducing the value of the different shapes (clock and grey shape) in the last line. The answer could be anything. And this is deliberate, the only expectation is that people argue and generate clicks :)

PizzaPizza56 · 04/02/2022 14:31

It's 38 as others have said.

2 o'clock
3 bananas
Hexagon (6) + pentagon (5) = 11 sides
BODMAS

BeefSupreme · 04/02/2022 14:31

If the black hexagon in the last sum is supposed to have the same value as the other hexagons then the answer is 67.

Cantleave · 04/02/2022 14:33
@Cantleave

The clocks, bunches of bananas and shapes are not the same on the final line of the calculation as they are on the initial 2... The whole long thread is about how that may influence the final calculation.
But the question the OP is asking is what the solution to 3+4+4x15 is?
She has specifically said to presume that the numbers are 3, 4 and 15 and base answer on that, which is 67!

BeefSupreme · 04/02/2022 14:34

Nm the shapes, times and number of bananas is obviously significant.

Probably very true! And the reason I never respond to these things on fb Grin

I'm pleased I'm too old to be asked to help with homework as I have nonidea what BODMAS is. No, thanks, I like it that way.
