Is this a funny joke or am I sensitive ?

Hi all,

I got my Covid Vaccine today and rang my husband on the way home to tell him how it went. When on the phone he made a joke about how he had been crying as now we wouldn’t be able to have children. I then told him that it wasn’t a funny joke and that he had hurt my feelings. Needless to say he didn’t take it well and said he was only making a joke , it’s not his fault that I don’t have a sense of humour Hmm.

So who is being unreasonable ?

It’s not even a joke it’s some weird conspiracy theory nonsense, does he believe that? Has he had his jab? Why are you only having it now?

AlexandraEiffel · 03/02/2022 21:05

Neither of you, perhaps you find different things funny? Unless there's a big back story about infertility...

Icantremembermyusername · 03/02/2022 21:06

Only ever a joke if every one is laughing!

Hugasauras · 03/02/2022 21:09

Assuming he isn't an anti-vax, sounds like he was just making fun of people who believe that. Like you might say 'Oh no, now Bill Gates will be able to track you!'

Has he had his vaccines?

That would be my interpretation. It's not particularly funny, but it's not exactly awful either.
PossiblyDreaming · 03/02/2022 21:21

It’s not very funny but it’s not something to get upset about either 🤷‍♀️

CrinklyCraggy · 03/02/2022 21:22

It's not very funny, but presumably he's laughing at the people who believe that stuff not at you.

Same.
XenoBitch · 03/02/2022 21:25

When my friends/family got jabbed, I did say to a few that Bill Gates could now track them, or I asked if their internet was faster. I was intending it as a piss take out the conspiracy theorists.

TheVanguardSix · 03/02/2022 21:29

I think he's just making a throwaway conspiracy theory joke. It really isn't a big deal... BUT if there are sensitivities around the issue of having children, then it is a terrible joke, a bit like that episode of Sex and the City where Trey thinks he's being very funny bringing home a cardboard cutout baby to his longing-to-get-pregnant-but-not-getting-pregnant wife, Charlotte.

BellatricksStrange · 03/02/2022 21:34

Get over yourself. Unless there is some massive backstory with difficulties TTC you were not being very nice.

RedHelenB · 03/02/2022 21:35

Yabu.

BoredZelda · 03/02/2022 21:36

When I had mine my husband joked about our 5g reception being much better.

DontWantTheRivalry · 03/02/2022 21:37

Why would you take offence to that?!

Unless there is a backstory based on fertility concerns then you’ve hugely overreacted.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 03/02/2022 21:38

The joke is at the expense of anti vaxxers who are adamant that getting your Covid jab will make you infertile. He's ridiculing their view point. It's not at your expense nothing to be upset by.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/02/2022 21:38

It is a pisstake about conspiracy theories. My DH made similar jokes about his 5g

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/02/2022 21:39

You are. Lighten up. And apologise.

ddl1 · 03/02/2022 23:39

Unless he's known to be anti-vax, or unless you have real fertility worries, I don't see anything wrong with the joke. When I had mine, I had a few jokes on the lines of 'so now you'll be getting 5g!' It's just making fun of the conspiracy theorists.

VainAbigail · 04/02/2022 00:27

You told him he’d hurt your feelings??

Oh dear life.

AtrociousCircumstance · 04/02/2022 00:30

There’s a world of difference between making jokes about 5G, and about fertility issues.

5G is not a real problem. But anyone can experience fertility issues. It’s a sensitive topic. I think he was clumsy.

^ this.

He’s making fun of anti-vaxxers, not you. I have no clue why this would hurt your feelings unless you are experiencing fertility issues (which would be a total drip feed given its relevance to the thread).

I thought he was making a joke at the conspiracy.
KrisAkabusi · 04/02/2022 00:46

It's not particularly funny, but I can't see how it would hurt your feelings.

Needdoughnuts · 04/02/2022 00:46

You might have to explain the hurt feelings to me.Confused

Shamoo · 04/02/2022 00:46

I think you need to explain why it hurt your feelings OP, as on the face of it there is nothing obvious that would upset you?
