Is this a funny joke or am I sensitive ?

Hi all,

I got my Covid Vaccine today and rang my husband on the way home to tell him how it went. When on the phone he made a joke about how he had been crying as now we wouldn’t be able to have children. I then told him that it wasn’t a funny joke and that he had hurt my feelings. Needless to say he didn’t take it well and said he was only making a joke , it’s not his fault that I don’t have a sense of humour Hmm.

So who is being unreasonable ?

Drip feed please.

Superhanz · 04/02/2022 01:19

His joke wasn't funny but I don't understand why you were upset unless you're actually struggling with infertility. If that's the case it was in poor taste.

ADisgruntledPelican · 04/02/2022 01:25

YABU. It was a joke that wasn't even directed at you.

KitchenTowel · 04/02/2022 01:28

It's not very funny but it isn't offensive either (except if special circumstances apply that make it offensive...like infertility). I'd assume he's making fun of anti vaxxers and maybe I'm mean but they are one group that deserve to be made fun of.

Iwannabewherethepeopleare · 04/02/2022 01:59

It’s not hilarious but it’s just a joke

Blessex · 04/02/2022 02:40

He is laughing at the ridiculous. You should have laughed back. End of.

PinkSyCo · 04/02/2022 02:42

You rang your husband to tell him how your Covid vaccination went? Your life sounds riveting.

BoredZelda · 04/02/2022 07:48

There’s a world of difference between making jokes about 5G, and about fertility issues.

There really isn’t.

5G is not a real problem. But anyone can experience fertility issues. It’s a sensitive topic. I think he was clumsy.

It isn’t a sensitive topic for me and OP gave no suggestion in the OP that it was for her.

BoredZelda · 04/02/2022 07:49

You rang your husband to tell him how your Covid vaccination went? Your life sounds riveting.

You don’t talk with people close to you, in the day about things you are doing? Your life sounds sad and lonely.

phishy · 04/02/2022 07:54

Most people had their first vaccine months ago so he was probably wondering what all the fuss about and made a crappy joke.

steppemum · 04/02/2022 07:57

my dd is autistic, she had hers and came home and said now she will be super autistic.
She thought is was hysterical.
it was a joke on the nonsense that autism is caused by vaccines.

Sounds like your husband did the same

ChittyBangs · 04/02/2022 07:59

@JurgensCakeBabyJesus

The joke is at the expense of anti vaxxers who are adamant that getting your Covid jab will make you infertile. He's ridiculing their view point. It's not at your expense nothing to be upset by.
Yeah I would of took it this way
HPLikecraft · 04/02/2022 08:07

How on earth could that 'hurt your feelings'?

statetrooperstacey · 04/02/2022 08:23

He sounds funny and you sound like you were looking for a fight .

Meandthesky · 04/02/2022 08:32

It’s not particularly funny but unless there’s a backstory of fertility issues YABU

It’s just a joke at the expense of anti vax conspiracy bullshit

MistyGreenAndBlue · 04/02/2022 10:04

Wait! Do YOU believe it could make you infertile?
Was he making fun of YOU?
Otherwise I'm a bit baffled

WalkingOnTheCracks · 04/02/2022 10:10

When I had mine, I mentioned it to a friend on Whatsapp and he said, "Yeah, I already knew that. It was communicated through the implanted microchip network."

Same gag, essentially. I think you're being unreasonable.

Toastyteacakes · 04/02/2022 10:13

To give context he is extremely anti-vaccination . I have gotten both of my vaccinations now against his wishes. He still isn’t speaking to me as he truly believes that I have ruined our chances of having children now.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/02/2022 10:15

He's just been an arse.

CatSpeakForDummies · 04/02/2022 10:18

That changes everything, I thought he was mocking anti-vaxxers, but if he is one it isn't a joke at all, is it? It's emotional manipulation and stupidity mixed together. Turning on you for not having a sense of humour is typical of nasty people wanting to get digs in.

Do you want to have children with him?

CatSpeakForDummies · 04/02/2022 10:19

He's ruined the chance of you having children together TBH as surely you aren't exactly wanting to jump into bed with a petulant and stupid man-baby.

AlexissFreeenncch · 04/02/2022 10:20

I would say he’s making fun of anti vaxxers and their crazy conspiracy nonsense so YABU!

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 04/02/2022 10:21

I put YABU as you said it was a joke and daft anti vax jokes after vaccination are normal. However from your update it isn't a joke at all, he's being a complete dick and YANBU.

AlexissFreeenncch · 04/02/2022 10:22

Ah ok well then it wasn’t even a joke then so it wasn’t meant to be funny - he’s just an idiot and he believes what he said. Maybe you should joke back no kids were happening anyway as I wouldn’t get pregnant with a total twit. I hope you know you have done nothing wrong and there is no link between fertility (actual fertility not periods) and the vaccine. Well done standing up to him on this.

Well if it wasn't a joke and he really believes it, that puts a completely different spin on your opening post.

You should have put that in your OP. Bit of a drip feed.
