Really ‘I share your pain’! Who is kidding and he knows full well we know how rich they are. His wife is worth 174 million and he is worth a few million himself. This government is disgusting. Slow clap for voting for a bunch of criminals

Why oops?

justasking111 · 04/02/2022 15:07

I don't care how rich a politician is there's plenty of millionaires in all parties. His hiding away for the last two months the sneaky angling for the PM crown, now that's nauseating.

Poetrypatty · 04/02/2022 15:41

Keir Starmer went to a state school which turned into a grammar while he was there iirc. Then he went to Leeds Uni. He's from a working class background. So if he's made money then fine by me, I'm sure he'd happily pay more tax.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 04/02/2022 15:49

I want people in charge of huge amounts of public money to be on high salaries -- if you put them on salaries that don't seem handsome, they may well be very tempted to abuse their position & poach some of that public money by using clever accounting and insider knowledge.

But the ones on huge salaries are on the fiddle too.

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2022 15:56

I've no doubt that all the MPs lords and ladies and so on are rich.
Maybe not as rich as the chancellor is , but money isn't a worry for them.
What are the answers though ?
If we were able to kick out all the ones worth over a million , it would be empty I'm sure.
I know people from very humble council house working class backgrounds who are now worth a fortune from inheritances from high house prices where I live , it's all unearned wealth. Not everyone is struggling who I know , but they can pay the bills are working and so on. A few are going into the buy to let business to secure some money for their own children for the future.
It will be years before we have a PM who is genuinely poor I suppose. It's never happened in recent history ( as far as I know ?) my political history is a bit hazy.
So called ' Working class ' Conservatives will never vote Labour. They have given them too much via home ownership from selling off council homes and inheritances and trust them with the economy. Even if they are given the facts and figures that this isn't actually that true , they still believe it.

CorrBlimeyGG · 04/02/2022 15:57

@Pyewhacket What is the methodology used by 'Idol Net Worth' to determine a person's wealth? It's not a site I'm familiar with, is it a respected authority on such matters?

It is impossible to overstate the greed that wealth engenders.
Ladybyrd · 04/02/2022 16:12

*According to Idol Net Worth, Keir Starmer, the grammar school/Oxford Graduate is worth £7.7million.

This is £6.3million more than the current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

...oops !.*

Maybe Boris Johnson's just got better at hiding his wealth after his last divorce. £1.4 million my arse.

NiceShrubbery · 04/02/2022 16:22

Put them on reasonably high salaries, ok, but no second-third-fourth jobs and no hedge funds & shareholdings or offshore malarkey. Full disclosure. Or they can stay in the private sector where they belong.

Blossomtoes · 04/02/2022 16:25

This with bells on. The Beckhams are worth £355 million, it didn’t stop her from claiming £250k in furlough payments. She only rescinded the claim in the face of widespread public outrage.

Abitofalark · 04/02/2022 16:48

It reminds me of the Daily Mail, telling us how much he or his wife, are worth, though the figures do vary - oops! - and how much are the 12 houses worth? I think we should be told.

It's nauseating when rich people tell you they feel it. They don't. How can they know life with the constant worry and stress of trying to pay the bills when you just don't earn enough? And besides how they claim to feel, I am more worried about the competence of a person who has overseen billions going to fraud (compare the figures with Germany with its pandemic relief scheme - a fraction of ours) and why he is suddenly seen by the media and chattering classes as a viable prospect for PM. I notice people have said he is young. How old? But he's probably too inexperienced, as well as incompetent with handling our money.

There's a clique around him which includes the Sunaks' best pals Allegra Stratton and her husband and some of those who left No 10 when they saw which way the wind was blowing - pretending it's for high-minded reasons. I don't relish the prospect that one clique should replace another.

Another aspect besides fraud and negligently splashing our money around is the historical stealth taxing on top of these new ones, notably VAT that was put up to 20% to deal with the financial crisis of 2008. Why has that never come down even though that event is 14 years behind us? Stamp duty is another dubious one, and static thresholds for various taxes including income and inheritance tax and I'm there are others. I don't hear anyone questioning those things. And I despair at the state of our political parties, their incompetence and lack of accountability.

Peregrina · 04/02/2022 20:28

No they can't understand. Even when they do a stunt like try to live in a rented room on a week;s Benefits, and find it difficult, they know it's only going to be for a week.

They haven't got the uncertainty of never knowing if or when they will get out of the situation and have a better life.

ButterMeTimbers · 04/02/2022 20:31

But still you'll never get it right
'Cause when you're laid in bed at night
Watching roaches climb the wall
If you called your dad he could stop it all, yeah

I love this song !!
StoneofDestiny · 04/02/2022 21:28

This is Sunak and his Tory Pals in the House of Commons just after telling us we are having the worst cost of living crisis in 30 years. Aye right - he shares our pain.

Nauseating Sunak
StoneofDestiny · 04/02/2022 21:33

I couldn't care less how much wealth any of them have as long as it was earned honestly.
I do care if their policies show they understand that the majority of people are not even close to being millionaires and are never likely to be, and that there is an increasing number of people, however hard they work, will never have a financial safety net to support them when bills increase but wages do not.

eastegg · 04/02/2022 21:57

@Im2022

What he said today about how he wouldn’t have said what Boris did really pissed me off. He was nodding his head, and braying like a donkey in support of the dick head a few days ago when he accused Starmer. How can he turn around and say he wouldn’t have done that? Fuck off you disgusting rich prick.
Yep, agree. He’s trying to walk a tightrope, the hypocritical weasel, between not being disloyal to Johnson while not agreeing with Johnson’s indefensible appalingness. It’s impossible really, but he’ll keep at it until Johnson goes and then pretend he’s been the nice guy we should trust.

We mustn’t forget, when the time comes, that RS did that braying while BJ was lying about Starmer, and also that he has denied knowing about the parties which is obviously a complete lie. He’s no better, and we mustn’t, when BJ’s gone and they start spouting about learning lessons, forget that.

Easy for me because I never vote Tory anyway.

Alexandra2001 · 04/02/2022 22:08

If Sunak was also at these parties, he's finished, all of em will be.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 22:19

will never have a financial safety net to support them when bills increase but wages do not.

They also need to reverse Blair's war on the disabled (continued by all of his successors - Brown, Cameron, May, Johnson) and reinstate the safety net for some of society's most vulnerable - those too ill or disabled to earn a wage.

greenlynx · 04/02/2022 23:31

I’m ok with him being rich, good for him. What I want from him is understanding of the situation and fair measures to resolve the crisis. For this he needs to tax his own dividends ( and the likes of him) not salaries of nurses and teachers.
His offer re: heating is a joke. To lend us £200 which we need then to pay back? Was he deluded? My DH calculated that our energy bill would go up by £1000 a year, we use mainly gas and price of gas goes up by 75%. And there are lots of other basic costs that go up as well.
When Sunak came out yesterday for the press conference he smiled, sort of happy American style smile. It felt very wrong and insulting.
He memorized certain set of figures and sentences and just produced them quite quickly emphasizing that we should be happy with the support the government was offering. It felt plain rude.

I don’t think he understands what people are going through.

ilovesooty · 04/02/2022 23:37

Just been on the news that the police apparently have a picture of Sunak at the birthday party, though he wasn't drinking.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 23:41

Out of interest. Was Cummings at any of these parties?

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 23:43

@ilovesooty

Just been on the news that the police apparently have a picture of Sunak at the birthday party, though he wasn't drinking.
Perhaps he turned up to tell them all off for being noisy neighbours. Someone was probably singing Abba badly.

Wonder if Theresa May popped by to do her Dancing Queen jig?

ilovesooty · 04/02/2022 23:45

He was apparently photographed chatting and holding a can of soft drink so it doesn't sound as though he was in and out.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 23:46

Naughty!
