Really ‘I share your pain’! Who is kidding and he knows full well we know how rich they are. His wife is worth 174 million and he is worth a few million himself. This government is disgusting. Slow clap for voting for a bunch of criminals

Anyone who is wealthy with multimillions is always going to be there on the back of other peoples hard work and of inequality, be that through investments they have in companies or whatever. People don't live in a vacuum. The fact is, the fat cats getting fatter is going to mean that the poorest get poorer. And so while I don't begrudge people being very rich, they should be paying decent taxes and doing their bit if they want to live in an equal society. Lots don't seem to give a shit, so long as they themselves are okay.

Poetrypatty · 04/02/2022 13:35

It'll take a few more blows to sink the bugger, but I'd be amazed if he makes it in post to the next schedulled General Election

Talk today was they want to get rid of the PM after May, but that's an awful long time for more of this shitshow. The worry is he could still win a vote of no confidence and then have another year to destroy the Tories/the country.

BeefSupreme · 04/02/2022 13:36

@the80sweregreat

Nope, I bet he has an awful temper and always gets his own way all the time Nobody needs twelve houses, I think that this winds me up more than anything else about him and it's not envy, just the greed of having all this whilst he is trying to know how normal people actually live day to day and it must be impossible for him to do this because he can't have the first clue.
12 houses?! Fucking hell.
IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 04/02/2022 13:40

I have endured Boris and his waffle while remaining relatively calm. BUT yesterday Sunak and his smarmy grin and his 'I understand your pain' bollocks, when he clearly hasn't got a clue and is doing eff all to mitigate the catastrophe that we are already feeling but which is going to get far, far worse - made me absolutely incandescent with rage. We all suffer, many of us can't even fathom HOW we will pay these new amounts - as he smiles and carries on with his NI rise and maintaining of VAT on energy. A £200 LOAN (which he keeps calling an 'energy rebate') and a £150 council tax rebate for SOME households. Utterly pathetic. While he has millions in the bank.

If this is his lead-up to a leadership challenge, he can fcck right off.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 13:49

Labour won't win an election with Sir KS in charge. This is just my opinion though but it's a long way off yet

I think it's very possible. But not with that defeatist attitude - which I think Keir has had to deal with since the start - from media and public.

He might end up a let down. And there's definitely some areas he needs to work on - some tweaking of policies, and most definitely his party needs to get behind him.

But I think he's still got potential. If people - including his own MPs gave him a chance.

He hasn't been given a fair go yet. If, after that he disappoints, then would be the time to do a Tory Party style dethroning.

Key things he needs to do.

  • He needs to turn away from the Conservatives current schtick of stoking regional division. That is a lazy distraction from genuinely good policies. There is poverty in every part of the country - including places incorrectly perceived as rich only, eg. The London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has multi million plus mansions (often left empty year round by foreign investors)...but it also the borough of Grenfell. There is an enormous amount of deprivation in London (which is the epicentre of the public health housing and homelessness emergency).
  • Distance himself from the toxic legacy of Blair - including Blair's war on the disabled (which has sadly been continued by every one of Blair's successors - Brown, Cameron, May, and Johnson - so far). The mark of a civilised society is how it treats it most vulnerable - but also Labour profess to caring about the vulnerable, and therefore need to prove it.

He does the above, and tones down the voter turning off militantism seem from some of his MPs - and I'd say him winning an election is very plausible.

@CMZ2018

Can’t do right for doing wrong can he? What do you want him to say? ‘I am considerably richer than yow’ or should he move into a council house in some shit hole estate and live on pot noodles before you’re happy?
No, just sell his investment in Theleme/Moderna and decide to be a public servant instead of the umpteenth profiteer making decisions that will hurt us not him. Fucking sick of these people.
SafeMove · 04/02/2022 13:56

These issues of heat or eat have been going on for pushing a decade now. I was delivering food parcels and trying to get local assistance fund utility top ups for children on my case load as far back as 2013. I was enraged by it then, particularly the inequality gap, and got called a 'bleeding heart, do gooder, loony lefty' more times than I care to remember. It is actually really heartening to see people getting annoyed about this now and starting to realise how unfair active political policy can be. I am hoping some good can come out of it so that inequality gap closes and people like Rishi Sunak are forced to acknowledge it.

For those paying attention at the back, the plan back in 2019 was to dump May, get some useful idiot to take over to be the scapegoat for everything going wrong with Brexit, and then have a coronation for Boris as the saviour.

However, even the Tories couldn't find a bigger idiot than Johnson who let his impatience (and ego) get the better of him and decided he'd risk it.

They are now in the unenviable position of having to dump Johnson, but keep the pain.

"BUT I have a friend who knows him well, and says he is actually a very nice kind generous man"

I know people who work with him and have worked with him. They all say the same and they like and respect him.

I think he's simply clueless about how poorer people struggle and live. He's never been in that position and never will be.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 14:04

Not all conservatives are 'bad '

This is true. There's good and bad on both sides of the political divide.

The late Sir David Amess for example, whilst holding views that not everyone would agree with, was a genuinely decent and principled man of integrity - somebody who did seem to care about the struggles of his constituents and do his best to help.

Completely agree.

I want people in charge of huge amounts of public money to be on high salaries -- if you put them on salaries that don't seem handsome, they may well be very tempted to abuse their position & poach some of that public money by using clever accounting and insider knowledge.

Be careful what you wish for.

If I were advising Johnson I'd tell him to resign now, let someone else (Rishi) take blame for economic chaos to come, and then BJ offer to rescue things with electorate in 2024. This is blindingly obvious way to proceed. As things are, BJ is lingering like a terrible smell. Tories will be very averse to let him near power again. He could have resigned last week & rehabilitated himself in 2024+.

DuchessOfDodo · 04/02/2022 14:08

It's absolutely true that there are good Tories. The challenge is that Johnson kicked many of them out because they would have held him to account. He promoted cronies and now all he has is a gang of thieves at the helm. Who will stab him in the back as soon as they feel it is safe to do so.

For some (ahem, Nadine) it will never be safe because there surely cannot be anyone else who would give them the time of day.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 14:08

This is why it's definitely too soon for him to be Prime Minister.

Who knows. Perhaps he'll never open his eyes and change, but it's not impossible. Particularly if the above is true.

He's still young and politically inexperienced.

If he wants the job of Prime Minister (and wants to win an election, rather than do a Gordon Brown) he needs to take more time to listen, learn, develop, and grow.

InnaSpace · 04/02/2022 14:08

He's a duplicitous cunt and he can shove his 200 quid. I'd rather owe money to a loan shark than to him and his mates. At least a loan shark will only beat you up and nick all your stuff. As opposed to fucking you up the arse while emoting at you.

It’s one of those threads where people pop In To tell us how financially lucky they are and how the fuel crisis won’t affect them.
Round of applause. 👏

It won’t affect me much either, but can’t imagine boasting of this online whilst posturing about those ‘poor, poor people’.

NiceShrubbery · 04/02/2022 14:16

To all the posters harping on about nice Tories.

How is that relevant? Being nice and principled obviously clouds your judgement and makes you elect the most useless double-crossing liars in the entire party. Repeatedly.

So can we have unremarkable, sensible and rational politicians please. You can go and fangirl people on instagram if that's your thing.

But that's because you don't secretly (or no so secretly) blame the poor for being poor.

Which is a hallmark - indeed it's the hallmark of Tory politics.

And for all the "nice" Tories I hear about, you really can't be that nice if you chose to side with such folk.

DuncinToffee · 04/02/2022 14:29

It's easy to find out how nice Tories are by looking at their voting records.

May I suggest the free school meals one is good one to start with.

There is a world of difference between Tory MPs and the damage they can do and Tory camp followers voters and their odd fetishes around other peoples lives ...

The clues were all there. Remember how Arthur Daley idolised Mrs Thatcher ?

That's Arthur Daley, well known petty criminal. Even in the 80s it made perfect sense that someone with moveable morals and a rather idiosyncratic view of the law would be a natural tory than socialist.

SafeMove · 04/02/2022 14:47

The Tory party are not all they seem. I remember in the leaders debate when Rory Stewart was leaning forward on his stool explaining something complicated, Boris Johnson made a (not at all funny) quip about the way he couldn't sit on a stool properly. They went on to choose him as their leader FFS. They all knew Johnson was a sack of shit but they went with the populist decision anyway because... well multitudes of reasons.

Never trust a Tory.

DGRossetti · 04/02/2022 14:50

What is Toryism but organised spivvery? … No amount of cajolery can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party … So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.

among many other truly prescient observations ...

Pyewhacket · 04/02/2022 14:54

According to Idol Net Worth, Keir Starmer, the grammar school/Oxford Graduate is worth £7.7million.

This is £6.3million more than the current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

...oops !.
