Obviously he's running scared from his own side as well and Labour and the excellent contribution from Ian Blackford - no doubt Dennis Skinner would have done the same if still an MP.

However, there was no need for Johnson to stoop to the level of more lies - this time trying smear Kier Starmer with untrue allegations about Jimmy Savile.

I thought three Labour MPs were jailed for fraud in the expenses scandal?

Yes, they were rightly jailed. They didn't have the Labour Party coming out and stoutly claiming that they did nothing wrong, they didn't know about the expenses they were claiming, they didn't know it was against the law, it was all the cut and thrust of politics - and all the other disgraceful excuses we've heard spewing out of Conservative spokesmen's mouths in the last few weeks.

Is that really an argument you want to pursue, @Clavinova?

Blossomtoes · 03/02/2022 18:22

She conveniently forgot the two Tories. It used to be called being economical with the truth.

Did the Labour party try and change the rules retrospectively so those MPs weren't jailed?

I leave the thread to make tea, and then all of a sudden loads of posts have disappeared. Did someone get bored of all the personal attacks that had no basis?

DePfeffoff · 03/02/2022 18:30

@JaniieJones

'I was making a point about his responsibility for the organisation as a whole. And I think people can see that.'

Exactly. The buck stops with the boss as we've heard ad nauseam of late.

Except we know, and he knows, that he was making a point about Starmer personally, to try to draw a parallel with his own personal position.
Alexandra2001 · 03/02/2022 18:34

ah! posters will divert! now labour and the 12 year old expenses scandal....

Two key aides have resigned from Bozo's top team, Sunak wont back him... its an utter mess in Tory Towers and thats before we get onto that Sunak wont tax oil companies a little extra but will tax care workers and nurses more (plus anyone else who pays NI or has a student loan) and unbelievably is going to give everyone £200 regardless of income and even more incredibly, £150 of their Council tax... and we all voted Bozo because Corbyn would give us all free fibre broadband !!!

Needs targeted help, i don't need any of this and the majority of the country don't either.

myrtleWilson · 03/02/2022 18:35

An actual male person in Boris' government/office has also resigned tonight (but apparently always intended to do so after 2 years in post- obvs) breaking that run of women doing the right thing...

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 03/02/2022 18:38

Are there no depths to which his defenders won't sink?

Apparently not.

And now Jack Doyle - Boris’s director of communications has quit. Didn’t Dominic Cummings accuse him of briefing the press that Cummings had been responsible for the leaking of text messages between Boris and James Dyson ?

DePfeffoff · 03/02/2022 18:39

@JaniieJones

Just report it then Defeff or else how will mnhq know?!
Looks like someone else did the job for me.

If I were responsible for Tory election strategy, I think I would be writing my resignation out right now. Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to put up council tax at the same time as fuel tax rises, all a month before the local elections?

...and if BJ had done that in December, come clean, accepted that 18 or 20 parties/gatherings during LD (when they were illegal) was totally wrong and against the law, handed himself to the Police to accept their decision on whether to investigate or not - then i for one, would have accepted this.

BUT he didn't, he lied & twisted & in the end, he found out the meaning of "Oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive"

So now he can expect no Christian Forgiveness.

Rosscameasdoody · 03/02/2022 18:45

@Blossomtoes

Who else has been quiet or is distancing themselves? Patel, Truss (off sick with Covid apparently.)?

Basically the entire cabinet apart from Dorries.

Think it was Nadine Dorries who was photographed gazing at Boris in parliament. Obviously in thrall.

Can you imagine trying to campaign for a local Tory candidate in the upcoming elections?

Actually thinking about it, I think going out and doing some door knocking for the Tories just to see quite how angry people are might be quite enjoyable.

Rosscameasdoody · 03/02/2022 18:53

@ClaudineClare

Who is Cressenda Dick?😃

Lockedoorsopen you should be careful, your post is veering into slander.

I wondered about Cressenda Dick. Wasn’t sure if it was a person or a medical condition to be honest !!
Alexandra2001 · 03/02/2022 18:53

Yes our local MP Sheryll Murray is getting a hammering for pretty much anything atm

user1471453601 · 03/02/2022 18:58

Anyone who seeks to use the pain and distress of children to score a cheap political point, is beyond my contempt. Way, way below it.

How on earth those people who were Saviles victims felt when they heard it is past my comprehension.

Just why would any one want to heap further distress on theses people?

Alexandra2001 · 03/02/2022 19:03

@user1471453601

Quite, its beyond indefensible, someone close to me was abused as a child, its extremely traumatic and in my friends case, the abuser died before trial and all they want to do is forget about.

As i said a while back, decent Tories shouldn't accept this and many have not... as for the rest, well they will be sullied by BJ's behavior.

StoneofDestiny · 03/02/2022 19:40

What did the marvellous Boris say about historic child abuse investigations?

He said it was 'spaffing money up the wall'. So that's how much he cares about abused children

Yes, absolutely

jgw1 · 03/02/2022 20:46
@jgw1 - have you not had your email invite to the leaving party - it’s in Boris’s flat, make sure you call in at Tesco’s for some drinks to bring with you!
Heck there are so many celebrations that those losers are leaving tonight that is hard to know which one to go to.

Peregrina · 03/02/2022 21:03

The sycophantic Tories are trying to spin this as Johnson getting to grips with the clear out.

I believe the Scottish expression is Aye, right.

Ah good, we can look forward to hearing that when they come back on shift here.
Blossomtoes · 03/02/2022 21:20

Amazing how they only work 9 to 5, you’d think they’d have a shift system going.

It was odd today, normally Clav is on until 9pm, but was in much earlier and then left. Perhaps they hadn't been briefed that Boris was going to u-turn.

Well, times are hard. Maybe the Tories are having to make cutbacks.
