It interests me that it's the Telegraph reporting this. Must have decided that they want someone else.

Blossomtoes · 01/02/2022 22:04

@CSWife

Sorry *@Blossomtoes* I thought that was the reporting. Completely understand about the copy paste.
No worries. I’m glad Dancin could fill in the gaps.

Yes they want Rishi Twelve Homes Sunak.
Peregrina · 01/02/2022 22:25

Not sure whether it's the Telegraph which wants Mr Twelve Homes

ClaudineClare · 01/02/2022 22:28

Is Gove the Telegraph's man? He has been pretty quiet throughout the whole debacle.

Tealightsandd · 01/02/2022 22:33

Ah. So perhaps someone else then!

Sunak is too young and inexperienced regardless of anything else tbh.

Thinking about it, if they want the non Eton and from working class background, Gove fits that category. The new John Major?
TokyoSushi · 01/02/2022 22:44

Interestingly I do a temporary job on polling day and electoral services were in touch updating their records today. So they must be gently prepping for something in the background (not suggesting there's any specific intelligence, but probably a good idea to be prepared)

That will be in preparation for the May elections I would have thought?

Local elections?
Peregrina · 01/02/2022 23:54

I wouldn't have thought Gove was from a working class background. Very solidly middle class, I would say.

Didn't his adoptive father own fish processing business?Gove then went to an Independent Secondary School.

littledrummergirl · 01/02/2022 23:54

None of those were parties though were they. Sue Gray's report didn't say they were parties. Nothing wrong with a few people having some refreshments with their work colleagues.

Bollocks. At that time gatherings were prevented, work canteens were closed and people were eating at their desks to avoid mixing.

If gatherings were OK then why not just come out and say that they happened, that they were there. The lying, side stepping and rewriting of history is pathetic. Government officials telling me that questioning authority is not a priority, that I should do as I'm told like a good little person and let the big people do what the fuck they like is taking the piss and telling me that I am incapable of basic comprehensive skills because they don't like that I haven't gone along with the gas lighting is beyond the pale.
The sly, deceitful language and deliberate usage of abhorrent untruths which they will not repeat in a place where they could be challenged is crass, underhand and disgraceful behaviour.
The bloody cabinet need to go.

[quote Clavinova]Weakest economical recovery from Covid in the G7, sadly

25 Jan 2022

(Bloomberg) -- Britain will be the fastest growing major industrial economy for a second consecutive year in 2022, the International Monetary Fund said. The Washington-based institution expects 4.7% growth in the U.K. this year after a 7.2% expansion in 2021, putting it at the top of the growth table in the Group of Seven nations for two consecutive years.

OECD Economic Outlook

The report comes from the IMF who I think can be taken to know what they're talking about.

Fast growth doesn't necessarily mean that a country is doing best economically. The rate of change is different from the absolute position. It's like someone who is running faster than anyone else on the track, but is still way behind the nearest runner because he spent the first part of the race running in the wrong direction. Unsurprisingly, when you have a lying government they don't like to publicise the absolute position.

DePfeffoff · 02/02/2022 00:08

Not this argument again. It's irrelevant whether they were parties or not. Indoor gatherings were not allowed unless reasonably necessary for work purposes. Having a raucous leaving do manifestly isn't necessary for work purposes.

I am sure our Great Leader will be working hard on the details of delivering the benefits of the Brexit victory just as soon as ..... (complete the sentence as you think fit).

itsgettingweird · 02/02/2022 05:28

If Boris out as much time into his job as PM as he does into researching smear retorts and practicing his pantomime script for PMQs he could probably be quite good at the job!

'Express and 'Mail leading on PPE waste and loans fraud - now i really would not expect them to be quite so forward in criticising the Party of Economic Competence

As people get hit for energy costs, makes you wonder how much difference £12 billion would make to the situation?

borntobequiet · 02/02/2022 06:35

Those Tory MPs prevaricating, not sending in letters and therefore tacitly supporting BJ aren’t doing themselves any favours.

Yes, jgw1 does a nice line in trotting out the arguments in support of BJ to good comic effect.

Was discussing the current invisibility of Gove with family yesterday evening. Cummings was originally Gove’s man, remember.

Piggywaspushed · 02/02/2022 06:51

Sorry, but as a Scot, the idea of Gove with his plummy Scottish RP, private school education and Oxford degree being working class tickled me.

He was certainly born under straitened circumstances but his upbringing was not at all working class. No idea why anyone would think that.

Will be interesting to see if Starmer asks something about courts and crime this week in PMQs. I feel sure that there is an intelligent way of using Johnson's offensive comments against him to raise the gross underfunding of the criminal justice system.
TokyoSushi · 02/02/2022 07:13

Oh sorry, just to clarify we're in a 'no elections in May' area!

It was after 9pm so Clav and friends were off shift, so I thought I had better reply on their behalf.
