That was higher than economists' expectations and meant the economy was 0.7% larger than in February 2020

What effect do you think the cost of living crisis will have on economic growth in 2022?

derxa · 01/02/2022 20:53

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque

We’re fastest growing because we fell so far and fast due to covid and brexit - hardly something to boast about
Are you an economist?
cakeorwine · 01/02/2022 20:54

(I bet you can't Google that)

Vaccine rollout has stalled now.
As has the booster campaign.

So Johnson is going to have to change his tune on what he normally comes out with.

Alexandra2001, Corbyn obviously

One of the Red WallThickosTories has put forward the analogy of breaking covid rules being akin to parking offences.

twitter.com/Peston/status/1488582435910602755?s=20&t=p5mD5TXQ96cqtnSRDtNDhA

Where have we heard that line being trotted out before?🤷‍♀️

They are actually quite similar. You can get a £17,000 fine for parking outside the wrong hairdressers in Bradford apparently.
AuxArmesCitoyens · 01/02/2022 21:07

There was an absolute blistering investigation into PPE procurement in Private Eye a few issues ago. Fly by night businessmen making profits in the tens of millions overnight on the backs of healthcare workers. Markups of 65% on essential PPE. I honestly don't know how people like that can look themselves in the mirror. Podcast version here www.private-eye.co.uk/podcast/65

talk about how BJ et al have allowed the Met to continue to spiral downwards...perhaps questions need to asked as to why Dicks contract was renewed? or is that obvious...

You sound like Ed Davey - Sir Nicholas Soames phoned LBC on Sunday after Ed Davey's appearance - he said Davey was playing "infantile politics" with his comments and tweets about the Met and No 10.

ha ha infantile says the poster who adds the Sir into Soames address but removes it from Davey's ...

But on the substance.. why would anyone renew Dicks contract? she is a terrible commissioner, with a string of awful decisions behind her, not least the Sarah Everard vigil.

Its not unreasonable question to ask about why Patel did this, when, at the same time, seems only criticises Dick/the Met.

Are you an economist?

Don't need to be, it is a matter of record the UK took one of the biggest economic hits as we locked down later and so therefore for longer than comparable countries.

So yes we have a slightly higher GDP growth rate than other countries, its also true we are starting from a lower point.

cakeorwine · 01/02/2022 21:15

I wonder what would have happened if the Cabinet Secretary had just investigated the 2 parties rather than Johnson having to get Sue Grey to investigate?

Would the other parties have been investigated?
Johnson had to be dragged kicking and screaming to ensure that Sue Grey had the chance to investigate any alleged party.

Notonthestairs · 01/02/2022 21:16

Telegraph reporting Johnson was in his flat the night of 13/11. Also listing a number of other leaving parties but it's behind a paywall.

There haven't been any parties. Sue Gray's report makes that quite clear, there were gatherings but no parties.

Dealing with the public health housing and homelessness emergency would sort that.

Genuinely affordable housing - for rent as well as to buy - and Bob's your uncle. Public can afford the essentials - mortgage/rent, food, energy, etc and have money to spend on boosting the economy.

Blossomtoes · 01/02/2022 21:25

Three of the dozen events which Ms Gray said were being looked at by the Metropolitan Police had not been fully reported on in public when she revealed her findings on Tuesday.

But The Telegraph can reveal that a senior British diplomat in America, a military commander and a senior culture department official are at the heart of the gatherings.

CSWife · 01/02/2022 21:31

Erm, that's not particularly revealing is it.

This thread is explaining the 3 gatherings twitter.com/HarryYorke1/status/1488614909055229956?t=EwSlrZIAonS76EfLy7m1Lw&s=19

Event no 1 was 18 June 2020: The Telegraph understands official in question is Hannah Young, who left No10 to take up the role of deputy consul general in NY
About 20 people attended. Alcohol, including wine, was drunk. One government source claimed the event was “raucous”

Event number 2 was on Dec 17 2020: official who was leaving is Captain Steve Higham, then one of Mr Johnson's military advisers
Capt Higham became Commanding Officer of the HMS Prince of Wales in July 2021.
PM said to have attended

Event number 3 was on 14 Jan 2021: a senior civil servant in the culture department, who took up the role after leaving Downing Street, was one of the two officials given a send-off. The other’s identity is not known
PM said to have attended

It’s too long to c+p the whole thing - it goes on for ages!
Notonthestairs · 01/02/2022 21:38

Thanks Blossom and Duncin. So he's reported to have 2 additional gatherings.

DC has tweeted "He's finished. Push what is falling" (Nietzsche reference I think - along the lines that you can push up or down to aid someone to find their proper place, sorry not a great explanation).

Heaven only knows what he's got - or thinks he's got - there. Or just more ramblings Confused

None of those were parties though were they. Sue Gray's report didn't say they were parties. Nothing wrong with a few people having some refreshments with their work colleagues.
TokyoSushi · 01/02/2022 21:41

Cummings is tweeting again, only saying 'he's finished, push what is falling.' But once he pipes up something usually happens again. Not RTFT (have Covid) but I think we're slowly slowly getting there. Not there yet, but getting closer...

CSWife · 01/02/2022 21:46

Sorry @Blossomtoes I thought that was the reporting. Completely understand about the copy paste.

ClaudineClare · 01/02/2022 21:47

Surely he must be near the end of the road now?
