Naked man in car park/view point

Local viewpoint has a natural outdoor pond which people do outdoor swimming, maybe a car park for 40 cars. Sat in the car today putting on hat etc waiting to go out, a fully completely (not even shoes) man walks in front of the car to the pool. Oh sorry he has a hat on. I got a full frontal swinging view for quite a while. We sat there initially for a few seconds in a “did I just fucking see that?”. He was with 2 women who were wearing swimming costumes. He wasn’t even carrying a towel like they were. He walked about 200m.

We were just wondering whether this was a police matter, when we noticed there was a park warden in the car park and we’re going to talk to him, but it seemed a few people had beaten us to it. Warden went and talked to the 2 women who had got out at this point and they went and got another towel for naked man, who stayed in for another 5 mins I guess hoping to avoid warden, who then talked to him in front of our car. Naked man said something like it was a shame people were offended in this day and age.

Once he was gone, suddenly everyone got out their cars, like they were waiting for it to finish. There were kids walking with families (it is the start of a scenic walk).

If he really wanted to go for a naked swim, then walk to the pond with a towel and put it down before you go in surely? Although DH said even that is flashing too much.

So, if the warden wasn’t there, would you have thought it was a police matter? Is this not ok? They might not have been there in time. I think the warden dealt with it appropriately.

YANBU - no it’s not okay to walk 200m naked with families around
YABU - of course it’s ok to see a mans genitals when you’re not expecting them

Bit chilly for that sort of thing in January, I would have thought?

Which is why my mind goes immediately to him getting a thrill out of it.

I'm sorry but this made me smile. I love the fact he was wearing a hat. I wonder if he was German, IME they are very relaxed about nudity. Or maybe he was the Naked Rambler

FrogIAm · 29/01/2022 16:59

Apart from those 3, there were another 2 couples who went swimming properly after them , with those floating/towing bouy things and proper post swimming looking coat things. They weren’t in there long.

People still go loch/sea swimming this time of year.

I cannot say I would be overly bothered.
We got stuck at the traffic lights by Waterloo station for about 10 minutes as the naked bike ride went by - DD's were 7 and 9 at the time and had a few giggles at testicles dangling and breasts bouncing but that was about it.
We were not expecting to see them.

KimWexlersPonyTail · 29/01/2022 17:00

Didnt make me smile, he is a creep pushing boundaries

FrogIAm · 29/01/2022 17:01

Glad to make you smile!

We were trying to work out where the line would be drawn in different situations. I.e. the women changed at the pond side after the swim and were toppled for a few seconds. Topless on a beach would be expected if lying down, but not walking around. And you wouldn’t expect to see a naked man walk along the beach unless it was a clearly signposted nudist beach?

I don't suppose the people wearing bathing costumes were any warmer. In fact once the bathing costumes got wet I would imagine they would be colder to wear than nothing at all so I am not sure the thril hypothesis stands up.

Not German, sounded British when he spoke to warden.

I live somewhere where open water swimming is a ‘thing’ year round. I’ve never seen anything like this, and wouldn’t know who to report it to if I did. I’d probably challenge him though. “Oi, mate, there’s kids around. Get a towel”

TheBestofTimesTheWorstofTimes · 29/01/2022 17:03

He didnt have shoes on?! Well done him tbh, I couldnt walk across a car park without shoes.

(yanbu obvs - no one wants to see that thing swinging around in broad daylight)

FrogIAm · 29/01/2022 17:03

But with the naked bike ride you kind of had an idea it was coming/publicised?

That’s entirely possible. It always surprises British & American people to learn that not everyone else on the planet shares their ridiculous hang-ups about nudity in non-sexual contexts.

I once saw a naked man running along the beach trying to fly a kite at Arcachon. As far as I know this is not officially a nudist beach. Lots of families around and nobody bared an eyelid
FrogIAm · 29/01/2022 17:04

@MsJaneAusten before we spotted the warden DH was debating if it was okay to tell him to cover up for that reason.
Straight from the car park it’s grassland type thing.
We were waiting for him to slip on the muddy bits coming back, but alas he did not!

It's not an offence to be naked in itself, so I wouldn't consider it a police matter unless going out their way to cause distress to others.

Quite impressed there was anything to swing given the temperature!

girlmom21 · 29/01/2022 17:05

Is it not indecent exposure?

129orbust · 29/01/2022 17:07

No we didn't - just happened to come out of the station and were waiting to cross to go to Southbank and there they were in a long stream.
Obviously if we had looked up ' events happening in central London today" we would have seen it was on but it was a surprise.
Kids asked why they were doing it and I had to look it up as I had never heard of it before.

MissMaple82 · 29/01/2022 17:07

I'd find this this amusing. I wouldn't call the police, he's just doing his thang

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2022 17:07

YANBU. Totally inappropriate, selfish behaviour.

LondonQueen · 29/01/2022 17:08

It wouldn't particularly bother me tbf.

SpaceDetective · 29/01/2022 17:08

Is it not indecent exposure?

Indecent exposure in England requires intent to cause distress, not just being naked.

DeeCeeCherry · 29/01/2022 17:11

Men like that get a thrill out of flashing. Im not fooled at all by 'oh they're just comfortable with their body'

Is there even such an offence as indecent exposure anymore? There cant be if people mostly aren't bothered about naked men walking around

I agree Germany etc is relaxed but they choose where and when to get naked - we need to lose the notion that theyre doing this anywhere they wish. Theyre not, they do it in appropriate settings ie where its the norm where they are be it pool, sauna or outdoor swim.

Roadshiner · 29/01/2022 17:12

Why on earth was it necessary for him to do that - should have been arrested and charged.
