Naked man in car park/view point

Local viewpoint has a natural outdoor pond which people do outdoor swimming, maybe a car park for 40 cars. Sat in the car today putting on hat etc waiting to go out, a fully completely (not even shoes) man walks in front of the car to the pool. Oh sorry he has a hat on. I got a full frontal swinging view for quite a while. We sat there initially for a few seconds in a “did I just fucking see that?”. He was with 2 women who were wearing swimming costumes. He wasn’t even carrying a towel like they were. He walked about 200m.

We were just wondering whether this was a police matter, when we noticed there was a park warden in the car park and we’re going to talk to him, but it seemed a few people had beaten us to it. Warden went and talked to the 2 women who had got out at this point and they went and got another towel for naked man, who stayed in for another 5 mins I guess hoping to avoid warden, who then talked to him in front of our car. Naked man said something like it was a shame people were offended in this day and age.

Once he was gone, suddenly everyone got out their cars, like they were waiting for it to finish. There were kids walking with families (it is the start of a scenic walk).

If he really wanted to go for a naked swim, then walk to the pond with a towel and put it down before you go in surely? Although DH said even that is flashing too much.

So, if the warden wasn’t there, would you have thought it was a police matter? Is this not ok? They might not have been there in time. I think the warden dealt with it appropriately.

YANBU - no it’s not okay to walk 200m naked with families around
YABU - of course it’s ok to see a mans genitals when you’re not expecting them
@Cylmene you've clearly never been to Leeds on a night out when the students are at uni Grin
No I haven't. Failing to see what's amusing too.

OhWhyNot · 29/01/2022 19:29

Of course he is getting a kick out of this

No coincidence that most random naked people seen are men is it

I would have probably been amused out of shock but its done to be noticed

Clymene · 29/01/2022 19:29

And yet the 'naked rambler' has been arrested on multiple occasions and was sent to prison @Lockheart. So no, I'm not 100% convinced by the guidance.

bengalcat · 29/01/2022 19:34

Have put the naked bike ride 2022 in my diary - lol - I walk the dog in Hyde Park

FangsForTheMemory · 29/01/2022 19:36

doing it for attention, the prat

Riapia · 29/01/2022 19:40

Of course he was wearing a hat.
A gentleman needs something to raise when encountering a lady.
Would think it was too chilly to raise any thing else. 😉😁😁

DeeCeeCherry · 29/01/2022 20:06

It's always men flashing.

If it was a woman there'd be uproar on here. Show off, attention seeker, who does she think she is, how dare she, she doesn't even look good, and then descending into further insults.

AutomaticMoon · 29/01/2022 20:09

When I lived in Brighton, there was a completely naked man in the park in centre of town, children running around of all ages and no adults batting an eye lid. I think it’s gross.

Notwithittoday · 29/01/2022 20:10

I would report any flashers. These kind of behaviours are usually just weirdos pushing the boundaries and creeping themselves up to sexual assaults. Let’s not forget the monster that murdered Sarah Everard was a flasher.

ShavingTheBadger · 29/01/2022 20:12

We have a naked gardener on our allotments. The slightest bit of sunshine and everything comes off. He’s 80-odd. But, his plot is a pretty private place with fencing and very strategically planted things, so I very rarely see anything, apart from a little white bum bobbing round through the greenery. And he only does it if the site is empty - as soon as he hears anyone he puts his shorts back on.

Emanchego · 29/01/2022 20:13

The creepiness is tiring isn't it. Legit we need to bring back kink shaming.

Asdf12345 · 29/01/2022 20:28

Whilst I wouldn’t do it my understanding of the the legal position in the uk is that it’s fine and he is perfectly entitled to do that.

Your issue is with the law not the man who currently is enjoying his legal rights.

If it's so fine, why was the naked rambler locked up for years and years?
KateTheEighth · 29/01/2022 21:06

@KimWexlersPonyTail

Didnt make me smile, he is a creep pushing boundaries

Absolutely this

GCITC · 29/01/2022 21:09

Because he broke ASBO's that specifically banned him from being naked in certain places.

It's perfectly legal to be naked in the UK and naturism is a protected characteristic.

I have often been sunbathing or swimming with no clothes on.

Admittedly in the UK in very secluded spots - mountain pools, deserted beaches, rivers etc.

But on beaches in several European countries it is normal to be without clothes if you feel like it.

I wouldn't cross a populated car park with no clothes on, mostly because I would feel vulnerable to clothed perverts aka voyeurs. And obviously because it is socially unacceptable so I would be anxious.

Polyputthekettleon · 29/01/2022 21:16

I think if someone says that the naked person is causing them distress they would be asked to cover up? Either way I would report to police and see if anything would be done about it. Creepy perv.

EsmaCannonball · 29/01/2022 21:18

There's a sailing and watersports club near where I walk my dog. The club has changing rooms and a car park but lots of the men who go there just park on the country lane outside and stand by their cars, changing in and out of their wetsuits. I have never, not once, seen a woman do this. I guess that men are lucky that it doesn't even cross their minds that stripping off in public could result in being filmed by some creep and splashed all over the internet or being accused of 'asking for it' if someone decides to attack you. Given that it is located at a popular beauty spot, I can't help but think there is an element of deliberate exhibitionism in it.

FrogIAm · 29/01/2022 21:19

@Wonnle

It's the natural outdoor pond that confuses me , can you get indoor ones now then ?
Glad my description and that of the car park is the one thing you took issue with. I was trying to not completely out myself and location.

It's funny isn't it that it's always men who are keen to get their bodies out. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a naked female stranger except for on a nudist beach or a changing room.
Why is that do you think
?

Because women feel far more vulnerable without clothes on than men because they are more often subject to sexual harassment, having their bodies sexualised and objectified, and they are more socialised to keep the lowest possible profile.

Also because there are far fewer women sex pests - but there is a differnce between people who just like being without clothes from time to time and flashers.

I bet there are women (me!) who would like to be able to go wild swimming without clothes but don't because of the above factors - men with the same level of relaxedness will probably feel more confident. That doesn't make them perverts.

Then there are the male perverts - flashers.

Please show me where it appears in the equality act

It's not on but it is bloody hilarious

Maybe just enjoying their privilege - as you say, free from worrying about 'asking for it' etc.

After all, men piss with abandon on public in a way that women do not feel free to do.

Usually anti-social - but even where that is less of an issue, out on country walks etc, men are far more likely to wee outdoors.
