AIBU?

Horrified at 7month old in pizza express with screen

I went for lunch today at pizza express, there was a couple giving their ?7month old a bottle with a screen propped up with something Disney to watch. They then plopped baby into high chair and put something else on during whole time at the stable. How can people be so stupid! The baby was looking around elsewhere for something more interesting.

Yeah @MNHQ are on it. Honestly it's brought some of the nastier posters out of the woodwork that's for sure. Definitely 'not in the spirit', and a couple of sock puppets for added goadiness.

A parent that is empathetic, kind, understanding, accepting and non judgemental will bring out better kids for the future not those non screen time judgemental parents. This is why we have wars, equality issues today because these people who cause this have superiority issues that lack compassion, understanding and cant accept differences. You're the problem, you're parenting is the problem because the apple doesn't fall far from the tree where your children would be the problems in the future we face today, not the iPad children if they are raised with good values.

@CollieCali

YANBU

It's sad so many on here think this is ok

Agree with PP around this being very much a class issue

Oh look, another one with the classism.

Class issue indeed 😆. I've worked with dc for a long time and some of the most detached parents I have come across have been the incredibly rich ones.

Depends what you class as neglect, and it's partly because it comes to professionals attention and is more difficult for poorer families to disguise neglect. Far easier when you can throw money at the problem. How many times has it been said for example that if the McCanns had been a family on benefits then they'd have been subject to a totally different level of scrutiny from social services in they return to the uk. Anyway giving a screen to a child in the context of a short time in a restaurant cannot, by any stretch of the imagination be classed as neglect.

And it's equally ridiculous to be so sure this was a one off and they'd just received bad news

Yet many on this site tried to claim that [/quote]
Not really, since that is a far more likely scenario.

Deprived children don't tend to get taken to Pizza Hut.

Also if you want to learn a lot disguised neglect in middle class and wealthy families then have a wander over true the stately homes series of threads. A lot worse than a bit of iPad time.

The point being, of course, is that nobody. Fucking. Knows.

What we do know is that making snap judgements about people you have never met or making sweeping statements about class is a cunty thing ro do.

Working class does not equal deprived by the way. Deprived is a whole different kettle of fish. I'm working class and my child is not deprived. Some people have no clue.

I'm working class too, raised by working class parents. Some people on this site don't seem to see the difference between working class and actually deprived.

I've worked with deprived kids. It's NOT the same. And even they weren't neglected or abused, just fucking dirt poor. I tell you what else they were - far more empathic than some of the posters on this thread.

I agree, I hate seeing screens in restaurants. To those who say you don't know what is going on ... We managed just fine before smartphones, we talked to our children and took crayons.

Of course entertaining your child with crayons is far more superior than screens!

What did people do before crayons existed? They were surely better parents than you?

Again pop over to the stately holes thread for evidence that cultural enrichment does not balance out the effects of emotional neglect
