I actually needed new pants, so I bought 3 new pairs of mostly otton jeans that were the same on sale from a warehouse getting rid of old stock. The jeans are all one shade of blue so any marks would be obvious. I could've got cheaper jeans but I thought I'd treat myself. They no longer have the jeans in my size but are selling them or something similar on the original website for a similar amount.

Dog of a relative unexpectedly jumped up on me and scratched as soon as I got in the door. I didn't expect them to because last times I've come in they've not done that and I've gone in loads of times. I've had these jeans 2 days. The jeans haven't been torn but are damaged. You'd have to look at them to see the scratches. other marks they've made I'm not sure if it'd come out in the wash. This has effected the aesthetic of the jeans and they don't feel as special. They haven't had holes ripped in them so relative is refusing to replace them

If it's your mil I wouldn't ask her for money..I get that you are annoyed and disappointed. I would be too as there aren't many others I'm find of but when I do like something I get pretty precious about it but I don't think you ask close family members for money in this kind of situation. It just sours the relationship.

Snowflakes are out in force on MN tonight!

So are bitches, judging by this thread. And I don't care if this gets deleted.

I once bought some lovely 7 for all mankind jeans in the sale. First day on. Needed to go in the loft for something. Misjudged unclipping the ladder and it shot down out of the loft. The sharp edge slashed all the way down my leg as it came down. I wasn't hurt. The jeans were.

Ffs.

So I feel your annoyance but I had it worst and couldn't even blame anyone

KarmaStar · 21/01/2022 22:17

Precious.the jeans obviously not you.

Just put it down to experience , the dog was probably over excited as haven't been seeing many people. X

Fairylightsongs · 21/01/2022 22:43

@Flickflak

Your MIL thinks you are crazy, just in case you didn’t know.
I’m not sure that’s true, she’d likely just think the jeans are such a huge thing to the op she’s lost all sense of reasonableness.

From what I can see the op doesn’t work, she doesn’t have her own money, and as an individual lives in a very poor situation, so her new jeans were really important to her,people shouldn’t sneer at her for it, yes she made her lifestyle choices, children, employmen, partner, but for her, getting branded jeans was a big thing,

Like the Sue Gray report, I'll wait until I see the evidence.

Because calling people birches because they don't agree with you is the height of mature isn't it.

How exactly did you come to that conclusion ? Where do you draw the line of debate and criticism, that's founded ?

What triggered that comment was actually all the 'crying with laughter' and nasty comments directed to the OP. I couldn't give a stuff about anything that's been said to me personally, don't flatter yourself.

I haven't said anything to you to offend you, so I wasn't refering to myself.

I don't think we're seeing evidence for either in this lifetime Grin

If someone’s dog damages something, they should pay for a replacement or repair. I certainly would if my dog damaged something.

OP hasn't even told us if they're actually damaged yet. If he'd torn the leg off I'd agree.
BABAHOTEL · 22/01/2022 07:21

Log it with 101!

Have they been damaged?
BABAHOTEL · 22/01/2022 07:32

@Needrichangemynameagain

Well I would be pissed off too! When I was dating DH my then future MIL damaged my diesel shirt I just bought a week ago for £80. She had to buy me a new one. Sorry but I don’t find money on a tree. She should read the label how to wash delicate clothing. Instead she showed a white shirt with her hubs tear black clothing. It came out dark grey!
You should e washed your own clothing! I'd have told you to do one!
Notarealmum · 22/01/2022 08:46

I remember (just!) the days when as soon as you got a new pair of jeans you’d attack them with sandpaper to create that ‘lived in’ look. (Before the pre-distressed variety were available! Of course).

BertramLacey · 22/01/2022 09:19

If you take your dog into someone's home and it knocks over and breaks something then yes, you should. But if your dog scrapes a visitor's jeans, such that it may or may not have left a mark, then why? They're still usable as jeans. They're not ripped. Can we not just chalk this up to one of those things that happen and move on with life?

I mean I get that the OP was excited to buy branded jeans and that she's lost her sense of perspective but really, they're jeans. They're not a unique, precious antique lost to the world forever. They're jeans. They were invented as workwear for cowboys. A dog's pawmarks is the least they can deal with.

BertramLacey · 22/01/2022 09:20

Balls, first paragraph of that should be in bold.
