wont pay for damage to my jeans

I actually needed new pants, so I bought 3 new pairs of mostly otton jeans that were the same on sale from a warehouse getting rid of old stock. The jeans are all one shade of blue so any marks would be obvious. I could've got cheaper jeans but I thought I'd treat myself. They no longer have the jeans in my size but are selling them or something similar on the original website for a similar amount.

Dog of a relative unexpectedly jumped up on me and scratched as soon as I got in the door. I didn't expect them to because last times I've come in they've not done that and I've gone in loads of times. I've had these jeans 2 days. The jeans haven't been torn but are damaged. You'd have to look at them to see the scratches. other marks they've made I'm not sure if it'd come out in the wash. This has effected the aesthetic of the jeans and they don't feel as special. They haven't had holes ripped in them so relative is refusing to replace them

That’s an interesting question. Much the same as where does a centaur’s willie hang, which has puzzled me for years

I read this as centurion and wondered why you struggled with anatomy.... Grin

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 21/01/2022 17:06

@upaladderagain

I'm glad you're not my daughter-in-law.
I know. I hope my kids don't bring an OP home. My dog likes to share his slobbery ball
lynntheyresexswappers · 21/01/2022 17:09

You don't even know they're damaged - I cannot get my head around this at all.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/01/2022 17:10

@DropYourSword

Now Googled OTTO jeans. Where have these delights been hiding all my life!!
If these were indeed OP's jeans them may I suggest that whatever MIL's dog did to the said jeans it was only an improvement?
LuckySantangelo35 · 21/01/2022 17:11

@LampLighter414

Dog owners are accountable for the damage their dogs cause.

Simple as.

Disagree? Please explain why

Completely agree with this
Genevie82 · 21/01/2022 17:12

Really petty OP.

AlDanvers · 21/01/2022 17:13

I am surprised no one has suggested calling the non emergency number 'just to log in, incase the dog mauls someone'

Fucking labelling it attack 🤣🤣🤣

LuckySantangelo35 · 21/01/2022 17:15

Really not sure why so many posters are slagging off the OP’s fashion choices/cost of jeans are is they are somehow relevant. Utter snobbery and so condescending

LondonQueen · 21/01/2022 17:15

You're being ridiculous, marks you can't see but you want them replacing?!GrinGrin

Guavaf1sh · 21/01/2022 17:16

You did the wrong thing here OP. Apologise to your MIL

girlmom21 · 21/01/2022 17:24

OP has already explained that for her this purchase was a treat.

But then went on to show us she spent almost £250 on clothes. The jeans were only a fifth of that.

cansu · 21/01/2022 17:24

This is a relative. It has come to something when you are wanting to charge your close relative for an accident. Look at it this way, you go out for a meal. Your friend accidentally knocks over some wine and your top is stained. You ask your friend to replace it?? No, you graciously accept the apology and move on! Accidents happen, dogs jump up etc etc.

I know. I hope my kids don't bring an OP home. My dog likes to share his slobbery ball

And I'm sure every single one of your visitors simply loves that. Hmm

Out of interest, what do you do if someone visits who's allergic to dogs? (There are a lot of posters on this thread I'd like to ask that question tbh!!)

Keke94LND · 21/01/2022 17:34

@ChardonnaysPetDragon that seems a bit mean

puffyisgood · 21/01/2022 17:35

the YABU's have it.

JohnKettleyIsAWeatherMan · 21/01/2022 17:35

@ReadySteadyTwins

What a snooty comment (ditto the other 'it's hardly designer' comment).

Oh give over. This amount of drama over a £19 pair of jeans of which she has another two identical pairs, is embarrassing.

Being sanctimonious about it, when you know very well it's not snobbery, and just pointing out how ridiculous OP is being, is just tedious.

But I do consider it snobbery. Don't particularly care if that seems tedious to you.

Some posters on this thread need to check their privilege imho.

If someone who's allergic to dogs visits my house I'd expect them to take responsibility for their own allergies tbh...

You might think that, but you'd be wrong.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/01/2022 17:37

In my opinion.

Bonnealle · 21/01/2022 17:38

Have you thought about taking this on Judge Rinder?

My visitors all have dogs. Some bring them with them. The rest are my family and expect it. I don't know anyone allergic to dogs. If it was bad enough surely you just wouldn't go to someones house who has a dog?

My best friends husband is allergic to cats and just takes anti histamine before he comes and I have some in the cupboard.

Don't like pets? Don't go to a house with pets. Pretty simple.

WeAreTheHeroes · 21/01/2022 17:39

If you'd paid full price for the jeans and they were the only pair you have I'd understand where you're coming from. But you didn't and you have two identical pairs you can wear instead. Some things you just have to chalk up to experience. It's not worth falling out with someone over this.

Fairylightsongs · 21/01/2022 17:42

I am curious though op, how come you bought three identical pairs? There are loads of jeans on there at that price point, ans lots of bench ones in that style in different colours/shades, but it looks like you bought three identical pairs in the same colour?

Georgyporky · 21/01/2022 17:42

Dog owner could probably claim on Pet Insurance Policy.

guardiansofthegalaxychocs · 21/01/2022 17:43

@YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators

Wtaf? Dog. Jeans. Notoriously hard-wearing garment. It's embarassing to even think to ask your MiL to pay.
This!
