wont pay for damage to my jeans

I actually needed new pants, so I bought 3 new pairs of mostly otton jeans that were the same on sale from a warehouse getting rid of old stock. The jeans are all one shade of blue so any marks would be obvious. I could've got cheaper jeans but I thought I'd treat myself. They no longer have the jeans in my size but are selling them or something similar on the original website for a similar amount.

Dog of a relative unexpectedly jumped up on me and scratched as soon as I got in the door. I didn't expect them to because last times I've come in they've not done that and I've gone in loads of times. I've had these jeans 2 days. The jeans haven't been torn but are damaged. You'd have to look at them to see the scratches. other marks they've made I'm not sure if it'd come out in the wash. This has effected the aesthetic of the jeans and they don't feel as special. They haven't had holes ripped in them so relative is refusing to replace them

Am sorry your jeans were damaged op. I understand why you're upset. I would be too. Unfortunately though I think the most your mil should give you is the price you paid in the first place. I'll keep my fingers crossed on your behalf that the marks come out in the wash.

@HRMtheQuern

Right, the next person to post a passive aggresive patronising comment will be reported. Because it's largely the reason why I can't enjoy using mumsnet quite so much. I've only ever had cheap jeans not nice ones out of a sale so this was meant to be special for me but thanks a lot.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If you don't want to be told you're being precious about a pair of jeans because a dog put it's paws on it & they now don't feel special, I suggest not asking the question.

Jeans. No actual damage, they just don't feel special.

🤦🏻‍♀️

HailAdrian · 21/01/2022 15:00

The dog should pay

girlmom21 · 21/01/2022 15:01

@HRMtheQuern

I know cars don't cost as much as jeans but to give an example

Say someone dents your car
'oh you might be able to get that sucked out anyway'

But you're saying that you bought a £15,000 second hand old Range Rover and a stone on MIL's driveway chipped your paintwork so she should buy you a new £70,000 Range Rover.
kazillionaire · 21/01/2022 15:02

So you purchased some reduced jeans, went to visit a house with a dog and the dog jumped up and has marked your jeans and you want them replacing with full priced ones?
Bit cheeky love

MoniJitchell · 21/01/2022 15:02

Is your MILs dog wolverine?

heathspeedwell · 21/01/2022 15:03

I think you should make owl noises at her.

3luckystars · 21/01/2022 15:03

Even if you return a full price item during a sale, you only get the sale price.

You are expecting to be refunded full price for something bought at sale price?

Except this isn’t a shop, it’s your MIL and the jeans are not ripped just sullied by your bad experience with a surprise jump by a family pet.

Okay. I have officially seen it all now.

Branleuse · 21/01/2022 15:03

i thought the whole point of jeans was that they were hardwearing casualwear. Im not sure they need replacing because a dog jumped on you but didnt actually damage them. I sense that there was friction between you and your MIL even before this happened though.

Bananarama21 · 21/01/2022 15:03

It's less than 20 a cost of a takeaway serious more important things happening in the world.

3luckystars · 21/01/2022 15:04

No way would I fall out with my mil over something like that.

FayCarew · 21/01/2022 15:05

They don't even look nice on the model.

ListeningButNotHearing · 21/01/2022 15:05

It really pisses me off when dogs do this.
So fucking rude of the owners not to stop them or get them off you.

Peaplant20 · 21/01/2022 15:08

I’m on the mindset that accidents happen, unless iou never wear your new clothes out this is always a possibility. Once I wore a brand new pair of expensive boots to a relatives, put them in the hall where everyone puts their shoes and the relative spilt something (can’t remember what, maybe wine) all over them. It changed the look of the material like you say, but couldn’t notice unless you looked close. I just smiled and laughed it off even though I was a bit upset. Life happens. I still wear them and this was years ago.

This thread is hilarious 😂

Yes in public. But if you're just walking into a dogs home. I really couldn't get wound up about it
Mamamamasaurus · 21/01/2022 15:14

If you think those jeans are designer, you have bigger problems than we realised

AlDanvers · 21/01/2022 15:14

So you spent £53 on jeans. But want her to buy (according to the warehouse who is selling jeans to get rid of stock despite them being a current item) £180.

If I was mil I would give you £55 to shut up and advise you shouldn't come round to where my dogs live again. I could see you elsewhere.

Blackberrybunnet · 21/01/2022 15:14

@HRMtheQuern

What I mean is they're selling they'll be selling similar jeans on the original website. But the warehouse I got the jeans from has been selling them massively discounted because they're getting rid of old stock. The ones in the warehouse have sold out in my size. But relative wont want to pay full price

Relative is mil

but you have 2 other pairs exactly the same!
coeliacsucks · 21/01/2022 15:16

Ok then love!

stupiduser · 21/01/2022 15:16

I had this happen once, went to my DFs house and my friends huge dog jumped at me and ripped my new boots (the buckle thing ripped) she bought me a new pair straight away because it was her fault that her dog is an annoying jumping fool

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/01/2022 15:17

You can't see the scratches unless you closely inspect them? The other marks will probably come out in the wash?

But they don't "feel special" . . .

For heaven's sake - get over yourself.

Well if you bought a cheap car would you expect the person to pay the same amount they would pay if they dented a car that cost 3 times as much?
