To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

OP posts:

Nice selective quoting @Unsure33. Fortunately some of us can find the whole thing. If the country hadn’t been in uproar about it Johnson would have got away with it.

There's another thread asking if Tory voters would still vote Tory. Of course they will

Not a support myself, but know of at least a dozen Tory voters who won't be voting for Boris ever again. At present they are saying they don't feel they can vote a Tory right now. I guess that stance may change depending on takes over.

Fuckedoffisanunderstatement · 19/01/2022 19:25

Boris is having the last laugh now. He is saying, 'right, show's over, everyone piss off back to work'.

I bet he wishes it was as easy as that.
Happygirl79 · 19/01/2022 19:28

@AndAllOurYesterdays

I'm with you OP. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. I'm enjoying his attempts to get out of it, and the fact he's failing.
Same here. He is a waste of space
newnamenewyear · 19/01/2022 19:29

@GrendelsGrandma

To clarify, I still feel like I'm on a national ship that has been hijacked by brexit pirates. I'm just happy to think of this particular Pirate Captain being made to walk the plank.

I know we're still overall completely screwed! I'm just enjoying this micro-second of chutzpah being punctured.

I'm with you OP. It's a shit show, but happy to see Boris get his comeuppance. He more than deserves it.
Alexandra2001 · 19/01/2022 19:34

@Florianus Yes i was under the impression you weren't a BJ fan but you also "appeared" to change,

Sorry for getting that wrong.

22itsallnew · 19/01/2022 19:37

May 2020 Boris was inviting staff to party & booze it up in the rose garden & just a couple of days later we had Cummings press conference explaining his Barnard Castle bullshit eyetest drive.

That garden was busier than Piccadilly Circus in May2020 (full lockdown)

This all happened when there were no vaccinations in place no protection other than social distancing. While families lost loved ones without being with them www.nottinghampost.com/news/nottingham-news/we-buried-mum-boris-partied-6480840

To be fair I think Starmer made an error of judgement in drinking while ‘working’ - even in the evening - with people because we were all so overly cautious, and the optics look worse against the context of the restrictions.
The optics are completely insignificant in the context of the Tories’ 17 parties.‘

Maybe to you but clearly not to everyone - it’s a distracting gift to Bozo (see PMQs) and the right wing press.

Love your username Yep, seems it'll fizzle out unless Dominic has more , but seems doubtful

Isn't that what he wished he said at the party? 🤣
22itsallnew · 19/01/2022 19:41

It's not great that Starmer was drinking at work - however it was April 2021 when the vaccine programme was underway, not partying (that we know of) in the first and most restrictive lockdown unlike the PM and his inner circle

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 19/01/2022 19:42

It's not going to fizzle out and if it does there's plenty more shit to hit the fan I'm sure. It's not about if but when. I can't see home leading them to the next election. No way.

Bitbloweyoutthere · 19/01/2022 19:47

He doesn't care. It'll just be another story to share with his mates.

Well, if there are any more ' revelations ' then they are being very slow about it

Unsure33 · 19/01/2022 19:53

@Blossomtoes

I was not selective posting that was the summary of the decision of the Supreme Court . And my point was there are processes in place which there were.

So you are actually saying Boris is quite clever ? Not a Buffoon then

And actually I know the majority of posters on her are not stupid and can search the internet …… if they are really interested.

Imo, it looks like Cummings is purposely drip feeding them. Let the dust settle on the one before for a few weeks and release more scandalous details.

If you want to destabilize the current Tory party, the way to do it is not to release a dossier in one go as Boris will always find something to cover it with. For example, isolation for a week until some of the hate dies down or changes to rules in March to skim over his appalling behaviour. The drip, drip, drip of more information will be more appalling to all over time.

lljkk · 19/01/2022 20:04

I won't be surprised if BJ is still PM in 2024 & wins the next Gen-election as such.

Unfortunately, going by some of the reasons on MN to vote Conservative again, I wouldn't be surprised in the least.
Alexandra2001 · 19/01/2022 20:12

Nah the Tories are finished, Bojo might still be PM but with inflation, tax rises and low wages plus the loss of trust in him, he'll lose... i hope he does soldier on.
He'll do for the Cons what Corbyn, electorally, did for Labour.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 20:22

If I were part of the opposition though a part of me would see the huge problems looming and wonder if being 'just the opposition' might be a better idea ! Not what they want , obviously, but the fall out from nearly two years of a pandemic and the debts mounting up and the squeeze on living costs generally , it is going to be brutal times.
They may think they could do better , but clearing up that lot won't be easy plus the health service is crumbling under the pressure too :( the waiting list for treatment is getting longer.
I would not want to be the one having to deal with all this.
Still, it's why they are in politics. Have to see what happens.

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 19/01/2022 20:34

There’s nothing enjoyable about this mess.

Fairylightsongs · 19/01/2022 20:45

Well seems self preservation has united the tories, they don’t like the defection or that twat show boating and publicly calling on Boris to resign and they are uniting behind him

Right now they know rishi doesn’t have the gravitas and irrelevant of polls it’s Boris who would take them through an election.

He lives to fight another day.

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 20:52

It will all come to a head again later this week or next week when the report is published. I wonder if No.10 has already seen a draft copy...
