To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

Did I just read gravitas and BJ in the same sentence? Surely not.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 20:56

Boris Johnson does have support though , just not on Mumsnet ( or from me )
I guess they hope the inquiry will get them off the hooks and something else might crop up and they can bury it all soon.

ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 20:58

I think he knows the inquiry will get them off - he continually references it in a positive ‘the Hon member is quite wrong in her assertions….inquiry for the answers’.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 21:00

They know the inquiry won't be too painful.
It'll be written off as 'work' etc
I'm under no illusions that they will all get off this and the Labour Party will be told to move on

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 19/01/2022 21:02

@Blessex

Sadly I will have to vote Tory at the next election despite never voting for them before because every other party is intent in throwing women and girls under a bus. Until Labour and the Lib Dens get their act together on gender ideology I will be forced to vote Tory. It’s a sad state of affairs.
Sadly, likewise.
22itsallnew · 19/01/2022 21:04

We better hope there's not a further occasion they need to issue 'rules' for the public to follow then! Who is going to listen to Johnson now?!

Adeleskirts · 19/01/2022 21:06

I also think he knows the outcome of rhe enquiry and where it is going, I doubt there will be much issue there,

And he does have a lot of support, not on mumsnet which has a lot of vocal labour voters, but in the wider population, the polls will raise again and his mps have rallied behind him. It was only about twenty rebels any way and he’s got about 360 mps. It was never a real threat, more just the media and other parties whipping up a storm in a teacup and rishi letting his ambition get the better of him, he’s a marked man now and will be dealt with like gove was.

The bloke lied to the queen and tried to send Parliament home so he could get brexit done, shagged some blonde bit and used his position to give her public money, got his flat done by a donor, and has shagged countless women when married, moved his then mistress into number ten, has at least eight children ,,so going to a party in lockdown is small shit in comparison to all that. If that’s all they’ve got on him, they’ve no chance and they know it.

He will soon give the voters back what they want, the original election promises, now that brexit and Covid is done and normal life is resuming.

It’s not really relevant is it, he just brings in credible staff like witty and folks listen to them.
the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 21:07

If ( big if ) another virus hits us such as delta , nobody would follow any rules at all now.
From a public health perspective it is a disaster.
Just hope we don't need another 'lockdown ' for a hundred years !

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 19/01/2022 21:07

But as I've said he lied to the last enquiry so who's going to believe this one?

And he's admitted that in retrospect he should have stopped it! That's an admission he did the wrong thing!

In a court saying 'I realise it looks bad and wish I hadn't done it, sorry' might mitigate a sentence but it would still make you guilty.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 21:08

Nope, I still think they will 'wing it '
Only my opinion though

Are you kidding? They are having to coax people into not wanting to be locked down , to stop wearing masks, to go back to their offices and if another big virus hit people value their own lives over politics, they’d not risk ending uo in hospital just because they don’t like the pm 😂
NotABeliever · 19/01/2022 21:11

I hope BJ stays as PM. I'm saying this as a non-tory voter.
It's not like the Tories are out of BJ goes. He may be replaced by someone even more awful like Truss, Raab or Gove.
I hate this Tory government but the previous ones were even worse in my opinion. Austerity under David Cameron and Theresa May truly fucked up the public sector and public services. At least BJ is not a stingy arsehole and has the guts to increase taxes to fund social care. I'd take BJ over David Cameron every day.

AntikytheraMech · 19/01/2022 21:14

@thegcatsmother

It's a distraction from where the focus should be, and you have to wonder, why now? What is Cummings hoping to gain? The media should be looking hard at Ukraine and the German response to Putin, drawing parallels with 20th century history and not getting in a lather about drinks in a garden after work.
Absolutely. The US, NATO, Russia, Ukraine and possibly an alliance with China is at a tipping point now. Ships are being deployed from all over the world to go "somewhere", as well as 100000 + Russian troops on the border and Sweden and Norway moving troops.. but anyway, back to the garden party!

This is the bigger issue. Totally.

It's not about a party vs work event. It's that at the point in the pandemic where 10% of cases ended up in hospital (ie it was serious illness), there was no vaccine and people were already saying 'why should we follow the rules?' After the Cummings affair, Boris thought it was ok to host a get together for 40 people in his garden.

He didn't think 'shit, got to stop this, if this made the press it would destroy confidence and adherence to the rules, we must not let that happen'. Nah, he stayed and chatted for 25 minutes.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 21:25

Someone other than Johnson would have to tell people to lockdown though if a bigger more deadly virus ever hits again. I Just hope that it never comes to this though

leotardrock · 19/01/2022 21:42

I'm gender critical I do not want self ID to become law but my god I could not vote Tory!
They are corrupt, they are selling off our public services but by bit, removing our right to protest, changing the immigration laws so that refuges are left to drown in the sea or taken to a 3rd Country to be processed!
There will be more years of austerity, not giving children free schools meals, cutting benefits for poorest, we won't care wether we are called women or not because we will all be on our knees!
This Govt may have taken note of the consultation they allowed it to happen in the first place, they have let Stonewall creep into every Govt Dept!

The Tory party are not on the side of women!

MimiDaisy11 · 19/01/2022 21:51

@leotardrock
Well said! Totally agree.

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 19/01/2022 21:52

@DaisyTheUnicorn

There's another thread asking if Tory voters would still vote Tory. Of course they will 🙄
Well SHAME on them!!!
Blossomtoes · 19/01/2022 22:17

So you are actually saying Boris is quite clever ?

Where did I say that? If he was even remotely clever he wouldn’t be in the mess he is now.

ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 22:20

My theory is Bozo is actually a fairly mediocre man playing an intellectual man playing a clown.

VonHaus · 19/01/2022 22:33

There was a theory much promoted on MN that Boris Johnson is a Machiavellian political genius with a carefully crafted media persona designed to mask that fact and make him more approachable.

Of course, the other view is that if someone looks like a buffoon and acts like a buffoon, they probably are a buffoon.

Curiousmouse · 19/01/2022 22:37

I hate the man but I don't think he is stupid. His books are thought through. He has big personality weaknesses though.

SuitcaseOfWhine · 19/01/2022 22:48

You are kidding yourself - the country's democracy is burning all around you as we slide into an autocratic state, children are going hungry and families can't afford to heat their homes - and all you care about is self ID?

Try and see the bigger picture please, for all of our sakes. (That's the polite way of putting it).

This with bells on. Not sure if it is some Tory bot thing, as this is always plastered over these threads like it is a valid counter arguement when voting for any other party is mentioned. I do agree there are issues with these policies, but it is a drop in the ocean against the country being utterly neglected and mismanaged. That affects our kids, our parents, everyone, not just women. I vote for what is best for everyone.

Adeleskirts · 19/01/2022 22:53

Well for a fairly mediocre man he’s managed to become prime minister and have most of the company vote for him and have one of the largest majorities in history,,.,,if that’s mediocre, then I think a lot of people, Inc stammer and corbyn would just love to reach that dizzying mediocre height. 😃
