Want to get away, alone. I have 5 days AL going spare. Has to be in the UK, as a lone female I need to feel safe.

Any ideas ?

What would be your perfect week away? What sort of things would you do ?

Edinburgh

MelonTits · 18/01/2022 19:40

Ooh. I think I’d go to a small city like York or Bath so I could spend some time in the city but also get to the coast easily. I’d go for a luxurious breakfast each day, walk some hills, wander around shops, practise yoga every day and spend my evenings reading.

hamstersarse · 18/01/2022 19:42

The Lake District

Loads of amazing walks, pubs and little cosy hotels. And browsey shops!

Momicrone · 18/01/2022 19:45

Go to a nice seaside town and go swimming every day, lovely walks etc

Kenneldogsrock · 18/01/2022 19:46

Bath or if you don’t mind flying jersey. Plenty of things to do and see, lots of walking and shopping (if you like that kind of thing) and nice eateries.

etaussi · 18/01/2022 19:47

Now?

Edinburgh, I'd eat, I'd drink, I'd see friends, I'd go to where my family is from nearby

Warmer times: Cornwall or the peaks, I'd eat and drink and walk and climb

Persephoned · 18/01/2022 19:48

For five days I would want to do something structured so would either book into a writing retreat eg Arvon, or a wellness/yoga retreat in Cornwall or Scotland, with lots of beautiful places for walking. I’d probably do 2/3 days in a city. What sort of thing/place interests you? Do you prefer time on your own or some time with others?

Soffit · 18/01/2022 19:49

I'd probably try a cathedral city like Canterbury ... or maybe St Ives for the art scene if it is accessible. Belfast and Glasgow are great as well.

bellinisurge · 18/01/2022 19:51

York or somewhere on the Pembrokeshire coast

Hesma · 18/01/2022 19:52

Bath or the isle of wight

JoyOrbison · 18/01/2022 19:54

Bamburgh, stroll on the beach, git a little holiday cottage in the village, then can do days outvif needed, but really it would be beach walks, reading and switching off time for me!

thepeopleversuswork · 18/01/2022 19:56

Orkney. Always fancied that.

thegcatsmother · 18/01/2022 19:57

Winchester, Bath, Isles of Scilly, The Lamb at Hindon near Salisbury, Hay on Wye, Ludlow, Shrewsbury, or Cambridge, so I could hole up in Fitzbillies and eat my body weight in Chelsea buns.

KohlaParasaurus · 18/01/2022 19:58

London. A nice hotel somewhere central, a show or concert, lots of walking and eating out, and seeing friends who live in the city.

LeQuern · 18/01/2022 20:03

I’ve holidayed alone a lot. I find city’s such as Bath, York etc quite lonely alone. Lots of families and couples taking in the sights. Things to look at and no one to discuss them with.

Wild walking alone holidays are great. Quiet birdwatching, talking and thinking to yourself as you hike across moors, hills, lakes etc. lots of other solo walkers so you feel comfortable in the local pub / hotel / hostel etc.

I’m thinking of doing the South Downs in Feb.

LeQuern · 18/01/2022 20:04

I had a lovely week on Guernsey once. Would love to do it again.

What are you into? Country walks, art galleries, history, theatre?

dementedma · 18/01/2022 20:07

Orkney

Hbh17 · 18/01/2022 20:09

London. There's just so much to do - blissful.

Livelifeinthebuslane · 18/01/2022 20:09

I went to north Norfolk alone, stayed in Stiffkey and went to Holkham / Wells, Blakeney, Holt, Brancaster. Lots of walks though so you'd need reasonable weather. I had intended to visit Norwich, but I didn't get round to it.

DoubleShotEspresso · 18/01/2022 20:10

Bath it's the perfect place to lose yourself in and recharge a bit I'd love to escape there next week if I could !

Whatinthewonderingfuckisthat · 18/01/2022 20:19
