Want to get away, alone. I have 5 days AL going spare. Has to be in the UK, as a lone female I need to feel safe.

Any ideas ?

What would be your perfect week away? What sort of things would you do ?

Ok- fly to Northern Ireland- very cheap from London airports to Belfast (international or city) and if you do- I can guide you from there for your itinerary! Spa, walking, city tours and everything else.

Saffzy · 18/01/2022 21:22

Edinburgh. I went alone and loved it and felt safe. Will definitely go back and recommend.

Whatinthewonderingfuckisthat · 18/01/2022 21:23

Also- plenty of sea/beach/costal areas!

shedevill · 18/01/2022 21:24

Oxford for free museums, walks round the colleges and parks, you could get the coach into London in 1.5hrs for a sightseeing day

TheHateIsNotGood · 18/01/2022 21:25

Really Old Hag? I wouldn't consider myself lucky at all. If you're a lone man wandering about some areas at night you're probably just as likely, if not more so, of being a 'victim' - at least in the UK (which the OP is asking about).

Generally, whether you are, or appear, or identify with being a man or woman - you'd have to pretty damn 'lost' if you found yourself in a 'no go' area whilst on holiday in the UK.

I did something like this for 3 days. Did Weymouth and isle of Portland. Pretty safe, great coastline and can walk around isle of Portland and lighthouse. Beautiful place.

Would also suggest Jersey but bit of a further distance.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/01/2022 21:42

Lewes.

Was going to suggest Weymouth. Lots of local walks and buses to Abbotsbury, Dorchester and other places. Direct trains too from London.

Newcastle, good for shopping, museums, galleries if the weather is poor, with everything close to the centre. Wide choice of hotels & restaurants.

If the weather is good, trip to Hadrian’s Wall, or hop on the train to the coast.

Meandthesky · 18/01/2022 21:58

I’d get the sleeper train to Inverness

TurtleBackUp · 18/01/2022 22:10

Jotting all these ideas down and will have a look at them!

Thanks!

Think my ideal few days would be;
Sea air, big bed, go for a wonder, cafes, cozy pubs, a swim/sauna, cinema / theatre, antique, history, good scenery, shops, read and listen to music, long baths and great food

I would go to Newcastle. You can get to tynemouth on the metro, durham on the train.

Hedgesgalore · 18/01/2022 22:22

Pembrokeshire, the walking is just brilliant, done a lot of the coast path but also the castles are interesting, glorious beaches.

Bit of a pitb to get to by train for you but if you can go by car its well worth it.

bluehaze · 18/01/2022 22:25

I am watching with interest as have the same luxury of a free week and no plans yet. With the added requirement that I need to do a lot of exercise. So that I can come back thinner!

AnotherFuckingUsername · 18/01/2022 22:26

Sleeper to Inverness (maybe a day trip on train to Plockton). Couple of nights Glasgow/Stirling/Edinburgh on return.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 18/01/2022 22:47

Not UK but, (provided you’re driving or hiring a car) Cork has everything you want. (Or at least, it did the last time I was there a few years ago.) Great city culture surrounded by breathtaking landscapes just a short drive away. Possibly more like Glasgow than Edinburgh …

dementedma · 19/01/2022 19:46

Orkney is mind blowing. Scenery, walks, wildlife, beaches, history. I saw Orcas there once. Kirkwall has some nice shops inc Sheila Fleet jewellery. Love it!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/01/2022 20:06

I want to go to the north of Scotland. By train. That’s what I’ll do when I get a chance!

velvet24 · 19/01/2022 20:09

Cornwall, in a little cottage by the sea, oh I can dream..............

WeedSeaS0ur · 19/01/2022 20:11

You could drive the NC500 in Scotland
Amazing scenery
Lots of things to see along the way

Or

Island hop the Outer Hebrides
Pre book accommodation if you are going to do this, not many places to stay

Furrydogmum · 19/01/2022 20:14

With my dog, somewhere coastal with a cosy cottage, good walks and dog friendly pubs. On my own a city with excellent museums and hotels..

Lightstoobright · 19/01/2022 20:18

I went alone to Inverness. It was very depressing. Edinburgh on the other hand was lovely.

XingMing · 19/01/2022 20:20

London every time. Used to live and work there and there's so much to enjoy. A night or two at the theatre, an evening or two with friends, and all day every day to walk, see exhibitions and museums, a little shopping, interspersed with coffees and snacks for refreshment. Sounds perfect, and if one chose the right hotel, probably a few exercise classes or spa treatments.

changedforschoolpost · 19/01/2022 20:20

I had a lovely night alone last week in a very quiet hotel in Grange Over Sands, overlooking the Bay, pure Victorian faded grandeur with 25 acres of grounds for under a hundred quid. I live nearby but would be happy to stay again for a week as Grange is a quiet place, nice places to eat though, you can walk to Cartmel, famed for L'Enclume, wonderful slow train journeys up the coast to Carlisle stopping at so many interesting places but you can also pop to Manchester, Lancaster and on the fringe of the Lakes.

ufucoffee · 19/01/2022 20:24

London. So much to see and do.
