Want to get away, alone. I have 5 days AL going spare. Has to be in the UK, as a lone female I need to feel safe.

Any ideas ?

What would be your perfect week away? What sort of things would you do ?

Are people missing the fact that the OP already lives in London? 😀

I’d def recommend Newcastle, as PP have said, it’s a compact city, with amazing history, culture, shopping, great restaurants, and only 25 min to the best beaches at Tynemouth.
If going there, I’d advise going to Peace & Loaf in Jesmond for lunch or dinner.

tigerbear · 19/01/2022 20:34

Or Durham.
The best spa hotel near there - Seaham Hall.

Moonshine5 · 19/01/2022 20:42

@ufucoffee

London. So much to see and do.
This ^
Crikeyalmighty · 19/01/2022 20:45

I would do 3 days in Bath followed by 2 on Dorset coast— easy to combine the 2

EsmeSusanOgg · 19/01/2022 20:47

Edinburgh is great for a trip length like that.

FAQs · 19/01/2022 20:52

Inverness is a bit dull as a city, you could hire a car though and explore, I think the sleeper goes via Glasgow or it used to so that might be an option?

colouringindoors · 19/01/2022 20:52

Lakes
Orkney
Skye
Alnwick
Scillies/Cornwall if not winter

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 19/01/2022 20:54

North Yorkshire Moors. Or South Devon.

GrannyGoggles · 19/01/2022 20:57

Lyme Regis, great base. Train to Axminster then use excellent bus services. Lovely walks. Lots of places to visit from Lyme: Bridport, Burton Bradstock (lunch at the beach), along to Abbotsbury.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 19/01/2022 21:19

The OP has already said:

Been to Edinburgh a number of times.
Will be going to Scotland in the summer.
Live in London
Been to Bristol
Love Brighton

So she doesn’t need recommendations for those places …

Hmm
AdoptedBumpkin · 19/01/2022 21:28

I'm based in the Peak District, so I'd probably want a city break (not London - I'm from there) or maybe a half-nice seaside town, maybe Scarborough or Llandudno.

buckeejit · 19/01/2022 21:42

Come to Norn Iron. You can fit so much in in that time 😁

mdh2020 · 19/01/2022 22:07

Liverpool - there are several museums and galleries - good shopping and theatre. Last time I went away on my own I went to Lyme Regis. At the moment I think I’d like to go to a spa for a few days and switch my phone off.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 19/01/2022 22:42

I'd book one of the Redcliffe apartments, right by the sea on Caswell Bay on the Gower.

Abracadabra12345 · 19/01/2022 23:06

@TurtleBackUp

Some great ideas here. I'm going to have a look at Bath and maybe do a couple of days there and then move on somewhere else for a couple of days.

I like pool and sauna!

@ItsRainingTacos I live in London Grin

If you go to Bath, you can also catch a bus to the historic town of Bradford on Avon, or the gorgeous Avoncliff. (Train stops directly outside the pub!). Bath is lovely
Abracadabra12345 · 19/01/2022 23:08

Train to Avoncliff - not sure if buses go there. Lovely walks along the river to Avoncliff but it’s dependent on the time of year and weather of course

Durham is amazing! And the beautiful County is easy to get around via public transport
skippy67 · 19/01/2022 23:31

London. I'm looking to do a mini break on my own soon, and have been researching London hotels.

iamnlhfss · 19/01/2022 23:39

York - if you've never been there and you like window-shopping in quaint little lanes that's the ideal place.
Durham is similar.
Northumberland coast - Bamburgh or Seahouses
Or base yourself in Newcastle and do daytrips to some of these places

MaryStuart · 19/01/2022 23:48

Totnes in Devon.
Direct train from London.
Lovely, quirky little town to mooch around, with great shops. Lots of nice pubs too, along the gorgeous River Dart. Which you can then use to get the boat to Dartmouth for trips to the seaside for sea air, and more mooching around another great place. Historical too. Naval college etc. More lovely old pubs.
Beautiful scenery nearby too. I think you can actually walk from Totnes to Dartmouth, if you’re that way inclined. Along the river.

HemanOrSheRa · 19/01/2022 23:53

I'd bundle the dogs and myself in the car and go to Mawgan Porth in Cornwall. I'd take lots of the food I like to eat. I'd take the dogs for walks on the beach and along the headlands, go to the pub for a pint then back to snuggle up with the dogs on the sofa, potter around, cook and eat. I'd book doggy day care and book myself an afternoon at The Scarlet Hotel. I'd read and sleeeeeeeeep. I'd go to Carnewas tea room at Bedruthran Steps, take in the view and have a cream tea. Go to The Lost Gardens of Heligan, maybe pop into Padstow for a wander and lunch somewhere like Prawn On The Lawn.
