Want to get away, alone. I have 5 days AL going spare. Has to be in the UK, as a lone female I need to feel safe.

Any ideas ?

What would be your perfect week away? What sort of things would you do ?

Small city with a good spa hotel, bliss

dafey · 18/01/2022 20:35

Bath?

LadyOfMisrule · 18/01/2022 20:36

York. Bath. Any hotel with a pool and sauna.

traintraveller · 18/01/2022 20:36

Inverness, York or Liverpool

BurntO · 18/01/2022 20:37

The lakes. Id pick a place that’s smallish with a pub and some shops. I’d open up my walking app, chose some trails. Ensure I have plenty of reading material and some wine. Maybe a jigsaw or two. Smile

GingerFigs · 18/01/2022 20:41

@BurntO which walking app do you use?

ItsRainingTacos · 18/01/2022 20:41

London is perfect and there is so much to do and see.

Bath and other similar cities are nice but 5 days would be too long.

BurntO · 18/01/2022 20:46

@GingerFigs all trails Smile

TurtleBackUp · 18/01/2022 20:53

Some great ideas here. I'm going to have a look at Bath and maybe do a couple of days there and then move on somewhere else for a couple of days.

I like pool and sauna!

@ItsRainingTacos I live in London Grin

Oxford, I think. The Ashmolean needs two days, I love a walking tour, Jericho is a lovely area to explore, bus to Woodstock for a day at Blenheim, nice cinema, indoor market, good food. Yes please.

Lovemusic33 · 18/01/2022 20:58

Chester
York
Oxford
A hiking trip to Wales? Snowdon?
Plymouth

I love Bath (not far from me), it has everything there, great places to eat, history, shopping, spa and walking.

Motherhippo · 18/01/2022 21:00

Cornwall!

JustJam4Tea · 18/01/2022 21:01

I’d go to the Lake District. Stay I. Keswick and walk. I’d have a car so I could get round.

Fuckitydoodah · 18/01/2022 21:02

If you're going to Bath, then I'd suggest a couple of days in Bristol too. I love Bristol. Such a vibrant city. I could happily spend a day wandering around the harbourside and Clifton areas. Do you like cycling? There's a cycle path between Bath and Bristol and the tunnels ride the other side of Bath is good.

PurpleFlower1983 · 18/01/2022 21:04

Definitely London - so much to do!

Redtartanshoes · 18/01/2022 21:05

I’d say York/Harrogate/Whitby fit your bill perfectly

JaceLancs · 18/01/2022 21:05

I regularly go to Lincoln on my own - lots to do in area - not far from coast - I love antiques so always spend a day in Horncastle and 1-2 days at Hemswell cliff

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/01/2022 21:07

I think I’d potter round the West Country, good stretches of country but also nice towns - Dorset coast, Bath, Glastonbury, exmoor… lots of diversity.

Are you only staying in the UK to be safe though?? If you’d prefer to get slightly better weather then Greece and Italy are well trod, or if you are happy W walking and beaches then the canaries.

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/01/2022 21:09

I'd either go to London or Edinburgh. With either of these I'd be comfortable being on my own and there would be loads to do.

Edinburgh would probably be my top choice because I haven't been for a while.

TheHateIsNotGood · 18/01/2022 21:10

5-7 days in one place, in the UK? I'd look at the 'getting there' as part of the holiday and head off to Shetland/Orkney/Western Isles - none of which you can get to very quickly. Mix the air travel and sea travel possibilities.

As a lone woman I'd feel completely safe doing that. But then as a lone woman of many years experience can't think that has ever been a criteria of any decisions I've ever made.

Do people actually think that nowadays? I'm 59 and have never thought that being female was a consideration when I decided where I should holiday in the UK?

Tal45 · 18/01/2022 21:12

Snowdonia or the very end of Cornwall, the two most beautiful places I've been to.

Bigoldhag · 18/01/2022 21:14

York is lovely. I travel there for work alone a lot and never felt unsafe or uncomfortable - also feels fine going for food alone etc.

TrobadoraBeatrice · 18/01/2022 21:15

Ooh, a week away all by myself would be luxury.

For a city break I'd go to Glasgow or possibly Newcastle.

My preference would be somewhere on the coast though, not necessarily a city, to walk and beachcomb and sit in cosy pubs and cafés. Pretty much anywhere between Bridlington and North Berwick on the east coast, or the west coast of Scotland, or maybe even the Scilly Isles (possibly not feasible for a shorter trip though).

Bigoldhag · 18/01/2022 21:16

@TheHateIsNotGood then you’re lucky. Every woman I know would consider this when being alone at night.

PermanentTemporary · 18/01/2022 21:20

Cardiff. I've never spent any time there and love Wales. If I ran out of things to do id head off to the Gower for the last couple of days.
