I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

Possibly a stupid question but what do you do with it while you're in the supermarket, if using a (supermarket) trolley for the shopping? Very tempted by those Rad Union ones!

Snoken · 13/01/2022 15:25

Also always had one when we lived in Paris. Most people didn't drive to the supermarket or market as there wasn't many places to park, so we all had one. Brilliant things.

Some trollies have a hook under the handlebar, I always used to hang it there.
NellieWellietheEllie · 13/01/2022 15:27

Wheeled suitcases didn't take off for ages because men saw it as less 'manly' than carrying a case. Same with shopping trollies - they are practical and healthier but have an image problem. However, it's becoming easier to find funkier and cool ones & they are being used increasingly by the environmentally conscious. I love mine. Be a trend setter and get one!

MaggieFS · 13/01/2022 15:27

Do it and own it. Head high, walk proud. I'm not looking forward to when DD is too big for her pram because it's so great to lob shopping in the bottom!

30 years ago no one would be seen dead with a small wheelie suitcase unless you were airline crew. Tell me why I spent so long struggling with such unfriendly baggage. Daft.

I have one, they are great. I’m 27 and I’ve had it since I finished university!

Hang it on the little hook by the handle bar. The main difficulty is navigating those basket trolleys they have at Lidl, then you have to push one and pull the other.
WouldBeGood · 13/01/2022 15:30

They’re great! Always use one on holiday for walks to the local shop, And DD20 has one as she doesn’t drive, so makes shopping so much easier.

YANBU 😃

The supermarket I use has lots of houses and flats around it you see all ages with shopping trolleys, I don't think you get any extra points hurting yourself carrying shopping home. Fwiw I saw some quite cheap I'm Home bargains recently

Cakecakecheese · 13/01/2022 15:32

I saw a woman of about 20 with a trolley the other day and the other week I was beind a mid twenties goth couple in the supermarket who put their shopping in one. I keep meaning to look for one online.

WrongWayApricot · 13/01/2022 15:33

I've had one since I was 18ish. But I'm super lazy, any convenience I can have I will take. I don't understand why people want to mug their selves off carrying the shopping by hand. We put things on wheels all the time, but women doing the family shop need to do it the hard way? To look young or cool? No thanks.

weegiemum · 13/01/2022 15:36

My achingly cool and woke dd1 who is at Art School had a spotty one. She uses it to get her shopping and to get her art supplies around.

Lolalasagna · 13/01/2022 15:36

If you fancy splashing out OP, have a look at these - very far from granny!

No lie, just seen Noel Gallaghers daughter on TikTok saying she’s got one as she doesn’t drive and doesn’t care. About 20 years old- send the video to my uni dd who said it would be useful. Go for it

MaggieFS · 13/01/2022 15:39

Jeepers. The price of those Rad Union ones. And they don't even look that big! Shock

ANewNorma · 13/01/2022 15:39

I saw the rad-union.com/ trolley on Instagram today (small world?!) they had a 15% off RADJAN15
It also has clips to hang on your shopping trolley in the supermarket

TheDeckchairGardener · 13/01/2022 15:39

I have one and I’m only in my late 30s. Comfort over vanity every time. I’ve never noticed anyone staring or laughing. I use it to transport shopping from where I work back to the car - which is usually a 10 - 20 minute walk away.

Mine hooks on the front of the trolley.
godmum56 · 13/01/2022 15:43

google pimp my shopping trolley :)

Pythone · 13/01/2022 15:43

Of course, the hook! Never really thought about what it was for. Thanks!

DH's trolley is a classy German number which folds in half so it easily hangs from a trolley hook. Mine doesn't do that, I just hoik it into a shallow supermarket trolley where it lies on its back and has the shopping piled on top of it.
Nothavingfunrightnow · 13/01/2022 15:44

Fab idea! I think I'll get one, too. Definitely not just for oldies.

SealHouse · 13/01/2022 15:45

I got a nice "non-granny" one in Habitat about 15 years ago - it was a two-wheeled thing that folded into a little square with a handle for easy storage/carrying to supermarket. At the time it was rare to see anyone using these and I was initially mortified at the checkout using it, people definitely stared at the whole palaver of me unlocking the wheels and unfolding it out - but I was living in a fourth floor apartment at the time and the lift was constantly out of order so it was a life-saver. I see them all the time now and in much funkier colours etc. Mine is plain grey and cream which was ok, I don't think I'd have the confidence to carry off one of those tartan four-wheeled jobs Grin

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 13/01/2022 15:46

I had never considered one until reading this thread, but now I want one! I’m a long way off pension age. 😄
