Aibu to be too embarrassed to get a shopping trolley.

I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

You could get one like this

PullingAtTeeth · 13/01/2022 16:52

Go for it! I live in quite a student heavy area and have noticed lots of students have them for shopping. There’s some nice ones about. I’m 30 and when I no longer have a child in a pram (to use as a shopping trolley!) I shall get one

user1471538283 · 13/01/2022 16:59

Do get one! Lots of young people have them. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks.

IVbumble · 13/01/2022 17:03

I'd struggle to reach the shopping at the bottom of a traditional trolley so I use a pushchair with a raincover instead.

Yuckypretty · 13/01/2022 17:06

What about a back pack for smaller shops and ordering online for bigger shops.

RaoulDufysCat · 13/01/2022 17:10

I have a Rolser and absolutely love it. It is really sturdy and I can get a full week's shopping for two adults and a teenager in it.

withiceplease · 13/01/2022 17:10

Now on DD19 Xmas list!

They’re gorgeous! Granny they definitely are not

RickRude · 13/01/2022 17:15

Everyone has them where I live - busy commuter town in SE. I see loads of (mostly women) in their 20s and 30s using them. Very trendy here

LakieLady · 13/01/2022 17:28

I'd like a proper old-fashioned wicker one, like a real granny. It would have to have a plastic cover, to keep the rain out, too.

I'm not sure I'd be able to lift it on and off the bus though, when it's full of wine shopping.

Momicrone · 13/01/2022 17:31

Noooo, don't do it, carry stuff, it's free exercise, stay fit

godmum56 · 13/01/2022 17:31

@BarkminsterBlue

I have literally just seen a TikTok of Anaïs Gallagher (21-year-old daughter of Noel) showing off her new trolley. I think they are becoming hipster cool in the way that bumbags came back a few years ago.
Noel Gallagher has a 21yo daughter???????? Now I do feel ancient

Not very helpful to someone with a medical condition that has already injured themselves by carrying heavy bags, but ok...
orio · 13/01/2022 17:43

@RedCandyApple

I wouldn’t use one, I’m sorry but I would be too embarrassed too, I know I shouldn’t be but round near me they are definitely only used by elderly people, my mum is 60 and even she said she wouldn’t have one, she uses suitcase maybe try that instead?
You're ridiculous, imagine being embarrassed by something so innocuous.
RedCandyApple · 13/01/2022 17:46

You're ridiculous, imagine being embarrassed by something so innocuous.

And yet the op says herself she’s embarrassed to use one so not sure why you commented on my post but ok? Literally no one around where I live uses them apart from very elderly people, my friends would laugh their heads off if they seen me with one!

Momicrone · 13/01/2022 17:48

Derbee, sorry I should have added, on her back

RedCandyApple · 13/01/2022 17:49

I live in an area where no one other than very elderly people use them. I’ve never seen anyone with one that wasn’t elderly, perhaps I would feel differently if I did but nope, I would use a suit case.

Snowiscold · 13/01/2022 17:54

They’re quite trendy now, and have been for a while. Useful, practical and sensible. What’s not to like? You look a bit of an idiot carrying lots of heavy bags back from the supermarket when there’s a good alternative. A bit like if you see anyone carrying heavy suitcases at the airport - very old-fashioned and a bit stupid.

PattyPan · 13/01/2022 17:54

I mostly see South Asian people around here using trolleys. I don’t see other people like me (white 27 yo) using one. I use mine anyway. Why wouldn’t I? It’s the most convenient way to transport my shopping and if people judge me for that they are weird!

BiteyShark · 13/01/2022 17:55

I have one and don't care what anyone thinks of it. It's practical and means I can walk to the shop and back without breaking my back.

Ohdofuckofdear · 13/01/2022 18:04

I'm friends with a few ladies that use them and they've been using them since they're early 30's,no health problems, but like you they don't drive and they've said they've been life savers for them.

Our DD14 has hypermobility and I know how much pain her's causes her,use the trolley OP, I'm sure you have to cope with to much pain as it is bless you without having to put up with even more pain!

Giggorata · 13/01/2022 19:00

For those of you thinking about buying one, one of the charity shops are selling new ones, in various patterns.
I'm afraid I can't remember which one.
But you could save your joints and muscles AND contribute to charity.
🙂

Crowdfundingforcake · 13/01/2022 19:16

Lakielady a friend's DMum in Australia had a beautiful wicker shopping trolley back in the eighties. It was much admired. The family moved to Indonesia and DFriends mum looked into having wicker trolleys made there and exported to Oz - she was going to sell them at posh farmer's markets and the like. Didn't go ahead in the end but I reckon she'd have made a killing....

Mrsjayy · 13/01/2022 19:57

Lakielady that's quite niche I think you should definitely scour the charity shops for 1 of those Smile

Wrenna · 13/01/2022 19:59
