AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?

Today it has been revealed that in May 2020 invitations were emailed to (allegedly) 100 Downing Street staff, for a garden party. This party happened during the first lockdown, when many people could not visit their elderly relatives, even on their death beds, due to the lockdown rules. The email was sent by one of the PM's top people, and stated that people should "bring their own booze and enjoy the sunshine". Today Boris has been conspicuous by his absence.

I think this is the final straw and shows a lack of judgement and absence of moral fibre. Enough is enough - he should resign and if he doesn't do it then his own party should force him to go.

AIBU?

I'm not sure politics has ever been about the brightest and the best.

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 12/01/2022 11:20

Life long Tory here and he should go, I am beyond frustrated with my party,I feel disgusted and ashamed of the behaviour, Boris however will feel none of this shame he doesn;t have the capacity, He believes he is teflon because all around him tell him so and he believes and knows with no credible opposition the country would have no appitite for anything at present other than freedom from the pamdemic,, My head is in my hands as will so many people doing the same, Boris will see it all as a minor inconvinience, If he gets a better offer I believe he may resign but its highly unlikely he will give up his position, A call of no confidence wouldnt work either ...such an unsavoury mess,

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/01/2022 11:47

Are the suggested replacements really the brightest and best that this nation has to offer?

No they're not, but the trouble is that many of those brighest and best wouldn't go anywhere near politics if their lives depended on it

Unfortunately the way it works means that the wish to enter is almost a definition of someone being unsuitable for the role. Granted there are a few with decent motives who genuinely want to "make a difference", but even they're expected to sell their souls the instant they get elected

Nothing wrong with anyone attending a public school

Angela Rayner thinks there is - she used 'Etonian' in her tirade of abuse last September;
www.spectator.co.uk/article/is-anti-etonian-prejudice-really-ok-

Tony Blair attended an expensive public school didn't he? And his father was a barrister?

when you are a billionaire, then its obviously very difficult to relate to ordinary peoples daily struggles

Is that why Keir Starmer doesn't know what a woman is - because he isn't a woman himself? Or why the Labour Party have difficulty attracting support from successful entrepreneurs because they are not successful business owners themselves? I do remember Labour's last manifesto - "few giveaways for working families" (IFS) - but equal access to benefits for non-UK citizens (and full voting rights in UK general elections for non-UK citizens resident in the UK) - plus cheap rail travel for South East commuters. Clearly a vote winner for ordinary UK citizens living outside the South East.

no one seems to have any love for Angela Rayner

That's because she can't resist calling other MPs "scum" - on more than one occasion:

October 2020
Tory MPs have suffered “widespread abuse” after Labour’s deputy leader, Angela Rayner, referred to one as “scum” in a heated parliamentary debate, the party’s co-chairman has said.

More than 100 Tory MPs have signed an open letter promoted by Amanda Milling MP urging the Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, to take action against all party members who perpetrate “unacceptable abuse online and offline”.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/oct/24/tory-mps-suffered-abuse-following-scum-incident-party-chair-says

September 2021
Angela Rayner stands by labelling of Tories as ‘scum’ -

Roussette · 12/01/2022 11:59

Yeah... let's knock Angela Rayner and Keir Starmer when there's indefensible behaviour by Boris et al.
Makes sense Hmm

Anyway... PMQ about to start. It's on BBC2.

I'm pissed off with every tory MP hiding behind the Sue Gray investigation. But I suppose they have no defence, and nothing else to say with Boris being so much of a liar

Peregrina · 12/01/2022 12:00

Why not start a "Why I don't like Angela Raynor" thread Clavinova. Failing that I think it's time for you to go out for the afternoon.

Personally, I quite like her exchanges - Johnson hasn't got a clue what to do with a gobby working class woman.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:01

Apologising.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:03

He's admitting he was there. He's calling it a 'work event'.

Pathetic.

Alexandra2001 · 12/01/2022 12:03

@Clavinova - i will engage....

what part of "there is nothing wrong with attending a public school" did you fail to grasp?

Tories want to change the GRA to give more rights to trans....

Raynor is entitled to her opinion but it doesn't detract from she has dragged herself up by her boots...

But fundamentally, she nor Starmer are the sort of people who would hold a party, moments after telling everyone the rules ban such events nor would they then go out and clap for carers... despicable behavior and on this occasion, even Angela's description is too tame... oh my god he really is a pants on fire liar... PMQs.

AliveAndSleeping · 12/01/2022 12:07

Yabu.

He should have resigned when the first scandal hit or at least the fifth or the sixth...or the seventh or eight. What are we on now? I've stopped counting.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:07

^^This. Worth repeating

Boris, Boris Boris... "I thought it was a work event".

Won't wash.

"bring your own booze" added onto the invite rather makes that look a ridiculous assertion

Peregrina · 12/01/2022 12:08

So that is why the decisions made by the Government have been so disastrous - they were all half-cut at work.

He regrets being caught.

IGotHam · 12/01/2022 12:08

Yes he should resign. He is beyond contempt.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:08

Boris Johnson regrets.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:09

What a sad baggage of a PM.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:09

Lies like a six year old.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:10

Hiding behind the Sue Grey investigation again and again.

Boris is having a really difficult job being contrite.

He really cannot do it.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:11

He says some words then backtracks.

Alexandra2001 · 12/01/2022 12:11

Peregrina Why not start a "Why I don't like Angela Raynor" thread Clavinova

Who is Angela Raynor?

Well you clearly don't know a thing about her Angela Rayner

You claimed early "you didn't have the facts" well now you do, so was it a work event with a bring your own booze.. invite and what about all the earlier denials of parties?

Clavinova · 12/01/2022 12:12

So that is why the decisions made by the Government have been so disastrous - they were all half-cut at work.

Does Keir Starmer need a beer with every meal?

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:12

A man without Shame. I'd agree with that.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:13

The prime minister letting down the electorate at every turn.

Notonthestairs · 12/01/2022 12:13

Nobody is buying his flimsy excuses.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:13

That last one is my paraphrasing.
