AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?

Today it has been revealed that in May 2020 invitations were emailed to (allegedly) 100 Downing Street staff, for a garden party. This party happened during the first lockdown, when many people could not visit their elderly relatives, even on their death beds, due to the lockdown rules. The email was sent by one of the PM's top people, and stated that people should "bring their own booze and enjoy the sunshine". Today Boris has been conspicuous by his absence.

I think this is the final straw and shows a lack of judgement and absence of moral fibre. Enough is enough - he should resign and if he doesn't do it then his own party should force him to go.

AIBU?

Back to economy.
Just not getting the issue of leadership.

Porcupineintherough · 12/01/2022 12:15

I think he should be tarred, feathered and dragged through the streets of London on a hurdle. But I'd reluctantly settle for his resignation.

SafeMove · 12/01/2022 12:15

People knew they were voting for a party like this in December 2019. If asked about predicting this exact scenario, many people would say 'Yes, we could see this happening tbh'. Nobody with any grip on politics ever held them up as the party that would keep their noses clean, put 'us' first or expected their ministers or MP's to have robust, thorough and unshakeable morals. They were more than okay with the history of offensive remarks and superiority on offer.

To be fair to the Tories, they did not sell themselves as principled, in fact there was an absolute mocking and resounding rejection of the 'no man left behind, principled but naive SJW' offer in the live debates. It was labelled 'snowflakey' and utopian nonsense and 'economic suicide'.

People didn't want representation where all rules applied to all people in an equal or fair way. People primarily wanted Brexit and to protect their homes, families and lifestyle. I can't judge if that was right or wrong, it is a very personal, subjective choice who you vote for and would I change my vote depending on what skin I have in the game? Probably, so I wouldn't judge someone on that. But I am nonplussed why people are shocked by known selfish, self serving people acting in a selfish, self serving way.

A truly Hollow man.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/01/2022 12:16

What about all the earlier denials of parties?

No doubt he'll claim he "didn't know it was going to be a party", then just hide behind the fake "investigation" in the hope it'll go away

Nobody will believe him, but then who does anyway?

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:16

I was musing on the stocks. Less rough than tarring and feathering.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:16

Clavinova I am not sure one beer equates to twelve parties. Yes, twelve

Nice try though!

YANBU to think Boris Johnson should resign.

YABU that you just only now you think he should resign.
If a "party" is what it takes for him to go, i"ll take it

readwhatiactuallysay · 12/01/2022 12:17

Oh and you are absolutely deluded if you think he will IMO.
The man has never done the morally right thing in his life

Alexandra2001 · 12/01/2022 12:17

@Clavinova i thought better of you, somethings are indefensible, this is one of them, you are doing yourself no credit at all.

no one is perfect nor is any political party.

Isaw3ships · 12/01/2022 12:19

Anyone listening to that joke of an ‘apology’?
F off Boris, you’re a selfish, entitled liar who clearly doesn’t give a damn about anyone else,
Certainly not us plebs.
When I think back to that May, the rules we were following, the sacrifices we were making. What a shit.

This is absolutely right

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:20

Terrible apology.
But surprising.

Have you got Saturday’s lottery numbers?

“ He says Downing Street is a big complex. When he went into the garden on 20 May, he thought it was a work event.”

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:20

NOT surprising!

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:21

Vaccines, vaccines, boosters, boosters, levelling up, yada yada.

To see the relief in his body language when he manages to steer the conversation away from the parties is palpable. But opposition parties are not letting it go.

Good.

He can't defend the indefensible.

All he is saying now is 'wait for the enquiry results'

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:23

Every party calling for his resignation

Clavinova · 12/01/2022 12:23

Clavinova I am not sure one beer equates to twelve parties. Yes, twelve

I'm pretty sure Boris Johnson hasn't been accused of attending twelve parties.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:23

"Go!" Came the cry from Scotland.😂

CaptainMal · 12/01/2022 12:23

Both Boris and his Cabinet are corrupt and craven.

His unhappy backbenchers have only themselves to blame: they knew they were choosing a sexually incontinent man-child who is incapable of taking responsibility either in his personal or professional life at the time.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:24

I'm embarrassed for the conservative MPs blethering on.

PartyOnKale · 12/01/2022 12:24

Avoiding the elephant in the room.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:24

Whether Johnson has been to 12 parties or not, he allowed a culture of his advisers, his civil servants, his party members to hold parties. The buck stops at him.
End of.

Zombiemum1946 · 12/01/2022 12:25

I'm in the nhs, i followed the rules,. My whole family including me are at home with covid because someone else didn't. We're a dept with a small staff. Clinics have shut because myself and one other (not covid) are off sick. Yes he should go.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 12:25

PartyOnKale

I agree. It's very embarrassing. Divert. Divert. Divert
