Quite cross

GrannyGoggles · 08/01/2022 15:03

I would like to buy something quite extravagant which I don’t need. I can afford it. Our adult children will enjoy it too. We have room to store it.

I have asked my husband to look at choosing the specification, as a) he’s competent at such things and b) historically if I’ve made such a purchase without consulting it’s resulted in a massive sulk.

His verdict is that we don’t need it, it’s expensive and extravagant.

Unlike the ride on lawnmower that’s awaiting delivery? His most recent 4 wheel drive? The machine that’s on order for ‘our’ (his) business that IMO is entirely unnecessary?

I’m quite cross

Quite cross sounds like 1950s Enid Blyton.

NotMyDayJob · 08/01/2022 15:06

I would let him sulk

Isgooglebroken · 08/01/2022 15:07

Just buy the one you want and let him sulk.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 08/01/2022 15:08

@daimbarsatemydogsbone

Quite cross sounds like 1950s Enid Blyton.
I thought the same, I only clicked on the thread because the title made me smile

And a 1950s husband to go with it

3luckystars · 08/01/2022 15:09

If you split up it will cost him a lot more. We could probably help.

Is it a huge inflatable tent?

elelel · 08/01/2022 15:09

Why are you cross? Just buy what you want and ditch the pathetic man.

nannybeach · 08/01/2022 15:09

What is it???

AlexaShutUp · 08/01/2022 15:10

I would just tell him that I was going to buy it anyway, I think.

NutCheeseBag · 08/01/2022 15:11

But you already knew you didn’t need it and it is expensive per your op. That was never at issue. Since he hasn’t added any valid problems with the order I’d say, crack on!

5foot5 · 08/01/2022 15:12

I am very heartened to see a mumsnetter describe themselves as "quite cross" rather than "absolutely raging".

I am slightly dismayed if you let your husband dismiss this purchase just because he is not Interested. If you are not completely confident of getting the spec. right yourself then can you consult with your adult children.

And BTW have you pointed out the comparison between your intended extravagance and his?

KiloWhat · 08/01/2022 15:12

You already knew you didn't need it though.

Do you need his permission?

WorriedGiraffe · 08/01/2022 15:13

YANBU to be annoyed with him, but YABU to be ‘quite cross’ about it, like you now can’t go ahead. Just order it if you can afford it.

Hemingwayscatz · 08/01/2022 15:13

Just buy it. You can afford it so you shouldn’t need permission.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 08/01/2022 15:14

Quite cross? I would be incandescent with rage 🤣

Just buy it, in fact, buy two.

abbey44 · 08/01/2022 15:14

Hmmm, if I were in your shoes at the moment, I think I'd be thinking a new patio might be nice...

KateMcAllister · 08/01/2022 15:14

He sounds awful. Previous purchases have resulted in him sulking? What adult does that? And he tries to tell you you can’t spend money. Controlling twat.

MalbecandToast · 08/01/2022 15:17

Oh sod what he thinks and just buy it. What a dick Sad

Justleaveitblankthen · 08/01/2022 15:17

What is it? It won't be any more outing to tell us than the info you included already and I'm a nosy buggerSmile

PeonyAndSweetpea · 08/01/2022 15:18

Bloody hell, woman up and buy whatever it is.

Yes, it's a nice thing to discuss large purchases with a partner, but as he doesn't appear to extend that courtesy to you, fuck him, go spend some money.

If the man child sulks, leave him too it. Don't give him the airspace.

NerrSnerr · 08/01/2022 15:20

Did he ask permission to buy the lawnmower? If not, why do you need permission to buy this item.

I really want to know what it is now!

Totalwasteofpaper · 08/01/2022 15:20

Yanbu
I would also be quite cross.

Do the research and purchase yourself.
Make sure you get a good one.

BellaChagall · 08/01/2022 15:21

Is it a Peleton bike? Or a Velvetiser? Or a hot tub?

whosaidtha · 08/01/2022 15:22

Is it expensive like £100 for a tea towel or expensive like £1,000,000 for an indoor swimming pool?

IncompleteSenten · 08/01/2022 15:24

What is it?
Loads of people on here would be able to advise you.

Then get one.

Mundra · 08/01/2022 15:24

Well, is it a dog? A peloton? A VR system? A robot vacuum?
We neeeed to know!
